  1. Thanks for reporting this issue. We're working on this issue. I'll update this thread when i know more. Thanks
  2. This is a hiccup relating to the server's internal clock. I recently rebooted the server and for some reason this knocked the clock forward a few hours. I'm not entirely sure why, but this issue is being dealt with as we speak. Thanks!
  3. I don't think this is a glitch. I'm not familiar with this specific operation of the forum, but I'm willing to speculate that these numbers are not updated "as they happen" but rather are tabulated nightly by a regular script. I will see if I can find out why and update this thread when I know more. In the mean time, watch the views number for this thread and lets see when it updates. Cheers,
  4. Can you give me a specific example?
  5. The system clock has been updated. The system clock is set to CDT. Thanks,
  6. The system clock has been updated. It should now properly display the time.
  7. This was a change that occurred when we upgraded to the latest version a few months ago. I've updated the forum settings to force the opening of a new window when an external link is clicked. I'm not a huge fan of forcing a new window open, but we'll try this for a while and re-evaluate in the future. Thanks,
  8. I personally choose all the cartoons on Maple Leaf Web. The opinions expressed in the cartoons are of the creator, in this case Tim Dolighn, and are not representative of the opinions of myself, or anyone else involved with Maple Leaf Web. I choose cartoons I feel provoke further thought and reflection.
  9. Ok, after further investigation I've discovered that if you're using IE, you'll need to download a plugin for IE called: ieSpell. You can download the plugin by clicking on the ABC button on the top right of the post editor. Those of you using FF or Chrome don't have to worry about this, because your browsers already have spell-check built into the browser. If you're using Safari - I'm not sure, as I don't have safari installed on my machine. Anyone using an outdated browser is on their own (my suggestion is to download and install the newest version of your favorite browser).
  10. Seeing that a great deal of the modern browsers come with spell-check built in, I've never felt it was worth implementing such a feature directly into the forums. Actually, I'm not even aware of a spell-check mod that would even be available for Invision Power Board (which powers this forum).
  11. Google's Chrome is a nice browser too...
  12. The editor control problems have been fixed. There was some conflicting javascript that was causing the issues. Any IE 6.0 related issues will continue, as I have stated, IE 6.0 is an outdated browser,
  13. Is this been an issue since the upgrade, or is this something that disappeared recently?
  14. This is an EXTREMELY outdated browser - it was released back in 2001. Sorry for being blunt, but this is a really crappy browser. IE6 doesn't even support CSS 2, which means, I can't design a website that will look good in IE6 without seriously degrading the experience for users using modern browsers. I would suggest you download a modern browser like, IE8, FF3, Google Chrome, etc. Thanks!
  15. In many cases when I ban someone there are often extenuating circumstances that are not necessary public knowledge. I'm not going to go into details of this particular case (or others in the past), but rest assured, I only ban those who genuinely deserve it. To certain degree you have to trust my judgment to do what's best for the forum.
  16. Charles and I do NOT contribute in these forums outside of our moderation and administrative tasks. There is no way that you can contribute to these forums (with or without a alias) and still attempt to be impartial.
  17. There is no specific rule outlawing the discussion of other forums or websites. However, you are right, I'd rather avoid any negative discussions about other forums or websites. Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences about the Maple Leaf Web forums. Charles and I work very hard to make this place a friendly and welcome place for all ideologies and opinions. When I created this forum nearly 10 years ago, it was never my intention to create the biggest and most populated forum in Canada. I wanted to create a forum that welcomed the ideas and opinions of everyone, regardless of their ideologies and partisan beliefs. And in the end, I think we achieved that. Maple Leaf Web may not be the biggest, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more inclusive forum on the Internet. However, Charles and I can't take all the credit - you the members of the forum are what make this place great. What good would this place be without the contribution of the members? Thanks!
  18. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with antipolitico about Charles moderation style. But I will say, and I think most long time members will agree, that Charles has never EVER shown any bias against a political party, ideology and or individual member, since joining the moderation team. I have the utmost confidence in Charles and I think his dedication to the forums over the years is one of the reasons this forum is such a success. antipolitico has been shown the door, not because of his criticisms of the forum, myself, or Charles, but because it's fairly clear he has no intention of moderating his own language and or behavior.
  19. Can you elaborate? The upload feature is disabled, you can't upload any type of media. Yup, I understand what you mean. I'm hesitant to allow any type of image files to be included in postings, as some users can really get carried away. I'll spare you the specific details, but a few years back a hacker uploaded a jpg that was infected with a virus which embedded itself into the forum templates and which tried to hijack computers with a nasty little virus. I'm not sure if the same technique could be employed with externally sourced images using the tag - but I'll look into it.
  20. Image upload capability has been disabled for security reasons.
  21. Thanks for the tip, I've fixed the broken link.
  22. The interest field has been restricted to only allow 65 characters - which should stop members from rambling on and ruining the forum layout. However, if you see anything inappropriate posted in the interest field, profile or member signature, please report it and Charles and I will deal with it.
  23. It's called membership ranks, and they are calculated on the number of postings on has made to the forums. Here is the breakdown: New Member - 1 Junior Member - 250 Full Member - 1000 Senior Member - 5000 One a member reaches each stage, they get a additional "pip" added next to their name: New Member - * Junior Member - ** Full Member - *** Senior Member - ***** Once a member has reached the Full Member status, they can update their member title - which is why some of the longer standing members of the forum has custom titles. I hope this clears everything up for everyone.
  24. I'll consider reinstating, but I'm hesitant. Generally, the choice of opening new browser tabs/windows should be left up to the individual user, rather than forcing the behaviour through the code. I wasn't aware this was the default behaviour prior to the upgrade.
  25. Don't go crazy on the nested quotes - it's not against the rules, but it's bad forum etiquette and it should almost always be avoided.
