Though I don't agree with his policies and many times likened him to a used car salesman, this obviously sucks. I wish him good luck and hope he gets well soon.

The article doesn't say anyting in particular, but I just recieved an email from CBC breaking news saying it's prostate cancer.

I suppose then the announcement is to explain why he will be getting treatment in the US...

We already have one of the finest and best cancer treatment centres in the world, just down the road from Queens Park.

But the line ups are shorter in Seatle and the VIP rooms come with very attractive staff.

....and the olympics are but a short flight away.

How the diagnosis will impact him will depend on the details of the illness. Many men who get this scary diagnosis are not significantly impacted and can get treatments to cure them. Hopefully he's go a very treatable case of prostate cancer. Considering that he has decided not to step down, I'd assume that the prognosis is relatively good, all things considered - well, as good as being diagnosed with prostate cancer can be. He's not an old guy and he looks healthy!

I can't stand Jack's politics but I hope he'll be alright. I'm sure other folks in here have been affected by this cancer in one way or another, it's a pretty common illness among middle aged men in Canada.

Didn't mentiona anything about the valet service.

So little over 80% are treated (on target) with 28 days from the consult, to the referal in Toronto....

Can Canadian Working Families wait that long for Jack to be saved?

I say no. He shopuld immediately be sent to the luxary cancer treatment facilities in Switzerland.

Socialism demands this sacrifice.

You know, the strident tone is a lot more fun to read when the health of a real person isn't in jeopardy. You have seen tragedy too, we all have, and I would think that you would want a higher tone for you and yours in a similar situation. This is me wagging my finger at you, hoping that you find it annoying.

I read that Layton's Dad had prostrate cancer too, and beat it, so hopefully he will too. I'm sure his father must be a source of inspiration for him.

How long have you known me?

10 to 1 Jack sat with the people who matter most in this, the strategists.

They said to him, I imagine, with actuarial precision, the effects on the public mood on Jack having testicular cancer (|Consider lance armstrong! they chirped) skin cancer and so one.

And 10 to 1 Jack is making a play for the sympathy vote....

I admire people who, upon learning that they suffer from cancer, continue to do what they have always done. (I also admire people, upon learning that they have won the lottery, also continue to do what they have always done.)

Then again, when it comes to politicians, I think it's better if they don't like their jobs too much.

Whatever you think of Layton, I think, for the NDP, having him resign at this juncture would be an absolute disaster for them. He's as annoying as a human being can be, but he's significantly better than the last couple of leaders they had.
