Town Hall Talk: Republican Trio Wary of Reform's Price Tag; Democrat Concerned About Public Option Plan

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitol-b...uri_gets_m.html

I think that ever country should have government funded healthcare. It needs to happen soon and is long overdue imo. No person should die as a result of no health insurance, it's disgusting and needs to be changed. Healthcare is a primary need that should be looked after no matter the cost. You cannot put a price tag on the life of a countries citizens and people that do should be ashamed of themselves.

In the US the insurance companies are making billions of dollars by refusing treatments that should be covered. This needs to stop immediately.

Universal health care is a necessity of life. Those countries who refuse should be charged under a UN tribunal for crimes against humanity.

Disgusting.

The funny thing is .... Medicare IS government 'socialized medicine'. So complaining about government run health care is quite retarded when you already have government run health care.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicare_(United_States)

Medicare is a social insurance program administered by the United States government, providing health insurance coverage to people who are aged 65 and over, or who meet other special criteria. The medicare program also funds residency training programs for the vast majority of physicians in the United States. Medicare operates as a single-payer health care system.[1] The Social Security Act of 1965 was passed by Congress in late-spring of 1965 and signed into law on July 30, 1965, by President Lyndon B. Johnson as amendments to Social Security legislation. At the bill-signing ceremony President Johnson enrolled former President Harry S. Truman as the first Medicare beneficiary and presented him with the first Medicare card.[2]

And to be clear this is not the same as Medicade http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicaid.

Medicaid is the United States health program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and resources. It is a means-tested program that is jointly funded by the states and federal government, and is managed by the states.[1] Among the groups of people served by Medicaid are certain eligible U.S. citizens and resident aliens, including low-income adults and their children, and people with certain disabilities. Poverty alone does not necessarily qualify an individual for Medicaid.[2] It is estimated that approximately 60 percent of poor Americans are not covered by Medicaid.[3] Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical and health-related services for people with limited income in the United States. Because of the aging Baby Boomer population, the fastest growing aspect of Medicaid is nursing home coverage.

The difference between them it seems is that Medicade is both state and federal. Medicare is only federal.

On a lighter note. I have had the pleasure of knowing socialized medicine. He is one hell of a TF2 player

In Team Fortress, health care is free.

That's ridiculous. Universal healthcare (somebody else paying for your care) is not a right, it's a privilege. Sure, there are things that are necessary, like assisting catastrophic medical issues that arise. However, there are also things that private healthcare can provide better and less expensive. And the countries with the best healthcare seem to be hybrid systems, which allow for public and private coverage.

And for the love of God, please keep the United Nations out of the way democracies decide to run their countries. That may be the worst suggestion I've ever heard uttered in this forum.

No, it's not "retarded" at all. Medicare is 34 trillion dollars in the hole. So complaining about a government run system that is monumentally bankrupt, is completely logical.

I don't think you get it.

You don't see the brain cramp that that is the following : People are complaining about initializing a gov run health care system, when most do not understand that there is already one in place. Sure it may be run like crap, but it is still government health care. So the real debate should be how to improve the current system to help more people at the same time. Socialized medicine already exists in the US. Why are you failing to understand this?

Up here in the Great White North, we do have government run health care, and we also have employers paying for extra coverage for health care (like dental, glasses, pay for presctriptions ect ect). So it is a two pronged system and one that seems to work quite well. This seems to be the model that the US government wants to go forward on.

The USA has a single payer system for the elderly, disabled, and vulnerable. It dwarfs anything in Canada...but it is not the only game in town. Providers can refuse new Medicare/Medicaid patients.

False....Canada has a universal access, single payer insurance system for designated procedures. The US will not adopt such a system.

I think Obama should have gone for the 40 million who don't have healthcare and said to the rest of the nation, if you want, fine if not that okay too. I think people would come around to the universe way once they see what coverage the plan has and what coverage they have with their HMO's. I really think the HMO's are behind a lot of this anger and of course all those who have invested their money into healthcare sector.

Healthcare in the USA is about 15% of total GDP......and is already highly regulated and integrated into government programs. Obama made some mistakes while trying to specifically avoid the missteps that doomed Clinton's efforts in the early 90's. First Rule: don't threaten Medicare funding, ironically an existing single payer system with broad support by voting seniors.

Obama Supporter Bits Off Protester's Finger

O'Hanlon says the man got into an argument and fist fight, during which he bit off the left pinky of a 65-year-old man who opposed health care reform.

AP

Orrrrr we can say Teabagger punches pro-health care reformer in the face and ends up getting his figure bit off in self defense.

The man in the orange shirt hit the pro-reform guy (I'm going to call him PR Guy just to keep the players straight). Hard. ... He punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground and into that thruway. ... He got up, tried to get back up on the curb, but Orange Shirt guy was in his face. Finger in his face, PR Guy standing, steps up to the curb, and there's a scuffle. Orange shirt seemed to have PR Guy in a hold, but again, I was across the street, so won't state that as absolute fact. Next thing I see is PR Guy's hat being tossed into the street, both yelling at one another, then Orange shirt walks away, PR Guy picks up hat and crosses to our side.

Of course, I link to Associated Press, you link to Huffington Post. What, was the Daily Kos not available?

Yep you linked a news report from the man who punched another man then got his finger bit off. I linked to a news report from a eye witness not involved in the fight.

Hmmmmmm who is to be trusted eye witness, or guy who punched another guy in the face unprovoked.

Yah can you believe they actually called the police and asked for a statement?

Yep, and the police are on the hunt for the rabid Obama supporter. Believe it or not, but there's a slight difference in the law between to people getting into a fist fight, and someone biting another person's finger off.

You've had quite the productive day today haven't you? You've continued to defend a communist truther who believes his government allowed 911 to happen, and you've defended somebody who actually bit off another person's finger.
