I think it actually demonstrates their wish for democracy, i.e. majority rule.

Majority rule is vigilantism. Democracy is based on laws that promote fairness, not tyranny of the herd.

So what then do you call the electoral college undermining the will of the people?

I knew you were going to say that and it's time for you and the others to get over this now. It has already been explained to you why such systems exist, including the system of Ridings in Canada. If you study history you will see why Federalism could not be achieved otherwise.

I just find it rather ironic that one of the main reasons for the EC was to stop a totally unqualified person from achieving the highest office in the land, and now they have installed Trump. Might be time to rethink the whole plan.

Whatever the new system is that you propose, it must address the issue of providing meaningful representation for people across a large area. Cod fishermen on the east coast will not be subject to the whims of latte sippers in California. The idea being to protect the diverse cultures in a land. Otherwise, you ain't got a country bub.

Very simple, you add up the votes and you declare a winner. The latte sippers and the fisherman get an equal crack. 200 years ago the people may have needed protection from their ignorance of things political, but not nowadays.

But that way they don't get equal crack, friend. The EC helps to ensure they do get some. Hardly anyone wants to be a fisherman or farmer. That's too much like hard work. It's a huge cultural problem. The book "Town Mouse, Country Mouse" will tell you all you need to know about this cultural dichotomy that cannot be ignored.

The EC just thwarted the popular vote, whether they were fishermen, farmers, or unemployed rust belt workers doesn't matter, roughly 3 million of them didn't want Trump, and now they have him anyways. Maybe you should upgrade your library.

It seems like there were no disruptions during the inauguration.

Well sure, if you don't count Trump.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Well, at least is inauguration has proven one thing: That time travel is not possible.

Because if it was, you would have seen people from the future returning to stop Trump from being president (being the time in the world's history when everything went wrong.)

Of course, while Trump was having his big pre-inauguration party, protests were held which easily dwarfed the inauguration celebrations.

Obviously some people need a TV upgrade.  Maybe a new kettle.

It looks like there are some pretty desperate attempts to provoke as violent a reaction from the police as they can.

Just saw an amour vehicle, perhaps the National Guard?  Asked why they are doing this and the reporter said its Trump, Clinton, DC government etc. These guys. I'd send them  into military and then when they came back from the ME, they  realize they really don't have it that bad. Granted, all government can improve  but these guys are nuts!

I guess that's what happens when the president himself says you should take to the streets and revolt when a candidate does not win the popular vote and only wins the electoral college.
