How safe is your drinking water?
Drea replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
aha White.. you need geography lesson! North of Vancouver is ... mountains! Vancouver's water comes from the Capilano watershed. Capilano WatershedWhere does Vancouver get it's water Out in the valley the water comes from Harrison Lake.... Harrison Lake Water fresh water everywhere! another cool map... I love maps! Look above those lakes (they are all pointing downwards toward the Fraser River Basin) there is NO population to speak of. NONE. Nada. Zip. Just spirit bears, totem poles and rainforest (gawd I love this place!) -
All of them have an "a" somewhere in the name...? I WIN! They are all muslim! Seeeeeeeeeee! The more theocratic a country the worse it is for it's citizens. Another case for the squelching of religion in governmental policy and human rights.

What makes a country one of the top 10 best places for women? and Why isn't the *US on the top ten list? This is why I think we got into the top ten and why *others did not. -- social safety net -- healthcare -- relatively easy access to post secondary education -- individual rights
-
Well then how DID Canada get in the top ten? I know! Dion bribed 'em! And native women (NOT first nations as the debate is still ongoing as to exactly "who" got here first) have the same life as everyone else -- off reserve.

The waterboarding poll
Drea replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The USA, continues to win that race to the bottom... what is waterboarding If I were tortured in this manner (or any other manner) I would confess to whatever they were asking me. As would most people. So the "information" that is gleaned by doing this is all bullshit. If I were asked, under torture, did you fly to the moon??? YES YES I DID! For a description of how it works: Waterboarding -
I agree WildBill I spent my twenties at the cabaret and had an absolute blast. We'd go to the cabaret (didn't call them "clubs" back then) every weekend -- I have so many good memories of my best friend and I flirting and dancing and... all kinds of "bad" fun that never hurt anyone -- what a hoot we had! edited to add: I did, I divorced "them". My husband (him age 21, me age 17) didn't even know how to wash his own hair when I met him. They bought us our first home -- they felt they owned us I guess... well they couldn't own me! I left everything but my little car and my two siamese cats and never looked back. Saw them in 2001 -- they are still the same, still trying to control people's lives.

She complied didn't she? Waaaaay back when I was a married teenager my inlaws hated my smoking. I never ever smoked in their house. Anyway one day we were all sitting around the table after dinner and I was back in after having my ciggy and they were lambasting smokers. I said "I'm not smoking NOW but you are all FAT 24 hours a day!" Then I stomped out and drove away leaving my husband with his judgemental family. Slamming my smoking was the final straw with inlaws who lambasted me about not eating as much as they did (dessert? errr...No thanks). So maybe they hated my smoking less than they hated the fact that I was thin and pretty.

Canada Last In Animal Cruelty Laws
Drea replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
First yah shoot it in the head. One shot. Instant death. Then yah slit the throat and hang the carcass upside down and let it bleed out. Then yah skin it.... hate that part! Then yah take it down and hack it into steaks, roasts, etc. Yummm. Nothing cruel about that. Sadistically causing an animal pain is NOT the same as killing it because you need to feed your family. -
Canada Last In Animal Cruelty Laws
Drea replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
That is so utterly sickening. I am going home to hug my cat... he is a living, breathing little friend and I would not hesitate to harm anyone who would dare hurt him. Some animals are pets. Some animals are food. Sometimes the line is blended but NEVER is it ok to purposefully cause a creature pain and suffering. and because one eats meat does not mean they condone cruelty, bc 2004. And only idiots wear fur. On the ranch, we'd shoot the cow before we'd eat her. My father would bring home a moose every year and we'd skin it and hang it. Never did I see a rancher or hunter cause a creature pain and suffering. Edited to add: I finally got the link opened... AW it so sickens me that there are people on this earth that would deliberately do this. When I am a little old lady ready to die I am going to go on a killing spree and murder as many of this type of person as I can get my scrawing old gnarly hands on. It's the least I can do. -

Hand him over to me... I'll flay the sonofabitch myself! Angus, I'd not heard of this (kinda glad I didn't see it) but I would like to find out what, if any punishment occured and whether or not it really did get shown as "art" in TO. -
While I don't have any stats -- I think about 15% of Canadians still smoke -- don't know their income nor whether or not they have children. But I was in the Timmy's drivethrough lineup this morning -- there were 6 cars ahead of me and all of them had a cig going (didn't see any kids at all). All I know is that 100% of this morning's 7:40 am drivethrough were smokers. *shrug*

