Yeah, if he can destroy them like he did the Ontario economy, he's got nothing to worry about. Except the part about the ontario economy.

Hey, here's a little something to explore the funnier side of 9/11 theories. My favourite line: Bush - "But 1/4th of the population is retarded! If they want to believe we control everything with intricate plans, why not let them."

What will Bush come up with now to win?

I must have missed that, what did Rove promise? Guessing where in the world mine sweepers are going is pretty uncertain, maybe it's just an exercise. As far as an October surprise, how about North Korea. Detonating a nuclear weapon can only bring up National Security issues, something the Dems are weak on. -
I don't share the confidence on this thread of the numbers. To come up with the total, they conduct a SURVEY of 1800 homes! I can just imagine the questions: "So, has anyone died here? Oh. How did he die? A Tumour? Dammit!" Then they extrapolate the entire population and their estimate is 426,369 to 795,663 deaths. Really. Some estimate. This technique is only now being TESTED by the UN, it says in the article. Yet some media outlets report this as fact, using the 600,000 number offered by this 'study'. There are many assumptions made to come up with this number. A mini genocide by terrorists in one area would naturally skew the numbers upward. Bagdad's death rate would be ten fold of other areas, etc. I think a survey of the surveyors is needed here. Their opinions of the war and the U.S. would be most revealing.

The wheels starting come off the Iggy bandwagon?

This war crime comment seems to me somewhat like ole' uncle Jean, making remarks for and then against an issue. In the context of an election, however I was surprised to hear him come out in favour of the Iraq war. Canadian lefties pretty much think THAT war is a crime. And to initially support Israel with his remarks on the recent conflict there, I thought he was ruining his chances. And now the other shoe drops. Puttin' the war crime moniker on Israel sounds more like a lefty, and no doubt shores up support among that part of the voter base. Of course, now the other side might be somewhat disenchanted... -

Let's just say I know a lot about the inner workings of the church, but am not at liberty to say much under threat of lawsuit. I can say that to compare the amount of deviant priests, bishops and cardinals to other professions is laughable. Unfortuntately, they all cover for each other. How about teachers? Another one was caught last week with child porn on his computer, in Thailand, I believe. Not sure what the B.C. teacher was doing there. But I must concede that the priest problem could have been dealt with better. -
And now we have seen that his approach of multilateral talks are fruitless too. Though he hasn't seen it yet because, like in Iraq, this administration is too insecure to admit when their approach is a failure, so they stay the unsuccessful course no matter what happens. Actally Bush has seen it, when NK walked out on a 6 nation multilateral talks about a year ago. It was in the news.

Truth is stranger than fiction I guess. NK popping a WMD and a reported New York Yankee's plane flying into a skyscraper will wipe the Foley scandal off the front pages, give Americans something else to worry about and help the Republicans in the end. And no need to keep an eye on Kennedy. -
RC Church approves of Unnatural Sexuality.....

There have been many documented examples linked to on this board showing religious groups or people being forced to rent halls or warned about their charity tax status bradco. I'm not going to list them again. Look them up if you care to be informed. Being aware of the situation and voting accordingly is the right thing to do, whatever side of an issue you come down on. -

The oxford dictionary uses terms like queer, freaky, freakish, perverse, degenerate and depraved. As adjectives to describe deviant. Perhaps your dictionary is the problem. As far as churches go in Canada this is where we are headed. Gays are demanding all churches marry them. As you may know, the Tories are working on legislation in this very area. -
And now for something completely different: Here's a clip of a Rep ad that David Zucker came up with. Personally I have a hard time believing Zucker actually thought this would be accepted for the campaign, but it's pretty funny stuff. As to the earlier comments about me blaming Clinton and claiming it's now China's problem, it's true that Bush must deal with it now. He has correctly seen that bi-lateral talks are fruitless. China and the other nations in the region need to also be involved. A partial naval blockade has been announced, and Japan has announced it will refuse all NK ships. Last year, there were 580 such NK ships. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that China will get caught slipping aid to NK under the table.

RC Church approves of Unnatural Sexuality.....
sharkman replied to M.Dancer's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
...okay, celebacy is deviant and unnatural. Will the ceremony encorurage more deviant behavior. Does the ceremony take anything away from the ceremony for sexualy active couples? http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/15709802.htm In this first post of the thread, you pointedly asked if the ceremony will encourage more deviant behaviour, after claiming that celebacy is deviant. In your post previous, you make a point that is lost on me. What are you trying to say? Post one says you are suspicious of celebacy and suggest it might encourage more deviant behaviour, the likes of which you don't bother to mention. Again, I say, why should you care if a person wants to be celibate in a religious context? And to bradco, who wondered about someone caring about the church marrying gays: What this woman does is her own business, just like whatever you do in your bedroom. The church, however, is a religious institution that has always taught the dangers of homosexuality. It being forced to marry gays against its will would have nation wide implications that a single person doing something of their own free will would not. -

