  1. Guess what, scientists just realized that they've been attacking cancer wrong after 40 years of trying. Damn, eh? Gee, I wonder if they could be wrong about any of the above mentioned items. "It is not unreasonable to say that all this time, the 30 or 40 years that chemotherapy and radiation [have] been around, we've been going after the wrong cells," said Alan Bernstein, president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the country's main medical research funding agency.
  2. Kimmi, it sounds like your dad taught you to how to treat those religious enough to talk about their faith. Pounding on the door and shoving your finger in their face as you utter threats. It was wrong of this couple to entice kids into their back yard without parents permission, but freaking out at them is over the top.
  3. So, you seem to have no problem with bible camps, just fanatics and religion in politics. Doesn't sound like you'd slap anyone though.
  4. You figure if the cops found a gun without your prints on it in your back yard that was involved in a crime you automatically think they are going to charge you with the murder and throw you in jail? They would ask you about it and when you came up with an alibi, they would move on. BTW, I don't think crackheads have enough brain cells left to think of wearing gloves, so the gun would have prints on it, just not yours.
  5. 69%? No doubt a poll conducted by the "Pot Rules" activist group at parties and on the beach. They need to be protected from hurting themselves, just like with booze. But I think I'll bow out of this thread now, you seemed to have found a way to work the discussion off of the actual title and onto your two faves again.
  6. I would suggest this step satisfies many Quebecers who aren't rabid separatists, and puts a separation vote safely out of reach. And the reaction of Duceppe showed this legislation hurt his cause. BTW Norman, when I earlier referenced the Liberal leader, I was referring to Graham, who is the current leader. IMV Harper stole their thunder and the BQ's, but the next election will tell the tale.
  7. It's just so easy to write people off with labels. As Stephen Harper did when he wrote off those voters whose sexual orientation he disapproved of when he voted to deny them rights that other Canadians enjoy. The thing is there are some who wear their sexual orientation on their sleeve and there is just no pleasing them, and I think Harper realizes this.
  8. Your scenario wouldn't get you in jail without bail. Your finger prints wouldn't even be on the frickin' gun.
  9. It's hard to see all of the ramifications of this proposed move, but any time you limit government spending, that's a good thing.
  10. Putin is slowly gathering the reins of a dictatorship. It was reported yesterday that Russia is selling advanced military hardware to Iran. He's also making friends in low places.
  11. Kimmy, you may not have noticed it, but you have a definite christian shaped chip on your shoulder. It is clouding your perspective on this issue. Did you have a bad experience with christianity as a kid or something? Not all Christians are evil. At any rate the same classroom that can't have the Lord's prayer in it is teaching increasingly on the wonders of homosexuality. Sex should be taught by the parents, and the classroom should be for what used to be called the three R's. And they need to try harder with those since high school grads are increasingly having trouble reading, for instance.
  12. It seems to me that if we can give nation status to upteen Indian bands in every province, we can do so for Quebec. Quebec has more right to nation status than that based on their numbers alone, and of course their history. Don't forget Norman, that the Liberal leader supported this fully as well.
  13. I hope this is just the beginning in a strategy to toughen up our crime laws. It'll be intersting to hear from some of those who wanted to keep the gun registry on how they feel about being tougher on gun crimes. I don't see this as being an attack on innocent until proven guilty, our system already has provisions for no bail given on certain cases. It doesn't mean a presumption of guilt.
  14. Why would he? Because he's a socialist. First will come the upramping of several huge government programs and budgets, next will come a desire to have the 'rich' and corporations(probably anyone making over 60 grand) pay their fair share, which are code words designed to whip up class envy and therefore win support. Oh, and probably a tick upward on the GST. When the recession hits then the real spending will begin. Kind of like in Ontario.
