Talk about pathetic.  The things Canadians do to grovel to their media elites.  Sad.

If Ron were half a man he would have told Sportsnet to go and F-off. Live. Now THAT would be a final closer for HNIC we all could love.

Canadian mining companies ride the wave of US imperialism into many countries, destroying lives and livelihoods and environments.

It's shocking how little this gets covered, even by the so-called left wing CBC.

We love taking the high road when it comes to things like poppies though.

The most disgusting was him trying to grovel to Bobby Orr.   Just go away, Ron, nobody ever wants to see your gutless face again.

Yes, yes, the white man's burden. It's not good enough that we impose environmental and legal requirements on companies that operate in Canada. We have to do the same to the ones which operate in other countries. Well, not all other countries, just the ones being run by 'brown' people. I mean, let's face it, those people aren't smart enough or educated enough or, well, they're not white, after all, so it's not like they can be trusted to run their own countries.

That's the general Left wing theme about this subject. We have to police companies that operate in non-white countries because those countries aren't capable of doing so. They'll be taken advantage of by those clever white capitalists, be given shiny beads for their valuable resources. We have to take care of them!

They did their duty, NATO Article V under the Washington Treaty.

As an American, I salute them.

I respect that soldiers do their duty and protect each other.

I do not respect sociopath billionaires who use soldiers for their own private profit.

We are all responsible to speak up to change that.

I don't care what you respect or do not, I only crave the respect of my peers, I have no respect for the likes of you.

I know my good old hockey brothers out here, these men who are authentic country boys, farmers and tradesmen who've lived here all their life, Canada's true sons, even though their name has been removed from our very Anthem... they forgive Ron Maclean. Not because he deserves it, but because it is in their upbringing to forgive. They are what makes Canada great.

There's nothing to forgive,  it was no crime, it's not about whether I forgive him, I have simply lost all respect for him.

Don't forget that they tried to get rid of Ron, and Don was the one who went to bat for him.

Ron has also sided with the Cancel Culture, so I can't respect that.

In the end, I'm a nobody, if I was him, I would be shattered, to be disavowed by Robert Orr.   When Robert Orr calls you a disgrace : that would cut me to the quick.

Forgive doesn't mean forget, like, respect or want to pass to. I would lay him out on the boards. Catch him with his head down, total gong-show hit, skates right off the ice. Someone go get the big plywood board.

I don't want any payback, I just turn away in disgust.

The Cancel Culture will get him too in the end, it's just a matter of time.

I guess it’s just my big city upbringing that makes me want to do that. Even as a kid I was like that. I longed to thrash out, to tear down, to destroy and annihilate; to ravage, wreak havoc, and plunder.

Cancel culture is going to turn upon itself.

I was raised in the big city too, but I was more of a lover than a fighter, I wasn't an enforcer,  I wanted to score.

Cancel Culture rules Canada, Canada is a small c communist totalitarian country already.

I'd ask you to say thanks to your father for me that I'm not speaking in German right now, among many other things.

Even though he considered WWII (the European theater at least) to be the only just war, he did read enough history to come to the conclusion that the allies of the first world war set the table for a Hitler or some sort of fascist movement to rise in Germany, when they invoked the ruinous Treaty of Versailles and convince a lot of Germans that they were right the first time, and just needed to make sure they destroyed all their enemies in the next war.

He agreed with Roosevelt's Marshall Plan after WWII....rebuilding Europe was the right choice, but was not happy about the Cold War and the nuclear buildup that followed. He died prior to 9-11, and would have been dismayed by the proliferation of wars today, with so many that appear to be just excuses to make and sell high tech weapons, and get very little analysis, let alone criticism in mainstream media today.

You think it might instead have become a paradise like Yemen or Sudan or Somalia?

You just mentioned three countries subjected to aggressive war and/or drone bombing from the CIA and DOD.

I don't know if Trump is outdoing Obama's totals yet, but when Mr. Nobel Peace Prize was in charge, he was averaging dropping 26,000 bombs per year in a number of countries...including those three! What would Canada look like today if we were subjected to constant drone bombing attacks over our cities?

1. That's horseshit.  We are expressing more opinions than ever and discussing more than ever.  Even this meme, which is essentially a FOX News talking point, is free speech

2. I disagree.  But it's off-topic.  Suffice it to say that this person was featured on the radio 'this week, in Islam'.

What happened at the open-mic comedy club? Did reality come and slap you up side o' your head?

Do I believe cancel culture exists?  Sure.  Demanding that something gets cancelled is free speech.  At a certain point, though, it dies out. Not soon though.

Did I contradict myself?  Maybe I did, tell me how.

I'm curious. Is there a single non-white country in the world that you can hold responsible for its own fate rather than looking for some white people to blame?

The Saudis and the Iranians fight it out in Yemen. White people are to blame. Somali warlords tear the country apart. White people's fault. Sudan is taken over by Islamists. It's all those white people's fault!

Somalia, Yemen and Sudan became shitholes all on their own. The US had nothing to do with it.

It seems like you are saying suppressing free speech is free speech. If you cannot see the contradiction in that then
excuse me, but I cannot help you.

Well, you have the right to stop me tattooing my message on your forehead.  I think that's what it means when something is cancelled.  That doesn't mean it isn't stupid or hypocritical.  It might well be.  I think it was both, and mean and cowardly to boot, for Sportsnet to fire Cherry, but they were only exercising their rights.

Of course, that all goes by the board if any force or coercion is used.
