Arguably true, but I think we would both agree that there are some serious problems with that. There may be an opportunity the next time the democrats get in. Although to be honest with you the amount of work that would be required for both sides to make that happen is substantial and I think both sides would be resistant. Even if the leaders of the day realize that this is basically an exercise in mutually assured destruction and that the only way forward is for both sides to agree to changes that would disarm everybody, there will always be members on both sides who feel that they need to keep that weapon in their back pocket. The problem is that mentality tends to lead to a Downward spiral. Sooner or later one side uses it again and then the other feels justified in reciprocating and the other side reciprocates the next time and so on and so on.
