  1. Sorry Angus I did not mean anything by it -- but when you said "Is it a You Tube thing" --it came across (to me) as an adult poo-pooing You Tube. Why's that? Are there any predictions on how You Tube will evolve as today's kids grow into adults.... IMO, You Tube does what mainstream TV cannot as they have no advertisers to pander to.
  2. If only 3% of people are gay, then obviously they are having no effect on your life -- so why are you so vehement towards that small percentage of people? You must have misunderstood my post -- I said that no one CAN convert a person into a homosexual. Just like you cannot all-of-a-sudden (or even over time) become a black person, you cannot become homosexual just by virtue of their existence. Do you disagree? Are you afraid that your friends and family (and even yourself) will become "converted homosexuals" if they are allowed to exist as equals in our society?
  3. The "gay agenda" promotes the equal treatment of gays -- not "converting" people (how could a group possibly force you into changing what you find attractive?) If you are so afraid that you could be easily "converted" by a gay, perhaps you're attracted by someone of the same gender, and that scares you? One cannot "convert" you to homosexuality in the same way one cannot "convert" you to a different race. Homosexuality and heterosexuality are not choices -- some people are simply attracted to their same gender, some are not. And your problem with this is what again?
  4. Of course you do *wink* after all, they walk past you every day -- how could you NOT know them intimately?
  5. Jesus Camp the Movie Doesn't seem to be a YouTube "thingy". LOL Get used to YouTube... it is television/communication devise for the next generation. YouTube ROCKS! *says this middle aged woman*
  6. I agree Alta... we should pay auto workers minimum wage. After all they just make a product that we put our children in and hurl down the road at 100km/hour so no need to be concerned that the $8 an hour worker didn't feel like working hard one day and didn't install your ball joints properly. Oh well, in a purely capitalistic society if a kid dies because of fauly workmanship its his parents fault. /sarcasm Now you are going to say "well Toyota isn't union and they make good wages!" Alas they wouldn't without the pressure from unions. If a corporation can get away with paying $1 day they would. Unions (whether you are union or not) are good for society.
  7. Don't be sorry, we live in a socialist country (thankfully). If you or any other family member has ever used a government service, then you have partaken in our social democracy. A few years back Klein rolled back social service amounts for families and single parents (before the explosion of the oilsands boom when a huge amount of Albertans were on welfare) What happened to those people? Did they rush out and find a decent paying job? No, they moved to provinces that had better social service networks (many came to BC). So when provinces all have differing social services people will move to the province with the most benefits. All this serves to do is move poor people around, doesn't do a thing to help them get OFF the system.
  8. Whether or not europeans came here to "make Indians feel good" is debatable. I am pretty sure they didn't give one iota of thought to the "feelings" of natives. Back then we lived in a kill or be killed world. No one thought of fairness or equality... to early europeans everyone who didn't act like them were considered savages . I disagee. Eary europeans were notoriously disgusting creatures. Natives said they could actually "smell" them coming before they got ashore ... that's the Christian religion for yah -- they considered it a "sin" to see even one's own naked body... The Christian religion, remember, was also the driving force that took native kids from families.... yet you blame everyone but them. Hell, some of you even still believe in that religious garbage to this day (the power of propaganda again). IMO, welfare and government handouts have kept natives from success, it's not because you are native that you are unsuccessful. I blame the early governments for putting natives on reserves instead of just having them be part of society. I blame natives for not wanting more out of life -- for thinking a welfare cheque is enough. Natives have gotten so used to living with little expectations in life so they no longer strive to be better. How long (to the end of the earth?) do we have to pay for conquering this country 400+ years ago? I cannot go back to Germany and get my anscestor's brewery or the land it sat on back -- it was lost in the first world war. So what makes you think you can have anything back? If I can't have my brewery, you can't have your land. "To the victor go the spoils" was the mantra of the day. It was war and war is ugly and unfair. THe best thing to do is put the past behind you and live for today and tomorrow. Yesterday is done and gone.
  9. All I know is British Columbia and in the 1970's in BRITISH COLUMBIA I went to school with numerous natives (rural school not "urban" school). I grew up in the sparsely populated Cariboo. The kids would be bussed from Alexis Creek, Anaham (sp) Reserve, the Chilkoot (sp) etc. Some of those kids even had to spend the week away from their families in order to attend school. As far as I know there was no "dorm" at the school and those kids just stayed with other families. My bus ride was only 45 minutes so I got to go home everyday. But no doubt you believe those kids should not have been ferretted out to other families, but remain uneducated but at home on the rez right. I have lived in areas of natives and not one, NOT ONE has had an immediate relative who had any experience with residential schools. And those who do mention it (like here on the interet) it's always my uncle's cousin's step sister's half brother's aunt or something like that. SO yes, I was going on my personal experience. Like the Jews, there is no "real" history regarding natives.... its so muddied by propaganda that it is virtually impossible to find out (link or no link) what is real history and what is made up. I may be ignorant of the residential housing issue but I know success when I see it and it ain't on no rez that's for sure.
  10. Why you "mutt" you! All mixed up with other races... (me too silly!) Why do you find it so difficult to accept that you are descended from orientals and whites? I don't fight the fact that I am descended from German, Scottish, French, Norweigan and Native peoples. I am proud to be a Heinz 57... surely you agree that a mixed breed is hardier. But in THIS thread you are conjecting that the protest would not have been successful if it were a native protest... Instead of whining, why not join those environmentalists? Or do you want the Pitt River staked out by private corporations?
