Ignatieff inner circle shrinks, 2 more aides depart
madmax replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hurray for another group of patronage appointment clowns. 3 Cheers for Diane Finleys husband. 3 cheers for Conservative Hacks. 3 cheers for no integrity, no honesty, and pure political partisan bloodsport. All hail Conservative Patronage.... Way to derail a thread. You always find a way to give the LPC a way out. If we are going to cheer for the Conservatives.... heres a good chorus to chime in on. How about that Harper Sales Tax. -
Detainees - now that its clear as mud

Depends on who they were, who their family members were, how much bribe money was available. The Taliban use the same Pashtunwali code as the current government. In a nutshell no you are 100% wrong. The treatment of prisoners by Afghans hasn't changed and won't change. Stop the silly comparisons. We knew full well what would happen to prisoners. Plenty of evidence and plenty of history to draw from. This time, shit is going uphill and it won't get pinned on our soldiers. -

Ignatieff inner circle shrinks, 2 more aides depart

It depends on how much criminal element remains in the Quebec wing of the LPC. I would like to believe that the criminal behaviour has been crippled. The Party is falling like a stone in Quebec. Ignatieff is now rated LAST among all leaders in Quebec. I don't have the details, I will put them in the polling thread when found. -

I prefer that vs thinking he became ill, which I did. Its not the same without him. -
Actually, their not. Which is the problem. You should be thinking about these things if you give a shit or believe in that it is not good for the environment, which it isn't. However, as the Most political parties have turned the environment into tax policy, the new game is who pays the tax. Not what is cut. BTW, that's no dodge above. Same groups of elitists showing up. And most political dignitaries use this mode of travel, an airplane to cross the ocean, and a limo to get to an event. Our Prime Minister will be doing the same IIRC. Forward your message to the Canadian Delegates, including the Prime Minister. I am sure he's been called that before.

I was with you until that last line. The WTO and IMF are not out to better anyones lives, and the monetary policies imposed by the IMF have totally screwed up entire countries. The WTO IMF version of properity is called South America, where corporations run everything and corruption is in abundance. The WTO and IMF have no interest in bettering the lives of ordinary people, they don't travel in the circles of ordinary people. That isn't their mandate.

An 8% Ripoff Not normally does the Toronto Sun give the NDP free reign, not even on a Sunday. The Papers were very much against the HST until Newspapers were taken off the list, then a huge wave of pro HST articles came out. Surprise. So for the Sun to continue with this populist approach is interesting. Perhaps because the Sun supports the Provincial Tories against the HST as well. It appears the NDP are sinking their teeth in.

Iggy will run and lose the next election. The LPC will rebuild with a new person and the LPC will not be stupid enough to choose a turkey like Bob Rae. The question isn't if the LPC will lose, but how badly. Last years election numbers are no fluke. Harper is stronger more competent and less petty, but unfortuneately no one can trust the Prime Minister off his leash. I see the HST as a defining issue in two of the largest Provinces. That shuts out the LPC and leaves the CPC and NDP to figure out what people deserve and whether government knows bests, trumps the 80% of Public Opinion. THe LPC ship isn't sinking. Its oarless and without an engine. -
MPs absent from yesterday's HST vote
madmax replied to robert_viera's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The MPs are afraid of HST backlash in Ontario and BC. And they were afraid to vote. Expose them for the frauds they are, then let the public decide. -
Michaëlle Jean: Will she have another term?
madmax replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Michaelle Jean Stays. The last thing the CPC need is a best selling tell all book from a GG who followed through for the PM. -

