I think its time to change the title to Harper Government: Status Quo
-
Acid in Little girls faces and womens faces is a horrific practice used by men in tthose cultures, and not exclusive to the Taliban. I have little reason to believe that Al Qaeda use that practice as it is not common in indonesia, yemen, saudi arabia, etc. as far as I know. It is known to happen in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kashmir, India. The comments going back and for are rediculous from Nazi Comparisons to over the top hyperboyle of those our troops are engaged with. The problem lies with the culture of the country and our troops aren't going to change that, and certainly we don't expect to be there 100 or 1000 years for it to happen. Meanwhile, I think Harper has just taken 2 steps back

Oh look the weakest Conservative talking points are on all the forums and blogs. Are we to expect Harper to break the LPC #? OR more importantly, is this holiday justified or excuseable to the public who have mainly been apathetic? I think the free lunch is coming to an end and those visions of CPC majority will be status quo short a seat or 3.

Skin a little thin? The Conservatives are behaving like Liberals on Steroids. Propoganda? Give me a break. One thing is certain and that is people of all political stripes are not impressed by Proroguing of Parliment. While you may be comfortable with it, I doubt you were when the Liberals did it. Regardless the current governments use of proroguing can be argued as undemocratic. If you disagree with that premise, there is no doubt that the Harper government looks lazy and unwilling to go to work. Nice long breaks, extended Christmas holidays, enjoying the Olympics, while the rest of Canadians go to work and pay taxes. Those things that Canadians will be paying while Harper and his gang sit on their arses and clap like trained seals. I already know some MPs that are becoming nervous nellies because some of their members in the riding association are openly opposed to proroguation. The don't like facing the crew at the coffee shop. So.... Call it propoganda. But the fact is, 25% of CPC supporters opposed prorogation before christmas. I imagine that will go higher as the months of holidays continue.

First Poll of the New year that I have found. Its Ekos, and I don't put alot of faith in the methodology. But here it is. Conservatives: 33.1 (-2.8) Liberals: 27.8 (+1.1) NDP: 16.0 (-1.0) Green: 13.4 (+2.2) Bloc Quebecois*: 9.8 (+0.6) Undecided: 14.7 British Columbia (MoE 7.32) Conservatives: 34.2 (-0.8) NDP: 25.9 (-2.9) Liberals: 21.4 (-2.2) Green: 18.5 (+6.2) Alberta (MoE 8.95) Conservatives: 61.7 (+1.0) Liberals: 15.0 (+1.1) Green: 13.2 (-1.9) NDP: 10.0 (-0.4) Saskatchewan/Manitoba (MoE 11.55) Conservatives: 48.6 (-4.5) NDP: 27.3 (+6.8) Liberals: 12.4 (-5.2) Green: 11.7 (+2.9) Ontario (MoE 3.91) Liberals: 36.0 (+2.5) Conservatives: 35.4 (-3.6) Green: 14.3 (+1.6) NDP: 14.2 (-0.6) Quebec (MoE 4.85) Bloc Quebecois: 38.2 (+1.4) Liberals: 27.5 (+2.9) Conservatives: 14.6 (-2.7) Green: 10.2 (+1.5) NDP: 9.6 (-3.2) Atlantic Canada (10.82) Conservatives: 32.6 (-2.6) Liberals: 28.4 (-2.8) NDP: 27.2 (+0.3) Green: 11.8 (+5.1) http://www.cbc.ca/politics/insidepolitics/2010/01/orders-ekos-of-the-day-010709-33127816013498.html

