  1. So you consider atheism "foolish"? Pffft. Whatever. How one can think science is "foolish" and believing in an invisible sky daddy is "wise" boggles the mind. Whatever. Have fun.
  2. well no kidding. Until "god" gets his/it's/her ass down here to earth, I will not "believe". If I saw it/her/him then I would be a believer. How about if someone tells you aliens created us -- why not believe that? Its certainly no more far fetched than the bible... about the "voice" -- I am just getting really tired of this circular argument. So tired of it in fact, that I am going to ask (no, demand) that the Allah/Jesus/Mohammed/Sky Daddy/Pixie/Elf/Alien saves me from it all.
  3. The voice is required so that... oh never mind You people are too brainwashed to even TRY to understand that a lack of belief is not a belief in of itself. I don't believe in Santa either (nor do you) so does that mean you and I have "asanta" beliefs?
  4. Atheism is in of itself the lack of religious belief... it is not a "belief" but a lack of belief. Atheism is not an "organized" movement out to "indoctrinate" children (or adults)... atheism is about looking at the world around us with realistic eye. Atheists don't get together to discuss how much "better" or more "saved" we are than others...there is no "church of atheism". *sigh* no matter how many times this has been stated, the religious cannot wrap their brains around the fact that a lack of belief does not mean a belief of a different kind -- it means no belief at all... *sigh* You pray that the fight between religions (and sects of each) continues? You pray that rather than using logic, we should all just listen to what our "gods" tell us? What if Joe Blow's god says that you are a menace and he must rid the earth of you? Do you still think Joe Blow should be free to push his god's agenda (killing you infidel!)? If it makes you feel good to pretend there is an entity judging you and yours then fine... but just don't expect others to accept your unprovable claims. Just keep the theism to your home or your church. Keep it out of my schools and out of my government.
  5. left hand side of your post reads "New Member"....
  6. Isn't Rita on Rabble? She booted ME because I couldn't agree with squeegie kids having a "union". LOL. She said I was too rightwing. Haven't been on Rabble for yeaars. 50 plus is a nice site but they closed down the political forums because it got too heated for the mods to handle. They weren't as toughskinned as Greg I guess. The first site I ever visited was Freedominion but they were insanely rightwing. Then I found Rabble, and they were insanely leftwing. Then I found 50 plus but they were too sensitive. Then I found MLW and it's great! Alexandra... you newbie... have some patience please. Gawd I hate it when newbies come along and start throwing insults at us oldtimers! Sheesh.
  7. I'm a real woman. I have a vagina and boobies and everything! Yes it's harder and harder to find slaves these days innit. So learn to take care of yourself already. Geeez.
  8. Kimmy -- I should have clarified -- I meant Sundays before stores were open then. (see what happens when one posts in a hurry! LOL) I was actually alluding to the fact that people who want stores closed on Sundays and think that it's a "family day" clearly don't know how much work women had to do. "Family Day" means mom cooks a big meal while dad and the kids go sledding or play road hockey. I would love to see along weekend in February as it's such a long stretch to Easter. But you can bet that I won't be slavin' in the kitchen! I be playin' a new computer game or sumpthin fun like that.
