Guess that's supposed to be humour.

No it isn't. What the hell is wrong with you?

It's supposed to be a comment to the effect that most men have women they care about enough to make "women's issues" their issues.

"Journalists doing their job" is an interesting phrase. There is no reasonable excuse for consenting to an interview and then using a profanity. My problem is with the "consenting" part. Some youngster with a microphone all of a sudden decides that he/is a journalist and the "publics right to know" supersedes common decency.

Uh? What?

I have seen people have a microphone shoved in their face and asked "How do you feel about the violent death of your ...". I am surprised more of them have not ended up with the microphone stuck up their *********. I have been interviewed and the interviewer has been allocated politeness with politeness. I have also had that microphone stuck in my face by some jackass trying to follow an agenda and deadline. Those folks get the civility they deserve.
What's that got to do with anything here?

Oh, guess I'm not up on what passes for a swave and debonair these days.

I apologise for being so sharp. It's touchy on here sometimes.

Grossly over-reacting. Anyone who thinks this harmless prank is a real problem is not someone you can take seriously.

I don't know that it's actually hurting anyone. I don't know if it's even intended to hurt anyone. It is stupid. It is harassment. It is in some cases sexual harassment.

So, what do you recommend be done with these people?

I think it's real. I don't think it's intended that way at all. It's definitely dumb.

It's not hurting anyone? Ok, here are comments from women who have experienced these kinds of harassment in their own words:

"This is something we constantly face, though. I would say once a week," she said. "It makes me want to curl up in myself. It's mortifying."

"Standing in large crowds where she might face FHRITP taunts can be "very uncomfortable," she said."

"A truckload of guys drove by and yelled it in behind our interview," she said.

"We just all stopped and didn't know what to say. It's like we lost our breath. It was so degrading and insensitive."

"Everybody laughed … it felt embarrassing and off-putting," Caruk said.

"This was something that felt very targeted to me as a woman and very threatening."

"But when people yell something vulgar, misogynistic and rude at me or into my microphone, I shouldn't need to tell them it is unacceptable."

"FHRITP — or f--k her right in the p---y — is a phrase men scream at (for the most part) female reporters. It's rude, it's degrading and it's harassment," Grant wrote.

"It's not funny. It makes women feel uncomfortable. You make women feel uncomfortable."

"For people who are aware of the internet phenomenon, it might have seemed like a rude joke. But I hadn't seen the videos online, so I felt shocked and violated by the words. It felt personal. Not just a catchphrase, but more of a taunt suggesting that the men around me, instead of talking to me, should be, you know, raping me," Birkbeck wrote.

"My reaction was visceral. People around me stopped and stared. I felt totally exposed."

St. John's-based journalist Chris O'Neill-Yates called the FHRITP trend "a filthy and disgusting fad," and "a type of abuse intended to objectify, humiliate and demean female television reporters."

To be catcalled that way while reporting was "very unnerving, very unsettling and quite frightening, actually," she told CBC News Now host Carole McNeil.

"It's not funny. It's offensive, degrading and sick. But every time we allow an act of violence to go unchecked we are enabling the abusers.

"So for the first time in my life, I'm speaking out publicly about violence against women. I'd like all my colleagues to know about it and to keep their guard up. I'm just saddened that in 2014 we need to be having this conversation."

The above quotes are from reporters across Canada. But, of course these are harmless pranks so let's dismiss their concerns. We can't possibly take these women seriously.

I'll ask you, what I asked Jacee; what should we do with these perpetrators?

BTW - Have we also changed the meaning of the word "violence"?

What do we do? We work to educate these morons and future morons to cut with the harassments. It's pretty simple.

After all those comments from the targeted women, all you are concerned with is the word 'violent'?

I think seeing a dude get fired is pretty good education for most of these people. I hope...and think we'll see and end to this.

As I saw in the "men's rights" thread (the Sharon Osborne video in particular), if this type of poor behaviour and lack of common decency is accepted and not addressed, it just increases the division among sexes. Videos like the FHRITP are getting worse and overwhelming joy discussing male mutilated genitalia is getting worse.

As for those comments you posted, some seen reasonable, some seem a little exaggerated. I'll leave it at that.

You don't have the right to judge women's emotions regarding issues that directly impact them. I'll leave it at that.

Emotions certainly change depending on the individual, you posted quotes that range from "unnerving" to "rape" and I would suggest (knowing some pretty strong and liberated women) that others wrote it off as just "rude idiots" and got on with life.

The Quote that strikes out at me the most is this one; "I'm just saddened that in 2014 we need to be having this conversation."

We are having this conversation exactly because it's 2014. This stuff wasn't happening 10 or 20 years ago, fact is; we are living in a world that accepts this. It actually saddens me a little. We see interviewers asking Gwenyth Paltrow and others about their pubic hair, asking Martha Stewart about having 3 somes, that disgusting video of Sharon Osbourne and her pals and you can't see a sitcom where every joke is sexualized or drama where men aren't abusive. It goes on and on. This is what we get by raising a self indulgent, do as I please, push the limits society.

What exactly was it he said that warranted him getting fired? From what I understand, it was his buddy that made the offensive comment, he just said he found it funny. I guess possessing a bad sense of humor is enough to get you fired these days.

It wouldn't surprise me if this guy is currently looking for a good labour lawyer.

Heard a labour lawyer asked about it on the radio. He said that if the guy was his client he would advise him to move on because all he would be doing was keep himself in the news even longer, have that clip played a few thousand more times and would probably lose anyway. This was the same idiot who said she was lucky they didn't have a vibrator and that his mother would find it funny. If so, that might explain him. Edited by Wilber

I take issue with the vibrator comment more than the FHRITP thing because that actually was directed at her.