2 PC MLA's defect to Wildrose Alliance
madmax replied to Jerry J. Fortin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Then they should step down and have a By Election. People who worked on their campaigns weren't from the Wildrose. People who donated to their campaign weren't from the Wildrose. However, as we have seen that Reform principle doesn't appear to have any merit with the Wildrose, anymore then it had with the Harper Conservatives. As for the fact that the Wildrose has no platform it is an easy default party as people can make it appear whatever they think. Not saying that this is a bad thing. Just stating the obvious. -
The Parties have to get past a photo op and set forth an agenda during the months that the Conservatives are enjoying good times, good pay and photo ops in their ridings. I don't think it will be lost upon anyone that while these CPC MPs stand in front of cheques and get their pictures taken or run around to various orgs glad handing, that any monkey can go an visit people for $155,000+++ . That's an easy paycheck. All play no work. The government seems to believe that Canadians won't miss parliment. So, why not disband it permanently or maybe move it to China where Harper likes to make Economic Announcements on the state of the Canadian Economy. I am certain we can farm out their jobs for $600 a month and many people are capable of smiling in front of a Camera. I sense a rough ride ahead and expect CPC MPs on the verge of being toppled to have a stream of MPs from Secure ridings come in to shore up support. This is going to cost the CPC a handful of seats and move them another step away from Majority. One of the few times I have heard many outspoken CPC supporters go silent as they are not in favour of this proroguing. I sense they will stay home in the next election. The usual number of CPC lapdogs where the government can do no wrong can write in Letters to Editors, skew forums and online news, but it can't change what I am just starting to hear at the coffee shops. To put into perspective. Average Joe is not impressed. Speaking of which. Kimmy makes a good point about the thread title. What on earth was the author of this title thinking? The National Posts Headline is more accurate and reflects what I hear on the street. Ignatieff will call Liberals back to work on Jan. 25 Which leads us back to the beginning? Why?

Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
madmax replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It was the governments fear for being replaced that created a constitutional crises. The bill was delayed and the public funding taken off the table. The bill was delayed again when it became apparent that taking public funding off the table was too late to stop the train that left the station. Seeing that Harper overplayed his hand, his leadership at risk and the Conservative government no longer a sure thing, that Mr Harper created the constitutional crises. Regardless of how the Prime Minister got himself into the mess, he got himself out of it and created the "Constitutional Crises" which came and went. So easy was it to prorogue parliment and appoint Senators without blowback, that the Prime Minister has taken it upon himself to repeat the procedure. I think once again, the Prime Minister has been to clever by half and this time, there isn't a bogeyman to turn public opinion against. Not yet anyways. Thus, reading a poll that states public apathy towards government heading into Christmas, should parliment be prorogued as a hypothetical question, is very different from Proroguing parliment after Christmas. It is no longer hypothetical and people are going to be paying attention as their Christmas bills come in and the government is on extended holidays. -
Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
madmax replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And it is well within our rights to vote out CPC MPs for their lack of work ethic and desire to extend their Christmas Holidays from Mid December 2009 until March 2010. CLM. Career Limiting Move. -
Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
madmax replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
1) I don't vote in my own polls. 2) I don't like to expose my votes on other polls... But just for you 1) Prorogue= Yes 2) King = Yes Yes, early on I put Harper as King and he is fullfilling the role. Thus, I have offered our King or our Queen to the Americans in this thread as we don't need two, but they don't want another Monarchy. So, lump me in with Argus, August and Alta... if that is your best guess. But beware, I am the only one in that list who's handle doesn't start with an "A". So I figure you were just going down the Alphabet -
Lots of praise for someone who just booked off for the 1st quarter of 2010.

Which means that the government is still involved and their is an illusion of privatization in Alberta. IIRC Liquor is the same price across Ontario even in the North where a Bag of 4 Ltr Milk can cost between $9 and $17. Regardless, the privatization model doesn't have alot of steam.

It appears we are going to have TWO if Harper keeps this up. Would you like one? Male or Female? Oh wait, you already had one once. Great idea. We wouldn't need a GG then either. -

Why did the Conservative Party Apply for a GST Rebate?
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
thanks for the links and sorting through the articles. Very helpful. I am curious to know if anyone has knowledge if the BQ applied for the GST rebate as well or any other party for that matter. I am not well versed in the elections act. I also wonder if a party that didn't qualify for the Election Act rebates... I believe its based on the % of popular vote in a riding (correct me if I am wrong) would that party be able for GST rebate? -
My point exactly. Whenever one goes down the Nazi road, its trollbait. Just doing some DA.

