Quite frankly, the NDP cannot create a "green" manufacturing sector without creating the same conditions that Sir John A MacDonald used to create an industrial sector. The NDP are aware of that fact. The CPC & LPC are not. Green Manufacturing is a buzz word much like green jobs. However, like any kind of manufacturing, it is driven by Global Capital and if Global capital wants to build the windmills in other countries then so be it. However, other countries, including the US have protectionist policies based around certain projects that give them the upper hand in attracting new industry. Green industry has been strong for over a decade and Canada has squat and is likely to miss the boat. Simple policies, like using tax payers monies for recycling tires in Canada vs subsidizing the US to recycle the tires is nationally/provincially smart business. Ontario has just changed the rules on subsidies and is drawing that industry back into Ontario with a simple, "you recycle here", to get the tax break and subsidies. If Ontario were to build something like Windmills, (lots of good manufacturing opportunity), the problem lies in other companies buying said windmill producer and relocating production. It doesn't matter what colour the manufacturing ... the choice of capital remains the same. However, any government can put hooks into the manufacturing sector and one hook is with a Green Agenda. No different then our protected sectors in Banking & Insurance, which are highly successful because they are protected.

The CPC may be at the top of the scale but the Ekos polls are the least reliable. I still see the CPC within the margin of error for a Majority. Problem with the Ekos poll is prompting and substanstial error of 50% on the Green Party polling figures.

People who make the olympics political lose sight of the spirit of the games. (All commercial/corporate activity aside). While many groups have protested the Olympics over the years, I have always felt it counter productive, including when the United States boycotted the games in the USSR for its invasion of Afghanistan to rid the country of radical Islamists. It was a very very very small group on Six Nations that made a big noise. That is the intent of protesting. To get news coverage and to some negative coverage is better then no coverage. The Conservative Federal Government is Absent and this is where I think the Message of the Protestors was lost. I find that all it does is tick people off, including others on Six Nations. Some here make it sound like this is the first time the Olympic Flame has ever encountered and obstacle along the way. The Torch is well on its way and this day will be long forgotten.

The horror, the horror. A tobacco factory located in the heartland of the tobacco belt. The federal government loves this cash cow as well as all the associated tobacco processors on Six Nations. The fact is that everyone laughed and said they wouldn't be competitive. When you purchase your smokes you best submit your taxes or else the government will come after you, not Six Nations. Many items on the reserve are sold tax free and its our obligation to declare, just like coming back from the US. Yes, Billions are involved. Don't get caught cheating our government for your pack of smokes. Its a $500 fine IIRC. Just like pulling up to the pumps. There is the Tax Free Pump and the Tax me GST soon to be Harper Sales Tax Pump. From our friendly neighbour to the south where Guns are distributed like Candy. Smuggling will become more popular with the HST for all sorts of other commercial goods. Conservative Gun Collectors take advantage of people who risk smugling guns across the border.

The never ending ongoing debate. Conservatives wanted to privatize it in the 80s and then again in the 90s and the Liberals talked it up in the 80s and then Flaherty spouted off selling it during his leadership run. Now the Liberals are back at it again. The Spirit lobbiests are looking to put McGuinty into their rear pocket. Odds that McGuinty will sell out are pretty good.

Harper to prorogue parliament AGAIN?

You crack me up -
The simple question of what to do with prisoners is 8 years too late. This is no surprise to anyone involved and shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who is competent.

No it's not "missing", it forces one to make a decision if you wish to vote. I could have abstained based upon your comments below, but I choose the "lessor evil" and everyone knows I despise Riverwind because I prefer Helicopters and he prefers the HST. Seriously, I don't think its Riverwinds strong suit, but he took up the mantle to challenge and part of a good debate is the ability not to irritate the lurkers. In a heated debate, some of the comments in those threads would test the patience of Job. I have engaged in many debates with riverwind and he has never ever used such terminology to challenge my position. Sometimes a heated thread lowers people to the level of the participants. Wisers ones might do as Capricorn has suggested and just tune out. Correct.

If you want to kill a forum in a hurray, post full articles, have no opinion or personal comment and move on. You to like two sets of rules. Ones that are ok to break if you are in agreement with the violator and ones that should be enforced if you disagree with the violator. Its becoming tiresome.

Lets not do a poll on members discussions on any regular basis. Or we'd have Argus vs....Mr Canada etc. and I don't think this is the intent. Or blueblood vs madmax or....

I think Riverwind did a superior job of presenting his case in a long and tenuous thread. I can't even say that I agree with him, I just feel he did a better job. It's also clear to me that this isn't Riverwinds forte but even still he was quite strong. At times some of the evidence was questionable or off, but compared to the opposing view, alot of fear over fact doesn't go very far. I am not certain if this kind of thread should occur when there are opposing voices. I like the discussions and the passion and I don't believe that posters on MLW are auditioning for the debating club of Canada. However, I have accepted this particular poll because in one statement a claim was made and therefore empirical evidence is required. The vote within this thread is a good indicator of who the argument was going and I agree, that there is enough spread in the political spectrum on MLW to be fair representation. Call it

So he must be talking about the Current PM

Should Selinger have gone for the Federal HST Cash, like Campbell and McGuinty?

It appears things are worse for the CPC then I expected. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/conservative-boycott-shuts-down-afghan-detainee-hearing/article1401524/ This appears to be the beginning of the end. Heads are gonna to roll....

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/47-per-cent-back-ndp-with-selinger-at-helm-79290817.html With jdobbin gone, here is the latest poll out of Manitoba. NDP 47% PCs 37% Lib 12% Interesting numbers to contrast with the Federal Polling numbers for this region which IIRC are something like this... CPC 50% LPC 23% NDP 22%

Federal Liberals post doctored photo of Harper assassination
madmax replied to M.Dancer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
2nd Rule... No Assassinations.... That's why Mercer is funny and the LPC appear to be the joke. I swear some of those bad CPC habits have now drifted over to the LPC. Another beer and popcorn moment from the LPC. Thanks for the Entertainment. Unfortuneately, Mercer is for entertainment, political parties I monitor for Good Government. -
Richard Colvin: Soon to be NDP Candidate
madmax replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Lots of ad hominem attacks coming.... Whistle blowers are ok, until they blow the whistle. If I recall correctly, the doctor involved in the Somalia affair was called lots of horrible things for blowing the whistle. Colvin is looking like a heads up guy, no matter how long he watched his peers have long lunches and nappie times. Seems the debators here want to change the channel. Considering even the most uninformed MLW poster was well aware that Afghans torture people and its likely if we handed over prisoners they would be tortured, its takes a pretty dark set of glasses to turn a blind eye to what would occur. Everyone knew this crap was going on. Most took the opinion of many of the MLW posters. Who cares? So goes a poor defense. -

He will be remembered as the Prime Minister of Canada. Can't say as he has changed this country let alone changed anything for the better. Mulroney and Chretian did well after their terms in office as has Martin. Why should Harper be any different. Political leaders always feather their nests. -
What did he know and when did he know it...

That's a funny observation. Good eye... As for the thread title... The NDP is the only party in the EKOs poll to gain ground. Will see if that trend continues after Christmas. The HST will likely fall off the media radar.... but will it fall off the publics???
