Manslaughter is a different change than murder for a reason. You're sort of disproving your own example. Guilt has to be proven. for many charges intent is paramount.

Yeah, you've already slid that goalpost to "many" charges now. The fact is that intent is not a necessary requirement for "many" charges as well. So you don't actually have a point. Unless you're actually claiming that someone needs to intend to harass someone in order for harassment to take place. I'm sure all those exboyfriend and girlfriends who've had peace orders placed against them would love to have you writing the laws. Edited by cybercoma

Good question...does that include heckling an NHL goalie with "Katy Perry" ?

Are you sure you have a clue what you're talking about? Which NHL goalie was heckled with "Katy Perry?"

I think he is talking about the idiots harassing Corey Perry, but being from Winnipeg, you already knew that, didn't you?

Really? What's his save percentage?

Wow that's stretching it to the extreme. Nice to see men referred to as 'little pigs', and some men might actually find that offensive.

Minor technicality : For sexual harassment to take pace in the work place, BOTH would have to be working the same job when the incident happened. Otherwise you can just view it as sexual harassment.

But can I go down the street and call someone a n F'n Ahole?

Sure you can!

We're talking about a specific little pig.

His boss thought his behaviour was disgusting enough to fire him.

Ok, so here we have a situation; Corey Perry is just doing his job and he is getting harassed by the fans - 20,000 of them. You might think it's just harmless fun or you might think it's just a bunch of idiots - and knowing they're Winnipeggers, who would blame you...but wait!

What we have here is a clear case of sexual harassment. I know this because Ive read every post in this thread. Here is a person at his workplace being harassed by people in the crowd - Calling him "Katy Perry" and it's offensive. Wilbur may not agree, but then again as long as someone finds offence - that's good enough for a harassment charge. It is also said that if a sexist component is added (as Wilbur and Jacee attest), then it should be noted that by referring to him as the female pop star "Katy Perry" the crowd is making a clear statement challenging his sexuality - WoW! Now we have a clear case of sexism and sexual harassment.

Now, I wasn't sure if this was a strong enough case but, like WCR suggests, it comes down to the victim impacts. On the video you can clearly see that the crowd is directing their abuse and violence toward him and he is bothered - maybe even threatened, uncomfortable, mortified and humiliated. This isn't harmless, this is abusive behaviour by 20,000 Winnipeggers - WCR won't understand because she's a woman, but i'm a man and know full well how this person must feel.

Thank you for explaining...I guess the pithy and obvious always escapes somebody.

That's true, I guess, but the difference between a forward and a goalie doesn't even escape my elderly mother who can't stand hockey.

My elderly mother is dying of cancer she was a great nascar fan I'm just dropping in for a visit.

She would not be impressed with FHRITP. She actually wouldn't get it to her dying days

Reviewing the incident:

/hes-fired-whos-next/

...as Hunt set up to interview a pair of fans, a drunk man with a goatee lurched into the frame and spat out an all-too-familiar slur: Fk her right in the py.

...

Hunt, a hard-news veteran, says shed heard it about 10 times that day, and she decided on the spot she was done ignoring it. With the camera rolling, she rounded on a group of leering, glassy-eyed onlookers whod been waiting gleefully for the scene to unfold. The speaker had drifted away, but two of his friends, astonishingly, stuck around to defend the insult: I think its quite substantial, smirked one, while the other later revealed to be a young network engineer named Shawn Simoes raved that "Its fking awesome!" adding: "Youre lucky theres not a fking vibrator in your ear!"

...

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, several tweeters identified Simoes by name and outed him as an employee of Hydro One, Ontarios provincial power utility.

...

Reporters began seeking comment from Hydro One and, like that less than 24 hours after he appeared on screenSimoes paid the price for his misadventure. Hydro One announced it was sacking him.

I wonder if he was 'outed' by men? :)

Yes I know you believe that being drunk is no excuse, but please tell me if you have not done anything remotely stupid while intoxicated.

I haven't because I have never been drunk, nor do I intend to. What is so enjoyable about reducing your cognitive ability and damaging your brain and liver?

Posted

I've never understood that either. Apparently aome people enjoy it. I'll never understand why. I do enjoy when my girlfriend is just the right amount of drunk though...story for another time, perhaps.

Nothing, however, it seems to facilitate certain forms of social interaction with Earthlings, which can be helpful if one desires to find a suitable mate.

You are probably facilitating 'Rape Culture' with this comment or something.

Clearly, we need more mandatory university classes to teach men not to rape to solve this issue!

Well, last night, I got beat up by her (a little too drunk)...but then it still went okay in the end. So it was an assault followed by a rape.

If you were raped by your girlfriend you should go to the police. If you're making light of people who've been raped, then you're an asshole. Period.

Technically, I raped her. She was drunk, how could she ever consent?

Joking about rape puts you guys on a completely new level of pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You're absolutely disgusting. This garbage should have no place on this forum.

Actually, I'm asking about this now. I don't consider these types of comments to be worthwhile dialogue myself.

The topic is not rape anyway....that's just approved thread drift.

I imagine the dialogue stems from the ludicrous idea that one can't consent to sex if one is drunk. That somehow, if that happens, rape happens. There are people who believe that. Therefore the dialogue is valid.

You posted an article, I believe, from the Globe and Mail somewhere that seemed to imply that. (Full disclosure: I didn't read it all)

There was an article on the CBC website about a counsellor who was talking to a group, recently, it might have been a military college, in which she was mocked for saying that if consensual sex is had between a drunk couple, the man could be charged with rape. And the news was that she was mocked!

There are an awful lot of people, on here and out in the world, who seem to have never been in an actual relationship.

Actually, I don't want to get personal about this. I withdraw the "on here" part of that sentence.