Would you turn in your neighbour if you saw him standing out on his patio smoking a J? The cops would probably tell you they'd look into it and then laugh behind your back. As if one person smoking a joint is worth a police visit. Good thing most police officers know what's "busybodiness" and what is real criminal activity.
-
So best to let them SEE you putting the condom on... (?) Being born is the original gateway drug. Cig smoking is down, meth use is up. Maybe we should give 'em cigs... If it becomes a crime to smoke with children in a vehicle (or the home), then it should also be a crime to feed them unhealthy foods.
-
I rarely smoke with the kid in the car. Not because doing so is criminal, but because he has stated how much he hates it. We smoke in our house but if he is watching a movie with us, for example, we will pause it and go elsewhere to smoke. It's simple common courtesy, imo.

Do you not see a difference between shooting a hare and tossing a puppy off a cliff...? Hint: one is deliberately cruel. Tossing a defenseless creature off a cliff and shrugging while it yelps as it goes through the air. You are one sick "puppy". BTW, I would be just as disgusted if the guy had tossed a salamander or rat. It's the deliberate cruelty at issue, not the fact that he killed it, but HOW he killed it. How do you feel about those kids who microwaved the kitty? Do you condone it? Were they just having some "harmless fun"? :puke:

You are correct. I just absolutely love to rub America's nose in its own shit. And people like you who would defend the soldier and make excuses for his behaviour just make it so easy. *shrug* You are winning the race to the bottom -- congratulations.
-
Are you on a race to the bottom? Someone does something horrific so it's OK to do something a tad less horrific? Because someone is doing something worse, makes it OK? And I wasn't painting the entire military as cruel. Just this one asshole. And I highly doubt if any punishment will occur. Like I said, the soldier will probably get a prescription and go home and excuses for his behaviour will abound. There is no excuse, no reason at all for doing this except to be cruel. "Latorie" does not deserve to wear the uniform imo.
-
How very typical -- "we might be bad, but someone else is worse!". Are you on a race to the bottom? I hope there is a follow-up story... probably the soldier will go on Prozac when he gets home and there will be no prosecution whatsoever. After all -- he is a stressed* out soldier and needs to take his frustrations out on something doesn't he? *Never mind that he sure doesn't look stressed in the video, looks like he's just having some good ol boy fun.
-
No longer is the thread about the poor puppy -- it's now evolved into whether or not the military is "moral". Who gives a shit? A man committed a very cruel act and you people can only think of "your" image. Newsflash! "Your" image is already shot to hell and even if you could bring back that dead puppy it would not make a lick of difference. This soldier = America at it's worst.
-
The US does not hold their soldiers to any "high" moral standard. They want the lowest of the low, the worst beasts of humanity make the best soldiers in today's wars where the targets are civilians -- old men, women, children and now puppies. And M.Dancer -- the soldier (and the puppy) were not IN Hawaii, they were in Iraq. You people will say anything to defend your war for oil. S'all goooood. The puppy was obviously an "insurgent" after all. :puke:

and Einstein lied about being a believer just like I do every day. I flat out lie because nutty religious people have a "problem" with buying campaigns from a heathen. Einstein lied so his work would be accepted. Why do you think the many ancient scientists (at work now, no time wil research later and bring link to you) waited until they were on their deathbeds before publishing their findings? Because of religious prosecution. I'd bet that at least 50% of those who say they are religious when in a crowd, will come clean in private.

Isn't "canuckleheads" against the forum rules? Some of us actually happen to LIKE the country we live in and don't appreciate the insult. Thank you in advance for not using it anymore. Cheers!

Nearly 3 million Americans in Jail
Drea replied to trex's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No, wearing the "bracelet" does not mean that the government pays one's mortgage or utility bills. Where did you ever get that idea? I know a guy who got caught DUI and he served a year on the bracelet. Why not just throw him in jail you ask? Because he had a job and kids to support. He was able to go to work and function almost normally except for a curfew from 6pm to 6am. All non-violent first-time criminals should be treated this way in my opinion. It would save us taxpayers in the end. If he would have been thrown in jail not only would it have cost us taxpayers the better part of a hundred grand, it would also cost us taxpayers to support his children for that year. The bracelet is a good option in many cases.
