That's siimply community standards. If you don't like them perhaps you would prefer a place where the people don't wear clothes.

The cab is not a temple or an object with religious value of any kind. We shouldn't have to boycott zealot cabbies that want to make it so. If you want to boycott a pharmacy or a church, it's a free country. Drea, just because a church accepts anyone into the congregation, it doesn't mean they condone the person's lifestyle. The church loves everyone and tries to correct and guide according to the doctrines that particular church champions. As far as tithing goes, only a small minority tithe. Some give a little and some give nothing. That's between the person and God I guess. There are a few churches that preach a pro-gay lifestyle. There is no scripture that approve of the gay lifestyle. Those churches are misleading their flock. A popular philosophy today is that no one is wrong in the choices they make or no one is to blame. To see some ministers accepting this is disappointing. But I' m not surprised.

Harper Interview Sets the Record Straight
sharkman replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You're Crazy. The Star doesn't support the mission, Rosie is not the star but a columnist. In this case, a columnist who differs from the editors opinions. The stars headlines over the past 2 months have been the most biased slanted and leading headlines I have ever seen in a candian paper (including the Sun). Yeah, they keep a token 'conservative' writer on staff so they can say they are balanced. Come on, everyone knows they're balanced, right? -
Anger in Holland over 'apartheid' Islamic hospital
sharkman replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
This is prejudice and racism pure and simple. Certain European nations like this one are going to have more and more influence foisted upon them by the minority Muslims until the host nation will no longer be recognized. -
Not allowing the meeting/presentation to happen is the 'crime'. It doesn't seem like much until you compare it to times when conservatives want to protest something. All because they didn't like what was being said. How 'bout don't go? If people showed up and tried to protest a gay pride parade like that, those on the left would be freaked out beyond belief. And there would be violence no doubt.

Gen. Hillier: Most Taliban are "moderates"
sharkman replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I read both of the links August provided, but have yet to see any proof of the phrase which was the basis for this thread. 'Most Taliban are moderates', has appeared no where except as a phrase someone reported hearing on the radio. Without the context, it is impossible to know the General's intended meaning. There may or may not be moderates, but I don't think the average foot soldier over there is breathing a sigh of relief. -
Anger in Holland over 'apartheid' Islamic hospital
sharkman replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
Good grief, how can Holland let this happen? But this is what's coming in European nations as Muslims flex their influence that a large minority willing to riot can have. The article referencing attacks on the French police is just further proof. -
The Greatest Crisis In Modern History
sharkman replied to PolyNewbie's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Uh, Loonie Larouche is not somebody who's theories hold a lot of water Poly. You can follow him if you want, but anybody who runs for nomination for president while they are in JAIL has a few issues with reality. Getting 10 to 15 for mail fraud and tax code violations doesn't add to his reputation. -

An interesting interview, covering many issues. He should do this a little more often IMV. -

I'm still waiting for a link of proof that this occured. I'd like to see the remarks in context for accuracy if nothing else. Third hand information is kind of unreliable. -
"Tories Plan To Protect Same-Sex Opponents"
sharkman replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The reason to protect same sex opponents is because of actions of those like Svend Robinson, who attacked a priest outside the government buildings a few years ago, ripping his protest sign out of the priest's hands(it had scripture against gays on it), breaking it and throwing it over a hedge or something. That priest might have been right or wrong, but he had a right to be there, protesting. A priest in Cagary who sent letters to his congregation was critical of Paul Martin's stance on the issue as he is a Catholic. This priest was contacted by someone at Revenue Canada and told to cool it or have his tax exempt status removed. For a letter. There have been increasing numbers of incidents like these, and it's plain to see that there are those who would use the law as it stands to persecute those critical of the gay lifestyle. That is just as wrong as persecuting gays. -
Two Children Murdered in Barrie, Ontario
sharkman replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Your incident makes me shake my head. But I hope that in a citizen helping world, your child wouldn't have been taken away because there would have been no social services. However in today's reality, if you had the wrong social worker who sees spanking as abuse, who knows what might have happened. Never mind all the kids being raised where mom and dad like to get stoned in front of the kids. -
Let's not forget what Pope Benidict is...
sharkman replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
So where does he go if he's innocent? There have been many cases of adults being accused of sexual abuse and other things who have been found innocent. The little accuser tearfully admits they wanted attention or whatever and the innocent adult's reputation is shattered for life. -
You could use some of your own advice. Man, Christians might as well start up the bombing campaign for all of the good its done to follow Jesus's words to turn the other cheek.

