Another aid ship en route to Gaza . . .

An Irish-owned boat laden with humanitarian supplies is continuing its journey towards Gaza despite Israel’s insistence it will not allow any vessel break its blockade on the territory.

The MV Rachel Corrie , which has five Irish citizens aboard, including Nobel peace laureate Mairéad Corrigan-Maguire and former UN official Denis Halliday, is currently in Libyan waters some 640 km (400 miles) from Gaza.

The boat, which is captained by Eric Harcis, is travelling at approximately 340 kms (210 miles) a day and expects to reach Gaza by Saturday. Film-maker Fiona Thompson from Dundalk and husband and wife Derek and Jenny Graham from Co Mayo are also on board.

“I spoke to Derek and he said they were going full throttle towards Gaza,” Freda Hughes from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign said today. “Originally the boat was lagging behind the rest of the flotilla, now it looks like the one surviving member that might get to Gaza."

Ms Hughes said the activists would not accede to an Israeli request unloading the ship’s cargo at Ashdod port for transport to Gaza was not a deal the activists would strike with Israel, as the ship is carrying banned building materials including cement which would not be delivered.

“It’s bringing aid to Gaza that’s not allowed such as medical equipment and construction materials. If it docks in Ashdod, none of this aid will reach Gaza”.

Speaking from the ship today, Dennis Halliday said: “We want to emphasise that our aim is not provocation but getting our aid cargo into Gaza”.

We are calling on the UN to inspect the cargo and escort us into Gaza, he said, adding “we all remain in good spirits”.

Irish officials have been maintaining close contact with the 1,200-ton boat which was supposed to join the aid flotilla raided by Israeli commandos on Monday but was delayed due to mechanical problems.

“We have continued to make it clear to the Israeli government . . . that we want maximum restraint and we do not want any interception in international waters,” Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin said. “It has been a terrible week in terms of the loss of life and there is now an obligation on all involved to reduce tension . . . It is extremely important that we do not have a repeat of what happened earlier this week.”

Israel’s ambassador to Ireland, Zion Evrony, has said Israel does not expect any confrontation or violence when the MV Rachel Corrie approaches the exclusion zone.

The storming of the six-ship flotilla by Israeli commandos on Monday resulted in the deaths of nine activists and prompted renewed international criticism of Israel’s blockade.

Just wait...the activists had cameras and they will be released soon...its all over Twitter.

Can I also ask one more question, dancer is having a bad day, can you give him some advice?

, especially since Israel has confiscated all recordings of the incident, and Canada and the US have blocked a UN investigation.

Probably as close to an independent account of the incident we'll ever get[/url], especially since Israel has confiscated all recordings of the incident, and Canada and the US have blocked a UN investigation.

So, perpetrator of the act investigates themselves? No surprise, it's all too familiar. But truth will come out, neither US nor Canada hold the keys to it; the only question is which side of it will Canada find itself on. Goodbye independent, objective and non partisan position, internationally. One more thing that's too costly to keep in this volatile world. Better to get by, somehow, based on priorities and friendships of the moment.

Something that has no bearing or relevance to the thread.

Speaking of irrelevance...could you cite the laws you claim Israel broke by boarding the blockade runners?

I was so impressed by your attempt to prove yourself that I put it in my signature.

Good move. Now no matter what gobbledygook you post, you are guaranteed to have one coherent intelligent snippet in your post. You should give me credit though, in case someone thinks you managed a coherent thought all be yourself.

Quite frankly, you and several other posters here are complete ideologues who treat this conflict as if it was a geopolitical football game - you are completely unable to admit when Israel has made any significant mistake - something which ISRAELIS THEMSELVES ARE ABLE TO DO.

Everyone involved in this post is involved in this football game including yourself...

Spell it out for me what significant mistake has isreal made, the blockade, the raid , what exactly ?

If most Israelis view this incident as a debacle because of government fumbling, and you don't - than what does that say about how much you actually know about the situation in specific, or the conflict in general?

If you mean a debacle in the terms the raid ended in shambles then yes...if you mean debacle in the terms of that nation enforcing a blockaid then no.... As for knowing about the conflict in general i spent a couple of tours in EL arish, not far from Gaza, and Golan hieghts, Syrian border. I don't claim to be an expert, but i've seen some of these mishaps in person, and they are blown out of proportion by both sides.