  9. you believe the same as he does, so bashing you would be bashing himself, no? Daily religion is "pushed" upon folks. I don't get through one single day without seeing some reference to the invisible entity. Religion is based on absurdity. The absurdity that there is an entity judging our every move. Think about, no really THINK about how silly this is. While you may feel comforted by the thought of an invisible friend, the fact remains that the invisible friend is not real, he exists only in your head. Just like a four year old who has an invisible friend... we as parents know it's not real but will generally humour the child. Is it absurd to watch a leaf fall off a tree and think "gravity in action"? Or do you believe the invisible entity personally plucks each leaf off of every tree? Which is it god or gravity? One cannot "prove" an emotion, such as angry, love, joy... these things cannot be "proven". No I hate no one. The religious always think people who critisize their beliefs actually hate them but this is not the case. In my world I have no one preaching to me every Sunday (or whatever day you've chosen as "sacred") that others are sinful or evil. No one tells me I am better than the next person because I believe a particular story about an invisible entity. Critisism is not hatred. That is correct. When people run around telling me their invisible friend is judging me, I laugh. Mr. Invisible friend ought to show himself, no? LOL Don't pity me. Save your pity. What scares you about my non belief? Why would my non belief scare you anyway? I don't have an invisible friend waiting to strike you down or anything. I can say what I want, I have no invisible friend telling me what I can and cannot do. I don't "distrust" believers, I just think they have been sucked into the most absurd notion that the human race ever came up with, but I don't "distrust" them. Most of the time I don't think about invisible entities etc. The only time in my life it ever comes up is here on MLW. Evil is a word created by the religious. There is no such thing as "evil" there is no such thing as a "devil" there is no such thing as a "god" so your point is moot. I live in this life. This life is the only guarantee we have. If there shall be a "next" life -- great! But I am not going to live my real life expecting something unproven (no one has ever come back and told us about heaven -- even my mother who promised she would contact me from the beyond if she could). Counselling? Why pray tell? (LOL). Should it not be the other way around? People who believe in invisible entities need psychiatric help. The friend is in your head... I look every day and like who I see. The same cannot be said for the religious who have been told they are born "sinners", born "evil" and that they must look forward to the next life because in this one they are really really bad -- so bad that the entity apparently killed it's own son... sick man sick. A statue is going to "save" me? LOL I am sorry but really, really think about how absurd that sounds.
  10. My 78 year old father lives in the sticks and has satellite. He watches Glen Beck (ack!) and some other wack job talking head -- a female, Nancy? somethingorother...and when I asked him who he thinks is going to win the Democratic nomination he said "Obama is a Muslim, so he can't win or the terrorists will take over!". The talking heads are busily spreading the propaganda thick and heavy. ... this is from my father, who in his younger days had a very open mind (voted for PET) ... I feel sad that he has now been instilled with unwarranted fear. So even Canadians that live waaaay out in the sticks are not safe from the garbage being spewn. I'm trying to get him to get a computer so he can finally see balanced journalism.
  11. I was going to point out earlier that "family day" is not a day off for most women who are mothers or grandmothers. On the contrary it is ususally a day full of cooking and cleaning up after family members. In today's world where most moms and grandmoms work this is simply unfair, imo.
  12. If I, as a nasty murderer, go to jail for killing your fetus, I am going to want the same treatment for you Ms. Preggo, if you choose to abort. Me and my wonderfully supportive family and my defense lawyer will make sure of it. That is how it will be interepreted. Guaranteed.
  13. My opinion of Judaism is the same as my opinion of Christianity which is the same as my opinion of Islam which is the same as my opinion of Hinduism which is the same as my opinion of Sihkism which is the same as my opinion on Scientology. ALL of them are unproveable to the point of absurdity. But you just want to whine that your specific absurdity is under attack. And what MDancer said... Yes I will continue to "attack", as you put it, your religion. Anything that touts itself as invisible, allknowing, allpowerful, omnipotent SHOULD be scrutinized IMO. By the way, I can prove gravity exists even though we cannot see it... Duh -- now that's a silly argument -- "but you can't see gravity!". You can see what gravity does -- that is you can see it's effect every time you pour a glass of water. You can't see air either but you can see what it's effect when it moves (wind bending trees, etc).
  14. No it's not a "fact". The "fact" is that no one has ever seen or heard from the entity who allegedly created everything. Never. Not once. The fiction you read is just that, fiction. And if you want to take the bible literally, who was god speaking to when he said "Let us make man in OUR image?" Who did Adam and Eve's children marry? Who were the "sons of god" who mated with "the daughters of earth"? Angels you say? Guess that means god was not really alone was he? What a liar! (or perhaps the infallable humans that took stylus in hand and wrote the thing were lying or...) LOL You can rationalize it all you want, call it "reality", but the reality is that no one has or ever will see the alleged entity.
  15. The word "ALL".... Should that have not given you a clue? ALL meaning every single religion that vilifies others... that'd be pretty much ALL of them. Do I need to link a definition of "ALL" for you?
