Topaz Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Tim Horton has made festive coffee mug for Christmas for all provinces BUT the one for Quebec has replaced the maple leaf for a snowflake. Horton's say its not a political move but a business move. I say, its both. I think most Canadians outside of Quebec, will be angry for Timmy's doing so. The Quebec government and Harper is to blame for this. Harper made a mistake by saying Quebec is a nation within a nation and that may come back and bite him in end. Why do politicians allow Quebec have special treatment from the rest? http://news.sympatico.ca/oped/coffee-talk/tim_hortons_festive_mug_loses_the_maple_leaf_in_quebec/3c5452b7 Quote

Oleg Bach Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 My former wife managed one of these Horkans joints..I learned a lot about the inner workings at head office. For instance there was a previous manager who was black - she built up the buisness to the point where the profits were almost 4 million...THEN what they did was fire the manager that built up the buisness - and hired a brown person for half the money. THEN - the former manager launched a suit for wrongful dismisal...She won the suit very quickly because her employment record with the company was exceptionally brilliant..so.. Then - what the cheap corporate bastards did was send down a message from head office to NOT generate good employment records for any manager..they were instructed in a new policy --- to guard against future litigations...too - create poor to medidiocre employment records...Tim Hortons are cheap - and greedy...and I hope they fall on their face! Shady Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Why do politicians allow Quebec have special treatment from the rest? So you want the government to get involved in the selection of mugs a private company provides for it's customers, in a certain region? Quote

LOVE IT WHEN...the Hortons...go off to set up shop in Afghanistan...as if they are missionaries bringing relief to "OUR" soldiers...Hortons does not give a damn about anyone. Just like most corporations that find success..the bigger the beast gets the more it tramples . Quote

A marketing decision made by a corporation in different regions of the country(it happens all the time) has nothing to do with politicians. You may not like the present PM but you must have a credible connection to be able to slag him. This was a swing and a miss, Topaz. That being said, Timmy's coffe sucks and their donuts suck. Moonlight Graham Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) This story enrages me. Mostly because there is certainly a good portion of Quebecers who would much prefer a snowflake on their coffee cup than a maple leaf. The_Squid Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Timmies made a business decision in order to sell more mugs.... Nothing to see here.... Quote
Michael Hardner Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Yes, but to reinforce Sharkman's point: Tim Horton's sold the farm on the quality of their products years ago, in my opinion. I used to be a fan, but only buy from them now when there are zero other options. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

It may not be "political" in itself, but still very telling that they've had to change their marketing strategy by removing the leaf from mugs in Quebec. Still, why bother selling the flag mugs at all then? Is Timmys becoming some kinda nationalist patriotic campaign? The fascist donut shop... Quote

They think they can sell more mugs sans maple leaf. They are thinking about marketing. Does this say something about Quebec? Perhaps... Something we didn't already know? Probably not... Is it something to get upset about Quebec or Harper about? Not really... I don't buy crap with maple leaves on it. Do I want my region to separate from Canada? Not really... Quote

It all went downhill from there. Then they came back to Canada for a short while but it was too late. Not even sure who owns them now anyway. I am against them. Much prefer the good old home-town socialist donut shoppes. Places where you go in and people are wearing berets Quote

dre Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Its unfortunately in that the marketing division of a large company has decided the Canadian flag doesnt sell stuff in Quebec. I wish that wasnt the case. But I wouldnt read to much into this. Seems to me like a marketing team just decided to give this a try. Maybe they could buy the rights to put a Habs logo on there. No sure Tim Hortons has much in the way of problems. As for the Hortons Haters on here In Canada Tim Hortons has become sorta like MicroSoft. Its really trendy to hate it (while you keep buying/using it). Its not that bad IMO. Ill drive through and get a Sandwich and a Coffee, and its better than most of the other places where I can do that (ratland, bk, dq, wendies, aw, kfc, and so on). sharkman Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 The best donuts in BC are at this donut shop called the Donut King in Kamloops. Mouth watering glazed or many variations. I pity those who think they enjoy Timmy donuts. What the hell is a walnut crunch anyway? Whenever I'm going out of town for work I stop in at the Donut King. Last time I bought a whole dozen for the 3 hour drive home. I almost got sick, but it was worth it. Quote
