overthere Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 The moves he made in the leafs management and office last summer were excellent moves, Curious that you think having senior management select the entire management pyramid -down to assistant coaches -while leaving the GM and the coach with no accountability-as being 'excellent'. OK. I see I fooled you all with the notion that winning championships is the goal. The real goal for owners in pro sport is making money, and spreading the magic dust of winning on eager fans is like having sparkles on a Twinkie. The Leafs have taken the formula to a new height: making buckets of cash while fielding a bunch of frozen, skating turds year after year. It proves that Harold Ballard was a visionary. By far the greatest achievement in the last decade for the NHL is applying a salary cap. It greatly increases the chances of any team in an expanded league to make money, while taking off the pressure to actually win anything. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted January 22, 2015 Author Report Posted January 22, 2015 I've totally tuned this team out. Which is what fans SHOULD do instead of paying money to throw $200 jerseys on the Ice. What a Dumpster Fire! It sucks the Raptors are playing almost as bad. The Blue Jays start soon. Quote

It means the years since a team has made a Stanley Cup final appearance X the value of the team in billions. The leafs have the current and unbeatable record here for that. Black Dog Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 I loved the guy who threw his wife's jersey on the ice because he didn't want to part with his own. LOL Quote

Black Dog Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 You're probably right about the draft pick position. However, I don't expect Shanahan to just make cosmetic changes and tolerate the same thing all over again. He doesn't seem like that kind of person, especially having spent all those years with the Red Wings, and then in the NHL front office. The moves he made in the leafs management and office last summer were excellent moves, and should start to pay dividends going further. He'll need to work a small miracle. They are a salary cap team right now with some unmoveable contracts and a few key players in line for raises (and the sliding loonie is gonna dent any growth in the cap). They have no true #1C and no true #1D and their depth is no hell either. Huge holes to fill. At this point, they are facing thE dilemma all perennial middle of the pack teams face: build around what you have or tear it all down and start over? Quote
BubberMiley Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 But you can't compare him when he played first line, and first powerplay in New Jersey, to third line, and occasional powerplay. He's just not going to put up the same numbers. It's impossible.I guess when you don't know what you're talking about, you are likely to tell people they don't know what they're talking about when they clearly do. Clarkson is a tire fire and you were not only wrong, but terribly rude about it. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

Black Dog Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 If the Leafs weren't gonna play Clarkson on the first line and give him big PP minutes, why did they give him first line money? The answer is, of course, they intended to, but he's a terrible hockey player, which forces them to play him lower in the order. He's barely an NHLer at this point. Quote
overthere Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 One thing the Leafs could and should do is change their captain. It's free. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

PrimeNumber Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Well now that we all agree that the leafs suck. Can we change the thread title to "Hey let's talk about the Jets"?The boys in blue are riding a 5 game win streak into the allstar break, beat Chicago in Chicago 3 times this year, beat the defending Stanley Cup champions in their own house and took the Ducks to overtime the very next night. Hutch the Clutch has been phenomenal between the pipes this year posting up currently the 2nd best GAA at 1.90 and LEAGUE LEADING .935 save percentage with a 14-4-2 record in his rookie season, this kid should be in the Calder running with Forsberg!! Big buff has been an absolute blueline boss since moving back to defence, and would without a doubt be in contention for the Norris at this point in the season if he had been there from the start. Not to mention when 4 of our top 6 defencemen went down about 1/4 of the way into the season Buff held together a rag tag group of AHL call ups, while the Jets still managed to keep their wildcard spot. This all from a team who at the beginning of the season was said to be in contention for the McDavid sweepstakes. Now after the all-star break with Perreault returning from the Injury list and a 100% healthy team, the Jets looks to build on their 5 game win streak against the Penguins in Pittsburgh who will be missing Crosby and Malkin for their apparant "injuries" before the all star game, surprise surprise. Whats a season it's been for the Jets so far. Quote “Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find your way around or through it. PrimeNumber Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 I love when he checks Perry in the neutral zone and Kesler and Maroon both come up to him to challenge and he just grabs each of them, one in each hand likes he's going to pull a three stooges and smash them together. Lucky for them the refs stepped in. For the last few years the Bruins have been considered the tougher team in the league but I think Winnipeg has risen to become that team lead by Big Buff, Kane (who Mr. though guy Lucic has backed down to fighting twice this year.), Zach Bogosian, Thorburn, Tony Peluso (arguably one of the best fighters in the league), Trouba, Ladd, Wheeler, Lowry. Very few players on the Jets will back down from a fight. All we need to really make a push this year is a solid 3rd line RW, preferably one with Center experience. A good faceoff specialist would really help out our penalty kill, as we take the most penalties in the league. As an armchair GM I'd be going after someone like Antoine Vermette considering Arizona is rumoured to be having a fire sale this year. Many other names pop up, but to me Vermette is obtainable and most likely available. Quote “Be like water making its way through cracks. One of them tucks his head in for a cuddle with Buff. Neither looks at all interested, just a ritual dance. I'd like to see Buff vs Luke Gazdic. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Neither looks at all interested, just a ritual dance. I'd like to see Buff vs Luke Gazdic. The thing about Buff is he loves to throw his weight around and will answer the call to a retaliation but he doesn't throw many punches and just kind of wrestles guys to the ground most of the time. I'm convinced Paul Maurice hasn't given him the green light to throw punches in case of injury maybe? Without Buff the intimidation factor on the Jets goes down by a lot. Peluso on the other hand is the Jets best fighter without a doubt and has had 2 or 3 fights with Gazdic, including one in the AHL. If your counting shots their might be a winner but it can really go either way. Probably the two best fighters in the NHL right now. Quote “Be like water making its way through cracks. The_Squid Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Buff doesn't need to fight... he hammers them with clean checks and then gets jumped on... he makes the hit, they go to the penalty box. If he needs to, he will drop the gloves. I really like how he plays. And it takes some serious skill to be able to be a decent D-man and forward, even if he isn't the league's best at either position. Quote

Be funny if they turn it around and win just enough down the stretch to screw themselves in the lottery. I really wonder if they'll do a deadline firesale, but their best assets are also among their worst contracts. No too many teams taking on big money, long term deals in the current environment. Quote
