Colonel Russell Williams
Moonlight Graham replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This "Dan" was a bad person because he was a transsexual/cross-dresser? Ok... -
True. One of the main problems with capital punishment as an actual punishment is that it does nothing to make the criminal pay back his debt to society. It's far better to have a killer serve life in jail and work his nails to the bone on behalf of the state (ie: digging ditches all day etc.) to pay back some of his debt. Killing him solves nothing, and if the criminal is doing tedious manual labour every day & has a cell with few luxuries he/she would probably rather be dead.

Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
Moonlight Graham replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I hope Harper brings Khadr hope and into a Canadian prison if/when he gets sentenced. He'll apparently be in a Gitmo jail if he's not. Even if he's guilty he doesn't deserve that b.s. Harper's a real racist a-hole for not wanting to repatriate Khadr if he's convicted. If he were a white lad he'd be home in 2 seconds. -

Iran Admits It Could Pull Nuke Trigger on US, Israel

I'd say "geez you had me over for dinner just to crap on me??" Then I'd take my dessert and leave. -
Iran Admits It Could Pull Nuke Trigger on US, Israel
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
Well for one, Ahmadinejad never said that. You are referring with the remark that Israel should be "wiped off the map", which was mistranslated in the western MSM. the more accurate translation was that israel should "vanish from the pages of time". a bit less aggressive. But no i wouldn't be enthralled if the US sec of state said what you remarked. However, i wouldn't give much of a rats behind because what are you gonna do? Nuke us? wahahahaa! You certainly wouldn't do it if we had nukes. -
Iran Admits It Could Pull Nuke Trigger on US, Israel
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
There is a huge difference in saying things and doing things. What actions has Ahmadinejad done on the international scene that is so "irrational"? Has he shot missiles into any countries lately? And does he show signs of wanting to kill himself, as would be his fate if he launched any nukes? Does he drive on the wrong side of the road? Slash his jugular while he shaves in the morning? He says some controversial things, like denying the Holocaust and other possibly anti-Semitic remarks. Big deal. Him saying that Israel should "vanish from the pages of time" isn't exactly a call for war or any kind of logical means to think Iran is going to launch nukes at them, or any kind of military attack against them. Besides, he is only part of the political power structure of that country. -
Iran Admits It Could Pull Nuke Trigger on US, Israel
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
I agree with this assessment. However, i think another primary reason for Iran wanting nukes is for self-defense against western aggression. The west has invaded the 2 states flanking Iran (Iraq and Afghanistan), so why wouldn't Iran want to protect itself against future aggression? It also sees its regional enemy Israel having nukes, and thus a nuke deterrent is also favourable to even the power-game. As you stated, a nuclear first strike against Israel would be suicide, as would providing nukes to a terrorist organization if said nukes were to ever be traced back to Iran. Those that control Iran are not irrational, suicidal, martyring idiots. -
More democracy isn`t enough of a reason? The only thing i see as a problem is what some others have mentioned, that is people voting on matters they are not informed about and do not have the time to do so. One of the reasons we have elected officials to represent us is that the average working adult does not have the time to stay informed on all matters. That being said, there are so many dolts on the hill that would this even matter? Also, if this were implemented very few Canadians would be voting on a regular basis anyways. I think it might be better to keep our Parliament the way it is for most of the menial legislation but substantially increase the # of referendums on key issues so every Canadian would have a chance to vote.

Ignatieff unplugged and replugged
Moonlight Graham replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He's still a snot, but it was a very good ad. They are trying to sell him & make him more likeable, and this does that a bit. -
McCartney has barely done jack all of anything great since The Beatles. He's a had a few hits, like Jet and Band on the Run, but Lennon whooped his butt in the 10 years or so he was alive after the Beatles compared to the 40 years Paul has had.

Rxactly. Your post pretty much sums up it up.

You think that's is torture? It's a victory dance. Much better than a victory slap or a victory rape or a victory naked human pyramid. But overall an unwise/unprofessional display.

Ontario to scrap eco-fees
Moonlight Graham replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Dalton was an idiot to plan an in-your-face tax on items that even showed up on my receipt: eco-tax fee: $2.85!! Yay me so happy! If he was smart he would have slipped it through the back door somehow. Charge it to the businesses, who would have then passed it on to the consumer. -
Bush Pulling Even With Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What % of Americans even know what TARP is? If you polled Americans whether it was Bush or Obama who signed the "bailout" into law, how many would know? The average citizen in our neck of the wood knows jack. People are just PO'd with the economy the issues of the day. You can't blame Bush or Obama completely for the crash & recovery, respectively, though you also can't say they don't hold some responsibility for it. Same with Congress. -
Canadian Seat on U.N. Security Council
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Do you realize that permanent members can't use their veto power on particular UNSC votes. They may not be the most important votes, but being a non-permanent member on the council still wields power. -
Canadian Seat on U.N. Security Council
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes it is Harper's foreign policy that made us lose the seat. But why do you include all these things, yet deny the Harper gov's pro-Israel policies/stances is part of this same foreign policy? You do realize that Muslim countries also have a vote, and have some solidarity at that. All of these things, good or bad, are a part of Harper's foreign policy, which was unquestionably the main factor of why Canada lost the seat. It would be no different had they won. -
Bush Pulling Even With Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Wow, Americans sure have a short-term memory. Obama's stimulus package has overall been mostly a failure and he has continued some of the inane policies of Bush, but anyone with half a brain can see he's better than Mr. trainwreck. I guess people forget Bush was the guy who presided over the economic collapse in the first place. -
Rick Sanchez was horrible. But why did they put him on at 8pm??? I wish to thank CNN for removing him from my television screen.

New Group wants to talk about immigration reform
Moonlight Graham replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sometimes the NDP just need to shut their lips. This country needs immigration reform. Immigration can certainly be an outside threat. If you bring in criminals, people with communicable diseases, people with health problems that will cost taxpayers money & clog the healthcare system. or people will poor skills/education who are just going to suck the system and cost taxpayers more money than the value they add to our country, then that is a threat. It is a threat to, among other things, the health, economy, and overall quality of this country. -
Mid-Term Elections 2010: The Latest
Moonlight Graham replied to sharkman's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
To be fair, Obama doesn't straight-out refer to "slavery". He said "great struggles for equal rights and civil rights." Many things fall under that category, including women's rights, gay rights, and black civil rights that had nothing to do with slavery (ie: black rights movements in the 20thC). But i do think part of what Obama is implying with that statement is indeed black rights/slavery. -
You may not agree that Israel should exist as a state, which is fine, but by the definition of the term "state", Israel meets every criteria and it is without a doubt a "state". Here's a decent definition of a "state" in an international political sense: "The state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications: (a) a permanent population; ( a defined territory; © government; and (d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states." Most definitions of a "state" also often include that a state must posses a monopoly over the legitimate use of force (violence), and that the state is a sovereign entity where its sovereignty is recognized in the international system.