That's completely bogus. The only people who claim that IHH is involved with Al-Qaeda is the Israeli government, because they want to discredit them. There was the initial statement by the deputy foreign minister the day of the incident, now we have this article that you provided with us that's by an organization made up of former Israeli intelligence agents:

Lets just say there is no Al Quada conection, does that give the IHH a glowing record or are they involved in terrorist activities to include funding and arming groups such as HAMAS....and if they are what is thier motivation to this whole event, what are they getting out of it...dont tell me they are interested in getting supplies and goods into Gaza....

Would the Canadian Navy try to drop onto the deck of a ship full of tense and emotional people one at a time from a helicopter?

Lets try the rescue of Canadian service personal and equipment being held for ransom, by some ships company for wages or something stupid like that...in was in the news a few years back....and yes SPec ops and Navy persons actually got lowered onto the deck one at a time by the rescue winch a very slow process....

Or would they have tried to block/slow down the ship, disable the propeller, clear the deck with water canons if people didn't go below deck, and then board in groups over the side?

Kind of head to do when you've been ordered to use non lethal force...hence the paint ball guns...but normally yes the ship the commandos where on would disable the ship if it refused to stop...by either shots across the bow, or just below the water line...

Open up the border, have a UN force handle inspections, stop stalling on the peace process.

Bullshit...everyones answer is call the UN in, who's got troops for the UN everyone is tapped out...

here is a novel idea, lets stop lobbing rockets from gaza....stop the cycle of violence...

Don't forget it always takes two to tango.

Which doesn't seem to be a part of this game. These people seem to want status quo captured and legitimized exactly one second after dirty little affairs have been accomplished. Instantly reincarnated as holy saints / agnes who descended this Earth that one second ago and have neither knowledge nor responsibility for their past (or present) acts.

Today I grab your land or raid your territory killing and injuring a bunch of civilians - that's in the past or something else or it doesn't really matter.

Tomorrow you hit me back - OMG, I'm a poor innocent victim of aggression, "MURDER"!

Not when that's the whole point.

Defensive weapons compared to what their opponents had.

Will you let me shoot you with a 20lb slingshot armed with marbles/steelies? It'll do way more damage than a paint ball gun.

Re: clubs being called a defensive weapon. Will you allow me to hit you with a medieval mace? I'm just defending myself, so you should be OK.

No and no.

Now can Israel just let the activists make their point? If they make it peacefully Israel should be okay.

Good that you're dropping the whole 'defensive weapon' concept re: clubs, knives and slingshots...though I would have happily provided a demo.

ahahah..It’s funny how you use irony to refer to yourself as an intelligent person. i know you are mad that i didn’t give you credit for your attempt to prove yourself. Thanks for clarifying that. But I said it wasn’t a complete answer and you need to try again.

I do make you say shit i want to hear; too bad you are falling for it every time. HAHAHA

What was the Geneva Convention again???c’mon??? cookies

I didn't drop anything. If you were coming at me with anything like a weapon in your hands I'd use whatever I had at hand to stop you. Then again if you came at me peacefully I'd wait until you make the first move. As long as it's peaceful you should be OK.

I'd still ask you though, can Israel just let the activists make their point or not? If they make it peacefully Israel should be just as okay as you.

1. Their blockade is illegal. 2. They started firing at a civilian ship in international waters which is a violation of international law (maritimes). 3. IDF was aware of their mission and had enough time to prepare for this mission and they got the result they needed as suggested by you.

And the refusal of an international probe when the whole world demands such inquiry.

You still didn’t reply. Was the Israeli MP who told the truth against IDF a Hamas agent? How’s possible, she is from Israel, she can’t speak against IDf...its time you understand that it’s not about religion which you suggested but about bring peace in the world and getting rid of perceptions like holy land

I almost forgot, cookies, candy,cookies.

1. Their blockade is illegal.

You saying that doesn't make it so. You have cited noting relevant to that end

2. They started firing at a civilian ship in international waters which is a violation of international law (maritimes).

Again, you saying it doesn't make it so. In fact, since it was by definition a legally constituted blockade, they could have sunk the ship...

3. IDF was aware of their mission and had enough time to prepare for this mission and they got the result they needed as suggested by you.

And so?

And the refusal of an international probe when the whole world demands such inquiry.

The Whole World? ...

You still didn’t reply. Was the Israeli MP who told the truth against IDF a Hamas agent?

I haven't heard what was said nor did I see you quote it.

How’s possible, she is from Israel, she can’t speak against IDf...its time you understand that it’s not about religion which you suggested but about bring peace in the world and getting rid of perceptions like holy land

Could you rephrase that once your lithium kicks in? Thanks...

I almost forgot, cookies, candy,cookies.

Yes I imagine it's time for your Nana to bring you a snack...