  15. Words are not meaningless in Canada, which is why we have hate speech laws. If I recall you have objected to words critical of Islam. I'm sure you would react with moral outrage if someone here said Muslims should be rounded up in Canada and shot(and rightly so). Yet you can find no moral outrage over the leader of a nation who says the same about Jews. In this case you say words are meaningness.
  16. How 'bout because we've heard this tune before. North Korea, Iraq, and now Iran, all claiming they wanted nuclear technology, but only for the peaceful benefits. Trick me once, shame on you... His statements about a race of people would be laughable if he didn't keep repeating them with wide eyed sincerity again and again, all in the context of Iran supporting Hezbolah's(sp?) latest attack on Israel. Doesn't that smell like a rat to you?
  17. Why would he? Liberals have been cutting taxes for years under Chertien/Martin. There is no reason to believe that trend would end with any new Liberal leader. Can you actually back up your attempt at mudslinging with quotes or policy statements from Rae since he began his campaign to becme Liberal leader? I doubt it. Look around pal, if you think I'm mudslinging you're going to get dirty. The point about Rae, and all politicians really, is to predict what they WILL do, not what they say they'll do. The leftwingers did this during the last election, remember?
  18. since this thread is also about Bob Rae, does anyone think he WON'T raise taxes if he becomes dear leader? All this whining about 1 % under Harper will be forgotten if Bobbie gets into office. His record speaks for itself, and it's kind of scary.
  19. What's this? You actually believe him? Wow, even his people are rolling their eyes and going, "Yeah, right!". But not to his face. They'd get arrested for that.
  20. Bob referenced the year '89. Perhaps that's when it started. Norm, our province was in sorry shape by the time the Liberals came to power. We were having population shrinkage, something that hasn't been seen in BC for ages. Companies were actually moving their head offices out of BC to avoid the tax scheme set up by the previous government, and we had a huge deficit. There was a small recession in '98, but our bigger problems were as I mentioned.
  21. Do you really believe this ? ie. That this has never been imagined before ? I have seen pictures of these people baking giant cakes featuring the WTC after 9/11. There's nothing new here. But to try to tie that to every Muslim everywhere is deceiving, and - especially this - drives a wedge between the West and the moderate Muslims that are part of our bridge to unity. I don't know about you, but I have never seen such hate spewed from the pulpit of a mosque. And it was a huge mosque full of muslims cheering on the sword brandishing part. That's a little worse than baking a cake in my book. I didn't tie anything to every Muslim, don't put words in my mouth please. How can you talk about me driving a wedge when the Imam is driving a sword? The actions of Imams like him are doing the damage, not people like me who point out his actions. Surely his actions are worse than what I'm doing. I haven't uttered threats, hate speech or brandished anything. Yet you attack me. How strange. And this was a show on CNN. They are not going to air something without source checking and such under normal conditions, doubly so when it's this controversial.
  22. Come on Norm, are your analytical skills unable to take in the big picture? The U.S. lumber market dried up. Houses markets tend to boom and bust. If you're going to whine about Harper concerning an industry, at least give yourself the credibility to observe all parts of the situation. They've been warning about the bubble bursting in the U.S. housing market for over a year.
  23. Back to Bob, I just heard an interview of him by Bill Good on his radio program. When asked about his dismal time as premier of Ontario, he blamed the recession of '89. I am not making this up. He went so far as to call the recession a perfect storm. The last time I checked, recessions were a normal part of the business cycle. Governments have been operating through recessions since Canada began. Our own BC premier whipped our province into shape in 2 years or so. But Bob couldn't handle a normal part of the cycle and he was in power for 5 years. Personally, I wonder if he's holding back, and that he's got more to say about his term, because that is really weak. It's actually pathetic, and as a conservative I really hope he wins the leadership race.
  24. I have reported both of these comments to the moderator. Do you spend your days lurking around and reporting every word of people you don't like to the moderator? That's pretty sad. No, you're pretty sad. Grow up.
  25. This is funny, really. When the left likes a study they forget all about the biases involved, or who financed it.