I totally agree. If some religions feel that driving a cab will put them in a position that they may sin in, then don't be a cabbie.

How about Osama being captured. It does look bleak for them.

I have no problem with it at all. What view is that? You're being incredibly silly my boy, exposing yourself as being incapable of receiving information without becoming an emotional wreck and attacking the giver of the information. One possible interpretation of these numbers is that Harper has been successful in his dishonest linking of the mission with support of the troops. And I think you have experience with which to judge being silly and exposing yourself as being incapable of receiving info without becoming an emotional wreck and attacking the giver of information. Another interpretation is that 57% of Canadians support the mission. Just attacking the Tories again is pretty weak, but that's self evident.

Interesting idea about the Left. This questioning of everything keeps them from making decisive moves and divides them, and only in unity can you be greater than the sum of your parts. I'm not so sure about the Republicans. The present scandal has them questioning each other, and they need unity as well. Perhaps it will present a common foe to excite the grass roots.

No. It's nothing whatever similar. Taxis are licenced by the city and required to carry any passenger. There are usually only very few acceptable grounds for turning down a hire, and them having alcohol is not one of them. If Muslims want to operate a private taxi service perhaps the city could licence one. But it should fire anyone who refuses to carry a fare for any reason other than the very few acceptable cases. If the story was about Christians refusing to carry drinkers, the uproar from liberals would shake the nation. Religious bigots, judgemental prudes, yada yada yada. But if Muslims do it, God bless them.

I haven't heard Pakistan wanting to wipe a race off the face of the earth like Iran wants to, but I could be wrong.

Three quarters of the cabbies are doing this. You could be refused several times before you have to fight over the one cabbie who doesn't abide by Muslim religious law. I find this story quite telling. In another thread here, some posters are saying how if we just wait long enough, Muslims will be assimilated into our populations and will accept us like one big happy family. Of course said posters will now come runnng to spread some more of their well intentioned foolery. They won't accept Western norms in the future anymore than they do now. We are the Great Satan. A quick comparison: Christian missionaries are illegal in Muslim countries and are arrested persecuted and jailed. Muslims, however, are allowed to proselytize to their hearts content. They do not accept our culture, and we accept theirs. Our acceptance has not reaped any benefit save to have European areas overrun with a culture that won't assimilate.

We Must Protect ALL Minorities
sharkman replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If one church does not agree with their lifestyle, they can find a new church. If no church will marry them (which is very unlikely) they can start a new church or give up on religion. I know that if I were gay and a church did not accept me for who I was, I wouldn't want to be a part of that church anyways. I think we should call same-sex unions and opposite sex unions by the same name, since they should be the same. I don't care if people want to call that a civil union or a marriage, makes no difference to me. If one church does not want to marry them and others will, they will picket the one church rather than go to the ones that will, holding vigils and so on because this one church is homophobic. I guarantee this would be the response. And I am one of the ones who thinks traditional marriage should be called something different than whatever gay marriage would be called. Many religious people feel the same. -
I seriously can't believe you said you want to crack some heads. It appears to me that the Muslim countries are waiting for US to change, and they are getting impatient. Engineering change in European countries by overwhelming the population seems to be the technique to bring about the change they want. And this could be the blueprint for all countries, one at a time, as we wait for them to settle down. Many of these Islamic countries are getting more dogmatic, not less. And the hatred of the Jews and the Great Satan (the West) seems to be on the rise as well. Whenever Israel has turned the other cheek, the outcome has been discouraging.