  16. What I believe Margrace is eluding to is that if it is a crime for an "outside source" (not the woman herself) to kill a fetus, then it won't be much of a stretch to change it to being a crime if the woman herself decides to abort. If a person kills a fetus while punching a woman in the stomach, he/she would be guilty of murder. What if a man (the guy who "input" his sperm to create the fetus) decides he wants to charge a woman with murdering "his" fetus? IMO it is a slippery slope and the wording of the bill must make sure, in no uncertain terms, that the fetus is the sole responsibility of the woman and it is not murder if she aborts. IMO, the bill just muddies the waters and I do not like it.
  17. While I can't tell you when the fetus becomes a child, I can tell you that I am pro-choice -- up to the 20 week mark. That is plenty of time to decide whether to keep or abort. Once a fetus is 24 weeks, it can survive outside the womb with medical care. Back when I was single and pregnant, I was stressed (no kidding!) and my doctor suggested he send me to Seattle (this was in 1993, was late term abortion illegal in Canada then?) for an abortion. I was 20 weeks along and said a resounding NO! I wanted the child, I was just a tad stressed and needed someone to talk to. I never went back to him. In fact I moved away and found a woman doctor who got me and my baby through the whole thing. She understood the stresses I was experiencing -- she was fantastic. Perhaps my male doctor (being just a man) could not understand me or my "emotions". (Then what is he doing being a doctor?) Sorry Muddy, but while your comment may have been innocent (I read it that way) it could be construed that you meant women were just "too emotional" to deal with.
  18. I do believe you are a few years late there BC-04... Funny how the right has a hard time thinking in terms of "current, present day events". LOL Margaret was and still is a basket case. She had no brains when PET married her and she has no brains now. Why he married her (so eligible he was back then -- he coulda done better, imo) I don't know, perhaps she gave good hea... or something. BC -- McCain, a current events topic -- PET, not a current events topic.
  19. Obama was stating that "Just Words", such as "I have a dream" or "all men are equal" CAN make a difference. Patrick was talking about the same thing yes, but it wasn't a plagarism it was two people talking about the same thing. These "just words" are important to the American people (or should be). "I have a dream", etc If I am talking about advertising I might use the word "super spring sale". Am I plagarizing it because someone else used it? Of course not. We are both talking about a super spring sale just as Patrick and Obama were both talking about the importance and impact of "just words". Obama deserves a chance, after all once you hit the bottom of the pit (Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton etal) there's nowhere to go but up! Up up up!
  20. I would love to see a February holiday for us out here in BC. We should have one called Sihk appreciation day! That'd mess with people's minds! *just kidding But I would really like to have a long weekend in between Christmas and Easter. Those three months are a looong haul.
  21. Please enlighten us heathens as to how Canada is a "Christian" country. "God" can mean anything to anyone... some people have names for it, some people feel it's bad to "name" it at all and some people think of it as a "concept" like "mother nature". Please find some link that shows in the Charter (or other legislative document) that proves that we must worship Jesus the Christ. Because we have imported our holidays from Europe... Christmas etc, does not mean that we were founded as a Christian nation. Immigrants brought their beliefs and celebrations with them (all sorts of beliefs). If one were to really go back, say to before Europeans got here, then we would be worshipping crows as our anscestors. However silly that may sound, it is no more silly than a judge in the sky. Kengs, you know that I believe all religion is bunk so why do you keep saying I am attacking Christianity? If you were Muslim I would still wish you weren't! Cheers!
  22. Oh well. Happy weekend!
  23. well then let's go eat a Mohammed Cookie! Nothin' disprespectful about that, nothing in the Charter says we can't! Sound good dog on porch? I am mocked daily, called a fanatic etc, because I am an atheist. So too bad if you are offended by one little post in a whole sea of threads.
  24. Nuh uh! People kill people, guns are just inanimate objects. /sarcasm
  25. Not skipping over... just ignoring the insult Food vouchers can be sold and the money used for drugs. This leaves children going hungry. As an altruist, I believe in giving to those less fortunate. It is a shame that some take advantage but, as I have said before we can't let that stop us from helping those with legitimate needs.
