I never doubted there would be a deal when I read this article. It was a perfect set of circumstances, circumstances that exists in 99.9% of all collective bargaining.

The term he should be using in your example is oligopoly.

Ignatieff inner circle shrinks, 2 more aides depart
madmax replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not dead. But when one accepts a knife in the back as an acceptable practice to attain power, then one should expect to be knifed in the back at some point in time. Iggy, just got served.OUCH. -
Are you sure your figures are correct? This plant only has 120 Unionized employees, and likely a similar level of office staff. I would be hard pressed to believe it is doing $1.1 Billion in Profits locally. Unfortuneately the article gives overall figures of $7.3 Billion.

Sales Tax/HST/GST - Other People's Money
madmax replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In Ontario, GST (Soon to be 13%) HSTwill be added onto items that were previously exempt. Such as Used Cars sold privately. -
That will make the basis of this case. We will see if the crown prevails or not. My interest has been around since 05, but I generally lurk around these threads. Pity does not exist for any of the players nor should their be any. My focus is that the government(S) get off its ass and do something so that things aren't left in the hands of individual renegades and protesters trying to find justice and social justice while the government goes awol.

I don't care about their character. I don't care if they were provocative. Did the police provide them the security they needed to get to in and out of their home?

LOL The Liberals got the NDP wingnuts already. There known as Rae and Dosanjh. Two of the biggest failures in electoral politics. The Non Wingnuts appear to get elected and re elected and remain in the NDP.

The Conservative Bribe is quite substantial. It is a Conservative supported tax. The Conservative government will benefit. The Harper Sales Tax will increase costs upon the individual. I see no difference between the LPC and CPC position. The CPC want the public to believe they have nothing to do with it, which is not the case. And I leave you with those last words, as I can't speak for BC and have to take your word for it.
-
And less want a Liberal Government. Thus making it the best choice to form a government.

Duceppe wasn't listed in the link. Perhaps its a National Question thus he is excluded. Similarly wrong or questionable about the poll is the part, which political party best represents your Province. The BQ faired poorly in Quebec? Something wrong with that outcome. As has been discussed at length. It is the LPC that are in trouble and the beneficiary is the CPC. In Ontario, the LPC have dropped to 29%. The NDP numbers do not change when the LPC numbers fall. The myth is that there is a generic LPC swing voter that votes NDP when the LPC are not desired. Even my straw MLW poll beared similar fruit, that when given the choice of not voting LPC, the vast majority choose CPC as 2nd choice. Thus when the LPC fall the CPC benefit. If only because the LPC voter stays home let alone switch parties. Battles for government are between tweedle dee and tweedle dum. The loser is the opposition waiting for a chance to return to government. What you are suggesting is that the NDP fight a stereotype. Even if they did, you wouldn't vote for them, nor would alot of other voters. The NDP has a broader role today, being that there is no Reform in Parliment. This party must take on roles that the Official opposition won't. This leaves some room to manuever in terms of various non traditional roles in Taxation, Fiscal policy as well as the traditional NDP areas of social justice, health care, pensions and such. None of which will give the party anymore votes but does enhance political dialogue and debate. In the meantime, the polls are showing one distinct trend. The LPC are in trouble.

And why not? I don't care if these people are full blown lunatics. Its quite possible they are unstable people. However, my view is that unstable people living next to an area of dispute, one that it is virtually impossible for them to avoid because of location should receive compensation. These people might be the nightmare neighbour no one ever wants next door. Just because people are crazy, come home drunk and have to pass through a protest line, act irrationally and shoot holes in their ceilins is no reason not compensate them. Similar irrational behaviour existed on the other side too. I just saw a video while googling. There is definitely some issues with this couple. But I find that the government is using a blame the victim mentality. Henco used the protest as an opportunity to cash in. The municipal government used the protest as an opportunity to cash in. What is wrong with a couple of people who live next door to the situation bellying up to the trough? I believe there will be some sympathy for these people. Pay them off.... Then Argus can appreciate his new neighbours

I haven't blown off anyone. Don't confuse me with the Federal and Provincial Government. Last few times I was in the area there was one person on the DCE. Don't be fooled by this Shooting a hole in your ceiling is not a positive way to achieve credibility in the court system. I empathize with all sides regarding the apathetic behaviour of our government (s).

