Yes, a lack of the ability to feel pride seems to be one of the defining characteristics of the left. Mike's got the same problem, he doesn't understand what it's like to feel proud. Most of us felt proud when we scored a victory or one a tournament or the like. And the problem facing literally any province thinking of secession are the natives. They could vote to remain part of Canada. The argument is that if Quebec has the legal authority to leave Canada then the first nations have the legal authority to leave Quebec. If we're being 100% honest there are no Provinces that could stand on their own economically. The closest one that would have a shot at it is Ontario and even they really couldn't go on their own. So any province leaving would probably be looking at renegotiating confederation to gain more power and leave Ottawa with less power but still remain in Canada. This vaguely was the premise behind sovereignty association which Quebec pushed for a while. It's all four western provinces left they could make it go of it as a country. And Ontario come back in the maritimes could probably make it go of it too, although that would be a tense relationship I suspect. But it would be very hard to cut Canada into smaller bites than that and have it succeed as a truly independent nation

Sadly family annihilators and mass killers very often begin with suicide thoughts I read an interesting paper by an expert in mass killings of this nature who studied cases all over the world very interesting conclusions. There were four things that were necessary for someone to become like this and I'm not sure I can remember them all but one of them was to have the firm belief that there is no hope. Things will not get better. One of the others was a firm belief that your circumstances are somebody else's fault. Republicans trump's parents friends whatever it's necessary that you don't take personal ownership of your circumstance And the third was they have to feel isolated. I can't remember the other one off the top of my head but what I do remember is that the person was very clear that if you break any one of those items you don't get homicidal suicidal killers. So with a predisposition already to the kind of homicidal suicidal thoughts that lead to this if a young trans person is also told that they're happiness is due to other people such as trump or the evil right-wing who all hate them etc and they lose faith that things will get better they could very well wind up in the circumstance. And they feel isolated This could have been prevented with even a little bit of mental health treatment i would bet.
