cybercoma Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Perhaps there are some aspiring journalists on the forum that may find this useful. Sun News is hiring. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2012/08/20120802-124614.html One warning though: they don't want anyone with an actual journalism degree. Quote
Boges Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 One warning though: they don't want anyone with an actual journalism degree. Guess they think people with Journalism degrees think their programming is tripe anyway or be brain-washed to think Liberalism is the only way. They always talk about the "Consensus Media" on Sun News. Things that are just agreed upon without any debate at all. Quote

wyly Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 The prerequisite is to be as dumb as their readers/listeners. LOL factually true...newspapers have target audiences and the sun targeted readers generally fall into grade 12 or less category...a journalist with the NYT might as well be writing in a foreign language as far as the sun readership is concerned... Michael Hardner Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 I'm sure that I would fit in there very well. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Really? Do you have access to their mission statement? And does it say that they are focusing their news coverage to under educated people? Quote
MiddleClassCentrist Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Really? Do you have access to their mission statement? And does it say that they are focusing their news coverage to under educated people? It's the sensationalist newspaper for the uneducated masses. The discussion is simplistic and dramatic, and heavily one sided. Average word usage is about Grade 8 level. They know their target market, they scoff at education and any professional that makes more than they do. So they fill it with personalities that match theirs. Edited August 3, 2012 by MiddleClassCentrist Quote Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

Micheal Coren has a degree in English Literature, Krista Erickson worked for the CBC so she must have had some form of Journalism eduction to get ter, but whatever. The Sun is sort of McNews but a lot of what we see on the Star has become short and concise news too. Edited August 3, 2012 by Boges Quote
Mr.Canada Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 I think the goal of almost any newspaper is to have a large readership and thereby having larger profits. It does a newspaper no good to have words in it that the average person cannot understand. Many people read the newspaper to relax. I'd like to see evidence of any mass publication daily newspaper in Canada using university level wording throughout. If the Star is so much better show me some proof that they are using much higher composition. Btw, every paper is sensationalist. It sells newspapers. Boges Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Yeah people bitch about the Sunshine Girl or Gotcha Journalism but the Star sends people to the Mayor's house and to stalk him at the cottage. Oh and goes to press on photos of him leaving a KFC. Edited August 3, 2012 by Boges Quote
Topaz Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Before entering politics, Bev Oda was a journalist, maybe Harper got her a job writing rave reviews about the Harper government, instead spending taxpayers money. Quote

wyly Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 how can anyone deny that newspapers have target audience and are written to reflect the education/sophistication of that audience...I suspect those who would deny it are part of the Sun demographic... Moonlight Graham Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 They probably don't want journalism grads because those programs teach thinks like "objectivity". Sounds like they're just looking for a few loudmouths who can string some sentences together. cybercoma Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 They always talk about the "Consensus Media" on Sun News. Things that are just agreed upon without any debate at all. Wild Bill Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 That's because SUN News and their viewers are too stupid to know the difference between commentary and reporting. Talk about yer ad hominem! Anyone who likes a newspaper you don't like must be stupid! CC, are you having some troubles lately? I have always enjoyed the Sun although I don't buy it any more. They toned down the Sunshine Girl so much over the years that I don't usually find her very attractive. More like what women think men are SUPPOSED to like rather than what we actually do. I also like the Post and the Globe. The only one I really don't care for is the Toronto Star. I find it so biased to a liberal perspective that it is totally predictable. I know what they are going to say before I even read the article. Boring! I don't mind that their slant is different from my own. How can we learn if we only read what we already agree? It's just their predictability. I find it just a big pitcher of Liberal Kool-Aid. But that's just me! cybercoma Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 But I noticed that you didn't dent that the SUN is stupid. Who could ? Not only is it commentary disguised as reporting, but they're looking for uneducated opinions. Awful. Quote
