Three Square Market is offering to implant the tiny radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip into workers' hands for free - and says everyone will soon be doing it.

The rice grain-sized $300 (£230) chip will allow them to open doors, log in to computers and even purchase food.

And so far, 50 employees have signed up for the chance to become half-human, half-walking credit card.

But far from being some sort of dystopian nightmare, Three Square Market's Patrick McMullan believes everyone will soon be wanting their own microchip.

"The international market place is wide open and we believe that the future trajectory of total market share is going to be driven by whoever captures this arena first," Mr McMullan said.

The company, which provides self-service "micro markets" to businesses around the world, was inspired by the micro-chipping already taking place in Sweden, where so-called "bio-hackers" have been inserting the tiny devices into willing participants for at least three years.

Three Square Market are even working with a Swedish company, BioHax, to deliver the new technology, which they see as one day being simply another payment and identification method - only instead of a credit card or phone, there would be a microchip between your thumb and finger.

 

So I guess this is an NFC chip meaning they can't track you using GPS or anything. But I still wouldn't do it. If anything I wouldn't want to let a foreign body that I may be able to feel in my hand. But it's the first step of a very slippery slope. 

The same benefits could be gained if you simply offer an App for people's phones that do the exact same thing. Kind of why I don't really think wearable tech will catch on. I only know a handful of people that actually use Smart Watches regularly. And anyone that does have one pretty much uses it as a fitness tracker (WHICH THE PHONE ALSO DOES!!!!) 

The perk of a smartphone is that it does so many things in one device.

Back to the company. Way too Big Brother for me. I wouldn't want to let my employer own something that's under my actual skin.

I don't think I would do it, not because of privacy issues but because it's just gross.  Also, these types of companies tend to be stupid and probably won't be around as long as that chip in your hand.

C'mon, we all know how this will be used and abused by employers, police, doctors and gov't, probably by financiers too.  People are running full tilt into giving away their freedom already.  Every millennial is too stupid to see the writing on the wall, they'll easily buy into it - probably demand it.  Parents will have their kids chipped because of "abduction" soon enough.  Wives will track husbands.  Glad i'm not living in the millennial age.

This is a reality. My notion is the more things are digitized and connected the bigger risk of a total cascading breakdown effect.  But yes anything computer based can and has been hacked. Your RDIF chip is no different.  And this is to get people used to the idea of being chipped and tracked everywhere they go. Also to go even farther to the total cashless society (we really live in that now for the most part) and when you are bad, the chip gets turned off and you lose access to everything. Because the people you would normally talk to in order to resolve issues have been replaced by automated systems.

Correct you are more than willing to be 'chipped' via technology. And eventually chipping will be needed just to interact with your mobile phone and other computing equipment. This is not a road we need to go down.

I think the mobile phone makes wearable tech largely irrelevant or at least just fringe tech.

I think that will be a passing fad as well. I see some of my colleagues with smart watches , and over the course of a few months, most have ditched them as they had to monitor two devices with the constant notifications.

True but they are not making it part of me. I get to choose when and where I use it. I guess one might be able to wear a piece of RFID clothing like the sleeves I use for my bank cards and NEXUS. But why should I have to.

They make RFID resistance wallets so you can't be tracked using that technology unless your ID is outside of the wallet.

I have one but how do you put yourself in a wallet? When you get a NEXUS card it comes with a RFID proof sleeve so if the feds don't want people reading their stuff without their permission, why should l want people reading mine.  Just think what George Orwell would have made of this if it was around when he wrote 1984.

"The mark of the beast" That is the dream of the globalist elite banksters is to have everyone on earth chipped. The chip in your hand will tell the banksters and the governments all over the world as to where one is by GPS, and what you may be doing at the time. Everyone's freedom of privacy will be gone forever. No more garage sales. No more playing cards together with friends for money. I guess that they will have to play with full beer bottles as bets. I will bet you three bottles of beer that my hand is better than yours. I will raise your bet to four beers. Just saying. 

Recently on you tube I read of someone who was chipped by their company, and after a few days had a terrible reaction to it. His finger became swollen from the reaction of the chip in his hands. Reaction from the radiation I assume. Any fool who allows themselves to be chipped has to be a total idiot. Unfortunately, we see that there are a few of those idiots around. 

It is way too big brother for me also.

One of the hallmarks that I see of the approaching end of our techno-industrial age are cellphones. Every 6 months one company or another comes out with the latest and most advanced cellphone with faster processors and more memory – along with a higher price tag. The apple iPhone 8 is rumored to cost over $1,000. Talk about unsustainable. Real wages are not increasing so to afford the latest cellphone, or anything for that matter, greatest requires consumers to make sacrifices elsewhere – but where? The pace of the consumer arms race appears to me to be more frenetic than ever. Cars, and car repairs, cost more and so do things like groceries, clothes, kitchen appliances (which no longer last 10+ years), education and all our extra-curricular activities like tickets to sporting events. If wages were keeping up then it could keep going. Convincing people to go back to the days of hand me downs, and companies to return to the days of better and longer lasting won’t happen UNTIL it has to. That day is approaching soon.