Some of these folks, if they didn't have problems before, developed them in the church as it breeds this behaviour by its abnormal relationships. Priests live together, and were involved in many young people's sporting activities. They got to know the dysfunctional familes through invited suppers, confessional, and through personal counselling. You have to remember they were once treated as God's messengers who could do no wrong. Young kids were sexually abused, threatened and/or told to keep things secret. When parents found out they either denied it or blamed the child for lying. But when caught red-handed, the bishop just moved the priests around the diocese. This happened time after time. Now there is screening process, but there is still a great shortage, offering more immigrant priests an out from their impoverished countries. Yes, and the great majority developed no problems and went on to be effective members of the church. Just like in other vocations. You seem to know a great deal about the Catholic church. Were you a member, or are you just casting stones from afar? -
I'm not sure this is China's problem. They could be China's ally. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. China could be playing this situation to let it be a problem for the U.S. Let it be a burden for their resources. Watch what they do. China's not going to do any favours for the U.S. Jong has never claimed to be afraid of what China might do, only the U.S. if I remember correctly.

How can the Israeli-Palestinian conflict be solved?
sharkman replied to Higgly's topic in The Rest of the World
I'm sorry, if you think the answer lies somewhere in the hearts of one of the posters of Maple Leaf Web, you are sadly mistaken. The brightest minds in the known universe haven't been able to solve it, do you really think coming up with a list of to dos will do it? As long as one side wants the other side dead, there can be no peace. UN in charge of Jerusalem? Good grief. -
What crap. North Korea has said over and over again that it wants nuclear weapons to protect itself from a US invasion. North Korea likely restarted its nuclear program the second US troops entered it Iraq. IOW Bush deserves 100% of the blame for the current situation. Anyone who denies this link or worse, tries to pin North Korea problem on Clinton is so friggen naive and blindly partisan it is scary. Even today NK has repeated its demand that the US sign a 'non-agression' pact - more evidence that the Bush regime's refusal to engage in constructive dialog with NK is what lead directly to the restarted nuclear problem. The lesson the world needs to take from this if powerful nations like the US invade countries without UN approval then small countries will build nukes to protect themselves from the US. What the world needs is regime change in the US that puts in place a leader that understands the nature of cause and effect. Riverwind, if you can't remember Jimmy Carter going over to NK, maybe you should brush up on your history. I notice you believe what Kim Jong says, why he wanted nuclear weapons. Perhaps your crapometer is out of adjustment. Kim lies whenever he thinks it will benefit him, hence pulling one over on the Clinton Administration. If Jong won't abide by agreements, it's ironic he now wants the U.S. to sign on to another one. A regime change in the U.S.? No doubt one that aids the spread of militant Islam across the globe. The U.S. treated NK somewhat like Cuba, hoping it would stay a regional problem, but it didn't.
-
Yes, I can. NK was under a treaty that Jimmy Carter(no less) was instrumental in spearheading under the Clinton Administration. So NK was 'taken care of', only Kim ignored the treaty and probably spent the aid money on nuclear research. Is Bush supposedd to analyze every single thing Clinton did in eight years looking for failures? But of course the solution is to deal with the present situation and not play the blame game, something Bush has avoided doing. I wonder if Clinton will pop up somewhere wringing his hands and pointing his finger at the interviewer, claiming he tried his hardest with NK blah blah blah. I bet he will, before the elections.

Look around you. There are scores of women who are single and no hope of a meaningful relationship. It's not fair, but it's reality. Do you think every last one of them are craving sex at any cost? No, some of them are celibate, it's just how life turned out for them. And men too. They are lonely and live with it, no big deal. But when they become a priest, all of a sudden they are devient? I don't buy it. -
Hey, knock it off you, we're poor up here in B.C.! And we are sensitive to words like "Blue" and "Rodeo"!

No, the community standards are standards that are common in the city this cabbie story is in. HE must conform to THEM. This is in St. Paul, and you can bet there they are okay with driving drinkers. These cabbies must also conform to company policy. If the company wishes to drive drunks home (one of the big reasons cabs are called) then these cabbies must do their jobs.

This is a mess from the Clinton administration. They signed a treaty with NK that gave NK millions to not develop nuclear weapons. NK took the cash and didn't live up to their agreement. It's too late now to try and take the weapons away. The U.S. said as much by their actions when this first came to light, what, over a year ago? The U.S. did nothing. It seemed they had their hands full with Afghanistan and Iraq. NK's strategy in this matter could have been to wait for such a time to announce they had weapons. At any rate China seems to be content to let NK be another distraction for the U.S. government. All the U.S. can do at this point is sanctions and they have announced a partial embargo, where they will board ships bound for NK and inspect the cargo. This lesson should not be lost on the world. Iran has learned it. Sign a treaty and do whatever the hell you want. Will the U.S. do the same thing and expect different results? Not while Bush is in power.
