I'll be fine. Canadian, remember?  My US travels will probably be limited to our friendly blue-state neighbors to the direct south. It's Americans living in red states I'm more concerned for.

I figure we're within 300-400km of each other...

California is my favorite state...San Francisco my favorite US city.

Unless, of course, the president says "Give it to them".

Not quite.......if they're not going through a confirmation process, in which it would be granted automatically, or hire them into a position that would entail them getting one through the conventional process, he'd be required to issue an Executive Order countermanding a prior Executive Order (13467) enacted by the Bush administration.... which outlines the entire legal structure of the granting of security clearances by the Director of National Intelligence......As I said, Trump could revoke the EO, as far as I know Obama never did, but there would be no point.......

Why is it a surprise that the Trump team is having trouble filling its Cabinet? He got elected being an outsider, so it'll be tough finding people that are familiar with the inner workings of the Executive Branch.

I believe JT has similar problems with all his young and inexperienced team. He needed help from the Ontario Liberals.

It's good to hear that some of the registered lobbyists have been jettisoned. Seems they're really serious about making this White House different than the Status Quo.

Yes......I know.

No it isn't.....Yankee White is a DoD grade, and wouldn't apply to civilian White House staff

No, category 2 is for military support staff, like cooks and stewards (only military personal, namely USN, are allowed to handle the President's food)

Again, for military groups, like the Marine drill team or the 3rd Infantry Regiment.......not civilian White House staff.

His children won't get any of said clearances as they're not military personal, nor employed by the Pentagon...........They would receive a standard top secret clearance, just like all the other employees in the West Wing, conducted by the (new) NBIB.......anything beyond that, for both military and civilian workers, goes into the domain of compartmented clearance and special access programs, which includes everything form intelligence ways & means and of course the nukes.....and if cleaners, secretaries etc have to work in areas with such information (White House situation room, CIA, NSA, parts of the FBI, Pentagon etc), in which they could come in contact with it, they to have to have an equal or greater level of security clearance as the information they could be exposed to............

The only people with such access, minus a clearance, are elected officials (President, Vice President, Senators and Congressmen etc) or those that went through a conformation process (Cabinet, Supreme Court justices, heads of agencies etc).

Dead on. I also take everything with a grain of salt coming through the media. I am no Trump supporter. I think he's a base primal baboon of a man. That said,  I suspect Obama staffers are pass off these stories to the press which I suspect is happening to embarrass Trump as the transition begins. ts pathetic.

Security clearance guarantees that anyone who talks to him takes an oath not to say anything even his family. Its routine. Its routine for his family to get it if they are adults. Does anyone think no other adult children of Presidents didn't have it. Give me a friggin break. Its a non story.

Everyone is speculating and no one knows a damn thing but Trump and his insiders about who they are looking at and because he's an outsider the insiders are as perplexed as the Obama staffers looking to see who replaces them.

Who he really is may take on forms no one has seen yet. I say wait a bit.

Listen you want nice go to Montpeliers, Vermont. Best city in the US. Also don't underestimate Seattle or Portland. That said Pence

looks like Mr. Clean with hair. He looks like an alien shape shifter turned Aryan Caucasian supermilitary droid. I suspect he is an alien.

He looks like a Hollywood WW2 Nazi General-the kind of actor who could only say Shweinhund and Achtung and maybe Rouse but nothing else so they gave no other script to and just said look angry and constipated and stand straight when you get killed.

My God he looks Teflon. Now how did that guy suddenly just emerge as his Veep candidate. I am telling you he is the next Dick Chaney.

As for Trump with all the parasites energy from the walls like roaches to food he's gonna have his hands full not being infected by the vermin.

If he thinks he can shake up the vermin with a new network of patronage so be it but from where I sit the lampreys always get their trout.

Of all the slogans I saw during this election, one of my faves was, "Trump that bitch"

That isn't at all surprising.

I was in California during the election. I met a surprising number of Trump supporters.

edit: mind you, we were much further south (between LA and San Diego). SF might well be different.

You'd think that the Democrats and their supporters would learn a quick lesson: That name calling did not win the election. Quite the opposite. Perhaps a new plan is in order. One involving less Whoopie and Mylie.Otherwise:

Enjoy the next 4-8-16 years.

Worked for Trump. He insulted and name called just about everyone.

I respect your decision to support Hillary over Trump.

The next few years will be hard, I suppose...for you.

I suspect the next few years will be especially hard on the poor working class slobs who thought Trump gave a damn about them and would do anything to make their lives better.

Meanwhile, how is Chris Christie going to try and find a fig leaf to cover his pride when he winds up getting nothing from the Trump presidency? It seems like Trump's son in law is taking revenge for Christie putting his corrupt real estate magnate dad in prison a decade or so ago. New Jersey is gonna get shut out of cabinet and power. Unless... hey, how about Charles Kushner for secretary of housing and urban development... ?

The next cabinet rumor

Quote

COLUMBIA - Gov. Nikki Haley is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump Thursday amid growing reports she is being considered for a spot in his administration.

News of the meeting, set for the morning in New York, began to filter out late Wednesday night from multiple press outlets. It also came after Trump-ally Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster told The Post and Courier earlier in the day he and Haley are being considered for Cabinet positions in Trump's White House.

McMaster said Haley is being considered for several posts including secretary of state. McMaster, one of Trump’s earliest statewide political endorsers, said the daughter of Indian immigrants could provide a fresh set of eyes on foreign affairs.

The next cabinet conspiracy.

Bankers celebrate dawn of Trump era

A populist candidate who railed against shady financial interests on the trail is putting together an administration that looks like an investment banker's dream.

You keep insisting that you are not a conspiracy theorist, but I'm not as sure.  Either way, business and industry has had it pretty bad under Obama, so it stands to reason that to get the economy humming, the banking industry is going to do better under a pro business Trump.  Invest in banking, you'll make out well too.
