Looks like some pathetic spambot is polluting the threads..

I have reported it. They may multiply to every topic and may be trying to put trackers on people who respond but whoever it is appears to be very clumsy and using an old technique.

I clicked into the CND one and had to go 20 pages before one of the real topics showed up.   Clean up is gonna take a restore/back up from a previous day. But I am sure Greg has some tools to purge all of that.   The attack is quite impressive.

"Impressive" wasn't quite the adjective I was going for....but yes it is...

I noticed that it's all in Korean.

Sorry, guys. The spam sneaking through this past year has been peculiar. It seems like Big Bad Brother knows when I need to catch some shut eye. I have alerted Greg about this most recent surge.

I don't know if it's a single click of the mouse or if you were up all night fending off demons but either way, I appreciate the effort you make in keeping this place going.

I've been in IT for close to 20 years, and this was most likely a couple bots doing the work, but impressive .. maybe adding in a captcha to verify login ... some second level of it.  Or a post rate limiter...

I've been receiving hundreds of junk mail in Chinese or some other oriental language but the title of the e-mails is the name of this site.

After a while, all of the spam looks the same to me. I have to squint to see the differences.

Getting rid of all the spam is only a few clicks of the mouse away.

The challenge is timing and getting them early enough in the morning.

This has been reported before, and after some investigation, I believe I have figured it out.

The reason you're receiving this "spam" is because you're subscribed to either a thread or a forum category that the spammers are targeting in the forum. The forum software has NOT been compromised, nor are the spammers even targeting you individually, it's just that the spam is being posted in the forum(s) and the forum software is simply doing what it was design (and configured by you) to do - which is to send a digest of whatever's been posted in the forum or category.

Does this make sense?

Yes, I've declined notifications and haven't had any spam emails.

I’m likely going to migrate to different forum software, IP.Board is a spam magnet.

August, you might just get your wish for a super simple forum interface!

I will post an update on the support section shortly.

thanks!

Yeah noticed it hitting again. The increase in frequency is concerning.  This is similar to a huge problem of phishing attempts via email. For what I see out there, not even things like heavy spam filter settings or something called Advanced Threat Protection via Office.com are doing much of a difference.  Good luck!