MPs absent from yesterday's HST vote
madmax replied to robert_viera's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Many of the LPC and CPC MPs were present, just missed the vote. Harper made certain the vote came when he was far far away. I don't believe any NDP or BQ MPs missed the vote whom were present earlier that day. -
Interesting you suggest that. The HST was the BST. Of course the BST was reversed by new coming NDP Premier Romanov. The Chretian era created a package deal for the atlantic provinces and thus the HST. However, this particular brand of HST has Harpers stamp of approval. A special side deal with the BQ secured the HST Federal support. Quebec gets to keep the HST monies and send in the difference to the feds. No other Province will "Harmonize" in this fashion. To get this gift from the Conservatives, the BQ had to support the Conservative HST proposal upon Ontario and BC. The Conservative $4.3 Billion in Ontario puts Harpers stamp on this. While I believe the thread both here and in the Federal Forum are long of tooth, I think the Provincial title is still valid. In the meantime, what I see happening is that the HST is actually picking up steam in the publics eye, while many of us have moved on. I think its had its fair share of discussion on MLW, but I will continue to update on any new developments both Federal and Provincial. It seems the public is just starting to get aware of the deal and who is behind it. Should be fun to watch the spin doctors come out and work an audience that is 75% opposed in Ontario and 80% opposed in BC. I don't know how to bring the Federal Liberals into the thread title to make it more valid. Guilt by association is about it and I don't think the Federal Liberals have any appeal among the voting public. Individual LPC MPs will be circling the wagons come voting time.

In this case, words speak louder then actions. Here is Hudaks FIRST DAY on the JOB. The wrong foot

WB Logical, makes sense to me. Even if I don't support first strike, fact is, when wars are started, someone has to strike first.

Federally, the NDP are now poised to gain a few more seats in Ontario. They are already at a record numer of seats in Ontario. If you asked me 6 months ago, the chances of the NDP holding onto all their Ontario seats, I'd start laughing. Now, its serious, they will gain some seats. Provincially, still an uphill battle. The Ontario NDP never changed their name like other parties that have created credibility issues. The Rae effect is getting distant, and the NDP have a leader that is gaining more credibility then the new PC leader Hudak. But, many people are just as disenchanted with the Liberals and may turn to the PCs just because. The Ontario NDP have their work cut out for them. However, I see a minority government in Ontario in 2 years. The NDP are helping the NDP because they are consistent from Province to Province and Federally. The NDP doesn't support regressive taxes. People understand that Tax Breaks are going to Tim Hortons and more taxes shifted onto the public who eat there.

The was an agreement between the Conservatives and the Liberals to move the vote up 15 minutes, and surprise, many of the LPC and CPC MPs in BC missed the vote through not fault of their own.

Focused or Poetic? LOL.

This thread is about China. Both are communist countries. In China the Military belongs to the Communist Party, not the country. Remember that. China is a country that can supplant us as the US biggest trading partner and the see saw continues. Likely they will remain on top. Thanks for ignoring the elephant in the room, and being fixated on that spec of dirt in the far corner.

Don't hold back, you're on a roll To follow up on your slave labour comments. 45,000 workers are killed on the job every 3 months. That is 180,000 workers die so that we can have cheap consumer goods. Life is cheaper then the goods we purchase. Who knows how many limbs are lost and injuries sustained?

LOLThe Ontario NDP made flyers with coffee cups and newspapers and a few other items. These flyers were so effective and highlighting just that fact. That people would get reminded with each Tims, who was responsible for the tax. The Ontario Liberals after months of abuse, backed off on Coffee, Donuts, and newspapers, because they had the most populist appeal to create anger. The Ontario Liberals beleive this is effective damage control. In the meantime, Is BC going to tax Coffee and Donuts and TEA? I hear HSTea parties are gathering steam. The HST may come, but the governments will go. That said, Keith Martin is so scared about losing his seat, he is trying to save his own ass rather then the public who will pay the price. Fact is, both Parties Martin has belonged to, support the HST. This is a person with nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Will he risk becoming an independant once again?

While I share your concerns, I would rather see the Prime Minister engaged with the Chinese to voice them, rather then ignore one of the largest countries in the world for 5 years. Dialogue and diplomacy first. Regardless, better late then never.
