I publish my views to the internet by the terms and conditions in allowance of the moderator, there is no requirement for me to prove my view of things. In terms of those who demand that something be cited from the internet as supposed proof of something, I find that to be a fool's errand. I do not believe for an instant that you argue in good faith, and on forums like this, soon as anything is cited, either the source is attacked as invalid, or the goal post are shifted. Quote

It kind of speaks to your theory that two thirds of the province are shitholes. You can argue about the classification until the sun don't shine. Who cares. What is the point I am saying? Ever ask yourself this? Those are the suburban areas where urbanites moved to. They are the fringes of the tumourous growth. Those who live there are city-slickers only temporarily displaced. Quote

Dougie93 Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 Newfoundland should get back out of Confederation, Confederation has been nothing but misery for Newfoundland. Canada basically strip mined Newfoundland and rendered them into cheap labour to be exploited by the entrenched interests. 12.4% unemployment is the wages of Canadian Confederation, there's no need for Newfoundlanders to be poor for the purposes of Toronto bribing Quebec with stolen money. Made no sense for Newfoundland to subjugate itself to Ottawa in 1949, makes even less sense now. Quote

No it's about shades of things. You progressives have taken us to the brink of our own extermination. Look out there and see what we've done... now that is fucking progress. Quote
Dougie93 Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 The Progressives are like parasites skimming off everyone to funnel money to Quebec. For example Newfoundland is not poor, the per capita GDP is $62,000. But the average wage is only $50,000 Where does the 25% that is missing go? Answer; Quebec. Quote

Newfoundland has been the single largest recipient of transfer payments per capita until its small oil boom. At least the impoverished have had the freedom of migration in Confederation to come to places like Ft. McMurray and Ontario for jobs. They would have it harder without Confederation. Quote

Who wants to live in a hell hole like Fort Mac? The privilege of paying astronomical rents and work round the clock just to pay off said rent, in dirty old Alberta. Quote
Dougie93 Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) My Uncle from Hants County came to visit me in Toronto. Once. Never set foot in it ever again. Pretty sure he'd rather die than live in dirty ol' Toronto. Edited August 27, 2019 by Dougie93 Quote
Dougie93 Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) So you see? The "promise" of Confederation? You can be down home on the dole, dependent on the Liberal Party of Canada handouts, or you can live in dirty ol' Toronto, or dirty ol' Fort Mac? Great deal, suckahs. What was the point of joining, if it all it meant was that they would put you on your knees, to force you to leave home to be disposable labor for the elites on Bay Street? I think I'd rather just run my own affairs, see if I could do better than the Liberal Party of Canada Socialist Progressives who run the economy into the dirt. Bear in mind what is at the end of their road of policy stimulus deflation; that's the stuff Depressions are made of. The moribund economy can be stimulated no more, wage and price deflation, Fort Mac goes, Toronto goes, what have you got left? Edited August 27, 2019 by Dougie93 Quote

Depends on what you are trying to find and what makes up your own "quality of life". I go through 2 traffic lights between my job and my home (mind you my job is on the other side of town ) Distance traveled ; 3km; time one way 7 minutes. After work I can go mushroom picking (king boletus, pines, chantrelles) or I go salmon fishing, or trout fishing, or hiking, or picking blue berries. In spring I can always find bears and take pictures. Wintertime I do great fishing in the snow. My mortgage is about 20% of my income, so not too stressed over that (although I know I have been screwed like just about everyone else). What I do not have is social entertainment ; topless bottomless kind of stuff; opportunities for exotic travels, opportunities to feel someone, but overall I am convinced my life is better than the average life in Ontario. So you guys there can have it all ; I am not going to take your space. Two pictures from my backyard to show you my terrible quality of life. (the actual "quality" is in having the physical abilities to go up there, when many Ontarians in their teens and 20s will remain on the bottom) Edited August 27, 2019 by cougar 1 Quote

But it was not for me. I need more space, more wilderness to explore, higher elevations, more wildlife, less people. This is my kind of freedom. Quote

I got my fill of climbing in the infantry, including the Complex Terrain and Ski-Mountaineering Course, but I'm getting old now, so I'm treating myself to some conveniences for a change. Quote