I agree that it is nice to see Caledonia receiving attention. The CPC have stayed far far far away from this as has the Ontario Liberals. Considering that this is a Conservative held riding it is shameful that they stay away from Caledonia. Henco was quickly compensated. However, the question is about redress. One group waiting over a hundred years for an accounting. Another couple 1.6 years. Without heat the government will fail to act. Government and political parties like to move the heat onto the OPP. Bait and switch responsibility. There is plenty of blame, but the apathy of the Federal and Provincial government is disgraceful. Bottom line is the Government is ultimately responsible for the endgame. Locking people up isn't going to make a difference over the long run. Evidence in this thread shows that the government avoids talks. I went to one of these meetings on behalf of a firm and met Marie Trainer Mayor of Caledonia and later Toby Barrett. They are none too impressed. Perhaps most disturbing is that the Native groups show up with documents and documents and documents and documents and documents. The government shows up with a buffet table and writes deals on a napkin. Close to that. Scribbled offers in pencil with no accounting on how a figure was achieved. Bait and switch are considered good negotiating tactics, however, these tactics do not build trust. For some reason the Negotiator for the Federal Government was proud of this action boasting about it during a Chamber of Commerce presentation, while claiming the offer was substantial and fair. (Which it may have been although no accounting of how the figure was achieved exists). IIRC Native Groups have been holding town hall meetings for close to two years. Politicians tend to avoid these town hall meetings because after a document is disclosed to the public the townsfold want the politician to answer whether or not the document is valid. Its why they duck out. Now, how did this guy shoot a hole in his roof again???

It would go like this..... Flaherty would have implemented the HST if the Liberal Government would have given us $4.3 Billion dollars to bribe the electorate with. He always knew the public could be bougght and that is why he coughed up $4.3 Billion to Ontario. Before he took over as Federal Finance Minister, the books were running surpluses and there was no need to tax the public more. But now that he has totally screwed things up he has decided to join with like minded incompetents in the Province of Ontario. Our only way out of this deficit mess is to increase taxes on the people faced with jobless recovery.
-
The intent is to PREVENT the HST coming into being with a FEDERAL BRIBE. You have to do this PRIOR to the money being spent not after. By then it is too late the $4.3 billion is spent and the HST is enacted. The LPC are in opposition and they do not oppose this tax. Just as you do not oppose this tax. I have yet to hear a small business complaining to me personally on the PST in Ontario. But I am hearing alot more from them regarding the HST. It is a tax grab. Not for me. I will be paying more in taxes on more items. Can't wait to see the growth in the underground economy. That is a squabble between LPC and CPC. The CPC will be more then making up for it with the implementation of the HST in Ontario and BC. Giveth with one hand and taketh with another. I believe that is called "living in the bubble". There will be CPC MPs who will feel the heat and will not be able to duck this. The CPC saving grace is that the LPC will not be making waves over the issue. I see a rough road ahead for CPC MPs in BC. Possibly some in Ontario. It all depends upon the heat applied to the feet.
-
Yes it will be a windfall for the CPC government. We won't be seeing the CPC interfere on behalf of the consumer or "as Good Guys" LOL.

Here is a quote from part of the document I just received at my business. I have followed your link and will be replying in kind to said distributor.

Don't know to what you are referring? I never wanted the 7% since 1989. So why the hell do I want 13% vs the current 8%? You must be a Conservative Apologist. Mulroney Conservatives had those two. Then the Conservatives had TWO seats.

Some of us do. I am not alone in wanting a pony. But that was along time ago and he got away too many times. -
The Provincial NDP along with the hypocritical Provincial PCs are campaigning against this tax. With the PCs saying, "now is not the right time" and the NDP against it. But both are campaigning against it, so the Opposition in Ontario including the NDP aren't missing anything. The Federal NDP has seen who the puppeteer is. I am not here to argue with Toad Brother and Riverwind on the specifics of the HST be it good or bad. They are excellent defenders of the economic reasons why the tax is a "better tax". However, I also see it for what it is and who is behind it. There are many who argued that the GST was a better tax. It was also a TAX GRAB that was implemented by Conservatives. There are arguments good and bad for the HST. In a line similar to Jerry Fortin, it is my opinion that the rank and file taxpayer is going to take this tax the hardest. Regardless, FEDERAL CONSERVATIVES have put their stamp on this tax and given $4.3 BILLION REASONS why it should be implemented. People here shouldn't try to hide that LPC and CPC the Same HST Bed. Infact the CPC appear to like it even more then the LPC if thats possible. Take away the $4.3 Billion and the $1.5 Billions from the Federal Contribution.. Until the Conservative government take their hands off this issue it will be regarded as the Harper Sales Tax.

Its a Federal Tax Grab. There is no GST on many items but changes with the HST. I see it for exactly what it is. A HARMONIZED TAX GRAB with the Federal Government pulling a SArgent Shultz. "I KNOW NOTHING, NOOOTTHHINNG"
