Topaz
The PM and the Gov. Of Michigan and even though the name won't be announce until after noon, some are saying that its a very good chance it will be named "The Gordie Howe Bridge" because groups are pushing the Gov. to do it and Howe was born out in Saskatchewan, so it has a Canadian connection since Canada will be collecting the 2 billion tolls to pay for it. Any thought of other names?

Big Guy
Just announced that it will be called "The Gordie Howe International Bridge". Seems appropriate with all the stick handling that has been going on to decide financing it.
Argus
I would have named it the Hillary Clinton bridge, just to piss off all the Republican tea party loonies

Topaz
Reading the Windsor Star, some like it, some think Canadians should has more say, since we are putting the money up front, some say Howe was too American than Canadians and some say it should have been named after a Vet. bush_cheney2004
'Gordie Howe' is a good name for the bridge because he traveled to and lived in the U.S. during his storied career.
The_Squid
Gordie Howe Bridge is a great name.... Every Canadian knows who he is, and a few people in the Detroit area do too...
Topaz
A day after of the naming, many people in the area of Windsor, like Howe but not his name of the bridge. The following video, the Detroit news, also noticed that Harper doesn't like the media. http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/new-bridge-to-be-named-after-gordie-howe/33028666
Topaz
Perhaps they should have named it, "The North American Union Bridge", since Canada, US and Mexico will be one in the future and connect them.

After the NAU is finalized, Harper will be named Crown Emperor of the new creation, to be dubbed Magical Fairytale land. I know it's true because I read it on infowars. Topaz
Many in the Windsor area are saying why didn't they name it after a local vet that died in Afghanistan, instead of a hockey player or better yet do not give it a person's name but name it Detroit/Windsor international or DW International. They also said you can't pleased everyone but Harper should have let the public in the area, submit names. in the end, it will probably be referred to the "new " bridge. Black Dog
Way better than something dumb like the Freedom Bridge or some dead veteran. Plus, the traffic reports will be "traffic is pretty backed up along the Gordie from the Canadian side all the way to the spot where you get cheap booze and smokes"

kimmy
Someone on Windsor radio, said the reason they named it Gordie Howe was the American would have trouble spelling "Gretzky"! Perhaps the fact that Gordie Howe is both a beloved Canadian and a Detroit sports icon made him a far better choice than anyone else to name a bridge between Canada and Detroit. -k
cybercoma
What a stupid name. The Gordie Howe Bridge. Really? Why not name it the Bob and Doug Mackenzie bridge? You name the busiest international crossing in North America after a hockey player. smdh.Perhaps they named it after Gordie Howe because it will take as long as his career lasted for the damn thing to be finished. There's also the matter of highway approaches that are yet to be completed. Edited May 17, 2015 by Smallc
cybercoma
5 Years isn't that long considering we're talking about 4 jurisdictions, one of which refuses to help at all. There's also the matter of highway approaches that are yet to be completed. They've been working on this for a lot longer than 5 years. The Schwartz Report was presented to the City of Windsor in January 2005 and was commissioned well before that. The official website of the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway says it started construction in 2011, but the City of Windsor expropriated the land along Hwy 3 for its construction well before that. Let's not forget the legal wranglings of Manny Maroun even before that over twinning the Ambassador Bridge. Also, Brighton Beach was announced as the landing point for the new crossing all the way back in 2008. In January 2004, DRIC completed its feasibility study, which means it was formed and began conducting its research well before that. So for the people in Windsor this has been a project since January 2004 when the new international crossing was proposed. This has been an ongoing disruption for the last 11 years with the city government expropriating people's homes and tearing up major thoroughfares through the city in preparation for the new crossing.
