Radio Canada says the names of the two are Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed Khadir.

I'm guessing the first one is a Muslim convert, but no word on that.

The preliminary reports say the two suspects arrested were identified as Mohamed Khadir and Alexandre Bissonnette.

There is an unconfirmed report one turned himself in voluntarily.

No one knows the motives.

The press is calling it a terrorist attack. Right now its an attack on a Mosque that killed 6 Muslims and injured at least 30 others while they were praying so if we were to accept that as fact, its inherently a hate crime and homicide. Whether it was also done as a political statement not just a hate crime to then constitute a terrorist act, remains to be seen. There's a fine line between a hate crime and a terrorist crime sometimes distinguishable, sometimes not distinguishable.

The irony is the name Khadir being the same last name or similiar sounding to the same of Omar Khadir.

Here is the issue. If its shown the hate crime was done by Khadir because of an inter-Muslim sect dispute as the motive, its going to fuel even more anti Muslim hatred as people argue..... see...Muslims are bringing their  civil war against each other to Canada and see you can't trust any Muslims they kill each other everywhere. Who needs them.  That's why the ethnicity of this Khadir individual is being omitted from the Canadian press probably. Is it relevant what his ethnic origin is, of course if its related to his motives but its a delicate issue. That said the other guy may not be Muslim at all. So now what?

There is going to  be debate as to whether this is a Muslim on Muslim hate crime,  a hate crime, a terrorist attack, a bunch of lone gunmen idiots attack, etc. Bottom line-innocent people were killed while praying and for what appears to be the reason they were identified as Muslim and the Muslim identity was a key factor in choosing the target. That means necessarily someone whether he was Muslim, non Muslim chose to brand innocent Muslims for what they perceived is the negative behaviour of other Muslims. That is an exercise of negative generl stereotyping of an entire people. That is the exercise I challenge over and over again on this forum whether its done to smeer all Christians, Jews, Muslims, gays. women, on and on.

The real issue is innocent people died while praying.

That makes it any way you slice it a crime against human beings, a crime against humanity which dehumanizes us all whether we be Muslim or not today.

I know this may be shocking to you. But people want to do evil stuff sometimes.

Terrorists kill way more Muslims than they kill White people.

We don't ask why they want to kill their own when an American shoots up a School or an Airport.

Excellent observation.....in fact, most homicides in the U.S. are "killing their own".

As far as speaking with a french accent, many people in Europe and the Middle East have french as their language, so that may be the reason. Also, I was listening to a radio this AM, and a cop from Cleveland said he had one case were he had to car chase this guy and when they caught him, he was a guy on the terrorists list and they didn't know he was in the US and he also said many of these terrorist are coming in on student visas and I do think Trudeau should be very careful  who we let in.

I don't understand, why would one of their own kill them? One is a Moroccan, both students, is this a mental health issue or are they a "silent terrorosts" and why now?                                                               http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html

I doubt the shooters considered that they were killing their own.   I hope they'll soon be able to tell us what the motive was since at least one of them is said to have felt guilty enough to turn himself in right away.

Yup.  I consider work visas, student visas, visitor visas all much more likely ways for terrorists to get into a targetted country than through a refugee program.

How come mainstream CBC and CTV does not say anything about the shooter being "Moroccan?"  MSM press does not either.

One report said La Presse had identified the shooter as being Moroccan.  I can't read French.  Can anyone read this La Presse article to verify if it's true that the shooter is Moroccan?  Please translate what it says.

Lapresse.ca says that the two suspects arrested are Alexandre Bissonette et Mohamed Khadir. But doesn't say where they got that info from.

it says the first arrest was at the crime scene and the second arrest was at about 8:10pm somewhere else and doesn't say where that arrest took place.

Lapresse says the two arrested were students from Laval University according to Le Soliel (local Quebec City newspaper). But they (Laval University or Le Soliel - I am not sure which establishment LaPresse is referring too) were unable to confirm this information as of press time at 8:30am.

Nevertheless, security was increased on the campus notably at the student residence and also at (i get iffy here...) two cultural / Muslim areas/meeting places/  at the University.

The RCMP have only confirmed that two suspects have been arrested without saying anything more about the suspects identities and indicated that the investigation is continuing. The only other information provided is that the arrested age between late 20's and early 30's.

there then follows a few paragraphs about what the mayor says and what the Premier says and a general blurb about how the Quebec provincial police assumed this was a terrorist attack and responded accordingly.

Then, immediately after useless map picture:
Quote

One assailant was arrested at the scene the other fled in a car but was arrested close to the Isle d'Orleans bridge some 20 km away.

Confessing to the crime, the young man of 27 years explained that he was sickened after the attacks and threatened to kill himself, said Le Soliel.

His vehicle, a black Mitsubishi, was stopped/arrested at traffic lights. He was taken to the Victoria Park police station.  Knives and an AK47 were found in the vehicle. The area was sealed off by police for almost 5 hours causing a traffic jam.

According to witnesses on television (that is to say that the Lapresse writers are writing about what they saw on the television reports) the Quebecois accent of one of the two assailants left no doubt about his origin. (Did they hear the assailant speaking? or are they saying that people interviewed on  television said that? The latter I suspect)

A few minutes before 8pm, the two killers started shooting. One of them cried out 'Allah akbar' wich is a thing that Islamic terrorists often do. The shooters had enough time to reload their weapons three times according to a witness. ( I assume a witness on the television reports)

the rest of the article mainly concernes how frightened and shocked the locals are.

So, this LaPresse report is mostly second hand stuff gathered from Le Soliel and what was seen on television. The only First hand info provided is that the RCMP claim that two people have been arrested and their ages of late twenties and early thirties. and thats it.

Just like the shooting of black people  in a church in the USA while they were doing Bible study.

Islamic terrorism had opened up a can of worms.  Copycats are coming out.

And with that, Justin Trudeau will no longer comment on this incident.

Funny that he'd travel to Quebec City with Mulcair and Ambrose to say nothing.

Bissonnette?  His FB page has been deleted, but it seems he liked Trump, the Isreali Army and France's far-right party.   https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/quebec-mosque-attack-suspect-liked-trump-israeli-army-french-far-right

Maybe the other guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Provincial police confirmed that only one of the individuals arrested yesterday night is a suspect.

Might want to wait until the first court appearance to figure out what happened.  It's very fluid.

Well not waiting for things is one part of fake news getting out there.

It would be good to know whether this is a Dylan roof type scenario or something else

I'm telling you what the SQ is saying, and what a very trusted journalist has put out there.
