Sorry, ignore is not a feature currently supported in the chatroom.

Merlin is right, using multi-quote is the preferred method of replying to more than one post. It's not difficult to use, so I expect everyone to try to use it whenever possible.

Sorry, my decisions are final. No banned individuals will be returning to the forums.

There you'll just have to log in each time. There is absolutely nothing we or the makers of this forum software (outside of a Flash Local Shared Object, but then that's just a cookie in a different name) can do to help with this issue.

If you get warned, you get a point. They do expire, but the expiration date is NOT public or available to you.

Question on selective judgments by those with power
Greg replied to a topic in Support and Questions
You shouldn't presume that the moderation team doesn't see the selective/subjective nature of the reports by certain members. We can, and we always attempt to take into consideration the context to the report and the specific action that lead to the report. Also, enough with the Olivia Chow discussion in this thread - if you want to debate about her, post a new thread or update an existing thread. -
Question on selective judgments by those with power
Greg replied to a topic in Support and Questions
Responding to each report isn't reasonable, we're volunteers here, we can't take a few min per report, we'd be here all day. Also -- to be honest -- some reports (NOT ALL!) are frivolous, so to respond to them would only invite a discussion about the validity of the report - which again, we don't have time for. -
Climb off the cross bcsapper, no one here is trying to censor or impose their "biases" on you. The original post was deleted because it was deemed inflammatory and a pretty good example of a trolling post. It was a judgement call made by me and I stand by it. Now, should a note have been sent to the original poster requesting they repost with more respect and decorum, yes. A note should have been sent, and the Moderation team will make every effort to notify a member if an action like this is done in the future. However, i will point you all to the rules and guides, specifically this section: No one contacted me requesting an explanation. Also, this is NOT the place in the forums to post questions about moderation and or missing threads. If any of you post a thread like this again, outside of the Support and Questions section of the forum, I will delete the thread without notice. It has already been deleted, as the quality of the initial posting is pure troll bait. Peeves, consider this your notice that any future posting that is this poor in quality, will be deleted.

Why are you dragging and copying anything? Are you not using the MultiQuote functionality of the forums?

An insult is an insult, no matter were it happens in the forum, it's against the rules.

Nothing shows up under "NEW CONTENT" When I'm logged in.

Note, everything works fine on FF 16.0.2 on a OS X Mountain Lion. Also, works fine with FF 16.0.2 on Win 7 -

What OS and version of FireFox are you using? -
Sigh, it's hard to enforce rules, when members refuse to read and understand the rules. Read this The rule is pretty simple - what is hard to understand about insisting a member use the quoting feature to quote other member's posts, and then insisting the quote is properly trimmed?
-
I have a better idea, don't engage in behaviours that could lead to a suspension or banning. It's a rather simple. Read the rules and guidelines, keep your nose clean and you won't be shown the door - ever. Every single suspension or banning was with cause. I don't care if the infraction that lead to the suspension/banning was in reaction to some perceived wrong at the hands of another member. I will not, nor with the moderators, read every single posting on this forum. Nor will every infraction be reported (it would overwhelm the mods anyways), so expecting anyone to get both sides of the study is not reasonable. If a member breaks the rules on a regular basis, sooner or later that member will be suspended. If the actions continue, the member will be banned.

Do you have cookies disabled on your computer? -
No, that's nonsense. The quality of the discussions in these forums has a great deal to do with the overall quality of the participants. If anyone is under the impression that Charles, Michael and I can somehow improve the quality by slapping more "justice" around, this would indeed by a very boring place. I would also add that there wouldn't be many of you left in the forums. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone gets excited, everyone says things - from time to time - that they regret. If I lowered the hammer every time someone stepped outside of the boundaries of the rules of this forum, most of you would be looking for somewhere else to discuss politics. So don't presume that because a poster breaks the rules, we haven't noticed and or warned them. We give all members the benefit of the doubt - regardless of the amount or severity of the broken rules. I'm also always surprised at the relative lack of reflection some members of this forum have; accusing others of fault while at the same time contributing to the same negative behaviour. I won't name names, but if I had a nickel for everyone time a member reporting someone else for a rule infraction and then proceeded to break the same rule in "defence" of themselves, I'd be a rich man. I'll remind everyone that I'm basically the only one here whose identity is clearly stated - the rest of you are operating under various aliases. Which means when someone "insults" you, they're insulting your alter ego; not your true identify. If someone hurts another member’s feelings (whether via a insult or biting criticism), it not my job to extract justice – my job is to maintain the integrity of these forums, not deal with the emotional state of its participants. So just because I haven’t banned someone because he or she has insulted you and or hurt your feelings, isn’t because I am personally biased and enjoy watching you in pain. Rather, I’m attempting to ensure the forums do not become a cesspool of ideological/partisan miscreants and or a hyper-moderated discussion stifling snoozer of a forum. It’s a balance, and judging by the overall high quality of discussions I’ve maintained for the past 12 years, it’s working.

That limit has been lifted. Thanks

I would prefer if you want a double post removed, that you use the report the post feature and it will be flagged for removal. You are correct, Moderators cannot remove posting, only I have that ability - but I would rather the posting be removed completely, than have it languish in an active thread.
-
I can look into this issue, but i would strongly encourage you to try Chrome or FireFox - both are, in my opinion, superior browsers to IE. Even Safari is pretty good.
-
What browser are you experiencing this issue on?

I think both of you are confusing the various features of the search functionality. The gray box inside of the search entry form allows you to select WHERE you want to search. Options like, "This Topic", "Forums", "Members", etc, allow you to narrow the search. This gray box will default to a different setting depending on where you on in the forums. For example, in this thread, it defaults to: "This Topic" - which allows you to ONLY search this topic. But if you want to search the WHOLE forum, click the box and select, "Forums" - which will give you a broad search over the whole forum. If you search on the front page of the forums, the gray box will default to: Forums. But if you go into a specific forum (say, Federal Politics), it'll switch to: this Forum; and it will only search Federal Politics. If you go further into a thread, it'll switch to: This Topic; and you will only search inside that particular thread. Again, you can always override the search target by clicking on the gray box! When you select the little gear next to the search form, you're getting the Advanced Search - which again, allows you to specify where in the forums you want to search (along with the ability to focus your search even more). Does this all make sense now?
-
Just to confirm, Argus. Are you still reporting any issues with search? Otherwise I will close this thread.
-
Personal attacks are already against the rules, so it would be redundant to specifically mention it in the sig rules. Touché! But then again, I'm the Forum Admin, so I get to break the rules from time to time

You're not getting any results from the search form in the top right hand corner of the forums?