  11. Nah, I am blonde...took after my German roots...I only just found out last weekend that my great grandmother was native... I always wondered why my mom, brother and sister had such dark brown eyes and straight hair -- now we know! Reserves should be abolished as they perpetuate the whole stereotype of the "drunken Indian". I am not against natives -- I am against keeping a people in poverty for life by making them dependent on handouts. Had my hair done yesterday by that same native foster mom. She is an awesome person, not because she is native but because she is funny, personable and an incredible hairstylist. She is so good at her profession that I paid her $135 for my hairstyle and no one else is ever touching my hair!
  12. Conjecture! Next!
  13. The problem today is that Social Services leaves native children in the care of "relatives" and even when a good family is available, they take the child back to the reserve. A native woman I know was fostering a 16 yo. The 16 yo had baby and then ran away leaving the baby with the native foster parents. Social Services and the baby's "band" took the baby away from a perfectly good home (off reserve home with a successful business owning native family) because they said he must be raised by the "band". There goes his life. All in the name of political correctness. The native foster mom was heartbroken -- she had the baby in her care for 2 years. I guess she wasn't "Indian" enough as she was successful and lived off reserve. What I said was that in the 1970's native kids were going to the same public school as me. And if they were in public school, how could they ALSO be in residential school? I was pointing out the fact that you are wrong. Because I, as a taxpayer, pay for your very existence, you are damned right I am going to put in my "two bits". Don't want my nose in your business? Get off reserve and become a contributing member of society instead of a taker.
  14. Right there you have it wrong already. I went to school in the 70's... with natives. Regular public school. The residential schools were closed down (no I have no link for you sorry) before the 1970's. Amazing how the propaganda just keeps flowing... in 2015 natives will be telling people they were in residential schools in the 90's.
  15. I think it's more availability than anything else. In the 80's there were few "depression" drugs available. Now there are loads of them and people, rather than dealing with life, choose to take the easy way out with a pill. I take a Calcium/Magnesium mineral supplement (along with B complex) for stress. I no longer grind my teeth in my sleep and feel wayyy less stressed than I used to. I had a doctor prescribe prozac but I felt like I was on a cocaine binge and didn't continue with the pills. I got onto the vitamin route through my neighbourhood healthfood store. Friend of mine didn't have any energy so she now takes a "kelp" supplement and feels great. We are taught that a pill (drug) will cure everything when in actuality all we need is the right nutritional balance.
  16. In other words "I'll never protest anything ('cept from the safety of my computer chair) so I don't care if others can't either". You don't care about freedom of expression?
  17. Yet Harper wasn't leader then. Only in since Feb 2006...so your point is that under the Liberals 2005 saw the least number of weed arrests. Thank you.
  18. Hey I'd buy a Volkswagen Beetle (the old kind still made in Mexico) if I could get my hands on one. Great little cars that one can work on themselves. That's the problem with today's cars -- something goes wrong and you have no choice but to take it to an expert. Used to be one could fix a car with bindertwine and duct tape. And if our computer "grid" ever goes down there will be a lot of vehicles out of commission. Everyone should have an old non-computerized beater in the yard for that reason.
  19. But it's ok Kuzadd, while this video might show that it can be bad here it's not as bad as over there so it's okay. /sarcasm.
  20. I don't know. The article doesn't say, but check out the comments at the bottom. Most of them seem to believe it's "new" ice. But that does not change the fact that the earth is changing and we need to adapt to the change. Instead of "carbon taxes" (thanks Gordoyouass) we should be determining the effect of rising oceans on our coastal areas and developing a plan to deal with it.
  21. Naysayers read em and weep:The Wilkins Ice Shelf area of collapse measured about 415 square km, Notice bolded word is past tense. This is not happening at some remote date in the future, it has already happened and will continue to. Can mankind do anything about it? Even if we shut off every factory, pulled all airliners out of the sky and parked our cars, the earth will still continue this warming trend. Its finally the end of the latest ice age. What we need to do is adapat to the changing earth not run around like chicken littles throwing money at it.
  22. There are three "original races" on the earth. *used Wikipedia reluctantly but at least its consistent. Mongoloid Caucasoid Negroid Go ahead and see if you can find a "nativoid" entry. You are half caucasion and half mongoloid, get over it. We ALL stem from these three races.... almost everyone is a blend of this original three. FYI, Arabs are a blend of caucasiod and negroid.
  23. Non native women (most of us) earn our own money. We go to college and have careers that allow us to make wise decisions on who we cohabitate with. I do not believe that there has been many instances of "killing for insurance purposes" in Canada (you failed to provide a link proving it) so I fail to see your point? Are you grasping at straws to find ways to insult whites?
  24. Wouldn't need a boat a new fangled thingy called an "airplane" would suffice... if I were so inclined. But what on earth would I do with my native percentage? My great grandmother was a native woman who married a frenchman... and holy smokes I didn't even need a status card to get by. Of course you could go "home" too! Half of you belongs in Asia and half of you belongs in Europe. You are half white! Don't ever forget -- the native "race" is not a race, but a blend of oriental and white european. You owe your very existence to those who came from other continents in more ways than one.
  25. We've already given you welfare for life, free housing, free post secondary education, tax free status.... It is not time for natives to grow up (if our government will let them) and get off the nanny teet. Now is the time for you to stand on your own two feet little grasshoppa.
