They are BOTH doing it. There used to be Republicans who were pro choice. No more. Moderates have steadily been eliminated in both parties.

Republicans and Democrats in a foreign country have nothing to do with Canadian politics today....which looks like this:

That's partly the end result of having an accusatory, divisive, leftist PM, but it's also an offshoot of the angry, hostile, racist political situation in the US that was fostered by Obama. We had the BLM here too when Obama was in power.

You guys had a much worse problem with this kind of thing before Trump got in. We just have a smidgeon of it.

If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

Maybe, but American speakers were shut down in Canada as well (e.g. Ann Coulter).   It is too easy to blame the current situation in Canada on what Canadians see happening in the United States by gobbling up so much American media.

Frankly, that is a very weak cop out from taking responsibility for domestic unrest and discord....by Canadians (some of whom crossed the border to protest Trump's inauguration in January 2017).

I'm not making any excuses for Libs B_C. They're just dumb enough to copy something that they saw on American TV that was wrong.

I won't go so far as to say that it's a complete misrepresentation of Canadian culture because we have a lot of whacko activists here, but we are a country mile from experiencing anything like what the US experienced from 2014-2106.

Canadian political culture has voluntarily adopted and incorporated American elements from U.S. social media platforms to tactics, televised debates, and opposition research.   This was happening during the Harper government's tenure by his enemies, so it is not new.   Donald Trump pegged the Canadian media's smug-o-meter even while identical methods were being developed by competing interests in Canada.

Canadian media and political wonks created and now use the descriptor "Trumpian" when discussing conservative domestic candidates and policies, as if a foreign leader's antics matter more and have greater impact...because they do ?

When one comes to a Canadian web forum to understand Canadian politics, it is unexpected to see such domination by the very American "circus" many Canadians claim to look down upon.

Not right now they aren't, that happened long before Trump got there, now the Republicans are expanding their coalition and the Democrats are shrinking theirs.

The Republican base has not expanded in years. And the Republicans have so little to offer anyone (except wealthy donors) that that only fear of the identity politics Democrats draws anyone to vote for them.

They're not really social conservatives any more, and they certainly aren't fiscal conservatives, and they don't care much about defense or national security either. Why would anyone vote for them?

The Republican base expanded under Trump. Whether that's mostly on the Democrats for going crazy is irrelevant, that is still what is happening. Stop projecting on the American electorate, just because you wouldn't vote for them doesn't mean they wouldn't.

So apparently someone (a Conservative by inference) is trying to kill the PM. Tonight he held an event wearing a bullet proof vest and with armed camouflaged security in tow.

Not many believe him it would seem.

If there was such a threat, the rally should have been cancelled. But the event went on....brave hero. If it WAS real, I guess he had no problem putting the entire room of people at risk.

The first thing the Liberal Party did is inform the CBC...naturally.

The message seems to be...vote anything but Liberal and the already skyrocketing gun violence (as claimed by the Liberals) will have you ducking for cover like poor JT.

OK....maybe the voters would not desire a minority government that would fall quickly over some issue, forcing another election right away.

Our polls are generally not to be trusted. Like the media, they tend to lean leftward.

Only today has CBC admitted that the Conservatives are in the lead in the 'seat analysis' or whatever BS that is.

My understanding is that five provinces have shifted right at the premier level since 2015, so there is definitely a change in the wind.

The Bloc is surging in Quebec by accounts. The very place the Liberals rely on to win biggly.

Polls at 338 say they're tied in popular vote projections, slight edge to Liberals in seat projections.  NDP and Bloc gains since debates taking away from Liberal lead.

You’re the one who keeps dragging America in.  No doubt the US is a major frame of reference for Canada, as Germany is for Austria.  Nevertheless there are differences that Americans mostly don’t see.  It’s not the obvious stuff either, like French language or northern Inuit or some stereotype about woodsmen or free health care.  It’s more a sensibility.  People think differently about the world up here.  Yes there are similarities south of the border, more Democrat than Republican, but not the same — by choice!  I say that as a lover of the US.  It’s just how it is.  Quebecers feel the same patriotic arrogance towards the Rest of Canada.

No....it is and has been a mainstay on this forum and in Canadian media....the frame of reference cannot shake America, and in fact depends on it.   We've already had the economic and military discussions, so no need to repeat here.    The Canadian identity includes/is defined by not being American.

The left in Canada is every bit as "guilty" of the things it accuses the right of in Canada when it comes to importing American and other foreign rhetoric and tactics.

People may think differently about the world "up there", but a lot of them pay attention to and consume copious amounts of American culture.

Well does California consume much American culture?   How can Canada not be influenced by a single neighbour ten times her size?  That doesn’t mean there isn’t a very distinct way of living and being up here that is Canadian culture, consumed and produced by Canadians. If you lived here you’d see it pretty quick.  It’s pervasive.  If you watched Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays and listened to Canadian bands and hung out in the dives, you’d know it.  Don’t worry, US culture is pervasive too, but the countries are different— by choice.

Canada is not California, although many Canadians live and work there.   I already know it is pervasive, less so in Quebec.

Enjoy Canada for what it is, instead of defining Canada by what it is not.

The left in Canada even imports its anti-"murican" rhetoric from...America.

Well that’s the absurdity of trying to separate Canada out of America because many Americans built Canada.  Same goes for Quebec.  Quebec is Canada.  Loyalist settled Ontario was actually part of Quebec.  Quebec may be the most Canadian part of Canada, whether Quebecers like it or not.  Too bad.  They started it.