Your best post by far.

Ok Strange piece of nonsense going on in the Conservative Strategy Room. 1) Apply for the GST rebate 2) Take Elections Canada to Court to give the GST rebate amount back to Elections Canada. 3) Why the hell did they apply for it in the first place? It seems that Two political parties have been double dipping and probably for quite some time. Filing for Election Canada rebates and GST rebates on the same expenses. From the Column on CTV news, the NDP has never applied for a GST rebate. Why try to get back your expenses twice? Its almost sounds immoral. But we are dealing with political parties. The Skinny I get, is that the CPC and the LPC have been abusing this loophole. The CPC no longer figure they needed to doubledip and wanted to score some cheap points on the LPC who apparently continue to double dip into the rebates. But what does it say about these political parties that they are into the taxpayers pockets with both hands? If the CPC weren't sitting on mounds of Cash would they be giving back money? How long have the CPC been double dipping? The NDP doesn't sit on mounds of cash and apparently never apply for a 2nd rebate on the same expenses. Why would the CPC take money from the tax payer on purpose twice and then use the court time to give it back? How much did this shell game cost the taxpayer from start to finish? Why play such a game with taxpayers monies? I think it was because Harper wanted to come clean before the 2008 election he was about to call and was worried that this double dipping might get exposed. But why are the LPC continuing to double dip? http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20100101/Tories_Rebates_100101/20100101?hub=QPeriod

You lost me.... NAZI ERA??? Here is the RIGHTY: CONSERVATIVE POLITICIAN and PRIME MINISTER of the Britain "Neville Chamberlain, born Arthur Neville Chamberlain (18 March 1869 – 9 November 1940) was a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1937 to 1940. Chamberlain is best known for his appeasement foreign policy, and in particular for his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany. When Hitler continued his aggression, Britain declared war on Germany on 3 September 1939, and Chamberlain led Britain through the first eight months of World War II." Here is a LEFTY: TC DOUGLAS Cooperative Commonwealth Federation. “Once more let me remind you what fascism is. It need not wear a brown shirt or a green shirt -- it may even wear a dress shirt. Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege." Now compare that last comment into context with the current governments repetitive nature to prorogue parliment. Is this the first step?

That turned out good. Now that you completely blew your position lets hope the government answer isn't as ridiculous as the above comment. -
There aren't any polls for 2010 yet. But within a week we will see some. I have created this thread for the new polls.

Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?
madmax replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
hmm...Every Province did the same. Welfare 1995 to 2005 NfLD: 71,300: 48,500 PEI 12400 : 6,900 NS 104000 : 52300 NB 67400 : 45300 Que 802200 : 518200 Ont 1344600 : 676500 Man 85200 : 60900 Sask 82200 : 48700 Alb 113200 : 56400 BC 374300 : 149300 Yukon 2100 : 1100 NWT 12000 : 1900 Nunavut* 7300 (2000) : 13800 (2005) Now, back to Stephen Harper being a quitter strike #3 Strike One: Harper quits in Sept. 2008, decides he doesn't like his working conditions and calls and election. Strike Two: Harper quits again in late November 2008. Doesn't like his working conditions and calls for parliment to be prorogued. Spends his free time appointing Senate Hacks. Strike Three: Harper quits in December 2009. Doesn't like his working conditions. Wants more holiday time and to enjoy the olympics. Doesn't like questions about Afghanistan, Torture, and the Deficit. Uses up his working time, travelling and appointing Senate Hacks. Hard work is done and he wants to have more paid holidays & photo ops for his Mps No doubt about it. Harper supports the strike. Strike 3, your out. -
