  1. Seems you are talking about an issue in NB and in your school district in particular. A PM (no matter which political party) will always say the least offensive thing about everything. I think you are assuming only the "left" (whomever that is actually) are stupid and woke (whatever that is). "Right" wingers can be stupid and woke too. Even middle of the roaders are capable of being fools. People are people with varied opinions and change their perspectives all the time. Everyone has opinions about everything, some "left" some "right" some middling and that is fine but to put things in a left/right bucket is not becoming to you.
  2. Why is everything down to left and right. Why can people not just have opinions or beliefs or thoughts about something and not making it political? This blaming left or right shit is being very narrow minded and bigoted. People can believe one thing and can have different opinions on another and, believe it or not, are not politically driven. I sometimes argue with CdnFox... and sometimes agree with him...am I ambidextrous or left or right or just have a mind of my own and do not follow the crowd? I can fully understand a person not liking the present government and their leader but that does not mean everyone that agrees with one or 2 policies is left. You, Army Guy, were once a very middle of the road kind of person that could hold a discussion but you have lately become one of those where everything is left or right politically.
  3. 1. Advertising sole purpose is to influence people. 2. I do not understand what "customer demand" is in context to school boards. Seems to me, in my 5 school boards that it is a constant argument between board members. To the point that meetings have been shut down and parents protests outside of the meetings. In the need, nothing changes. I am unsure of what members of the board are supposed to do or manage. Seems personal agendas are the rule.
  4. There is no unintended side effects of advertising. Advertising is an activity meaning something that is supposed to affect you positively or negatively and is intended to affect you.. Whatever the goal of advertising is should be noticeable. Make you buy or not buy, be it a product or an idea or a philosophy.
  5. We are talking about school trustees and I remarked on the posters comment about not checking out the candidates. I never said or intended anything about left/right. When it comes to left/right, it is a BS statement that seems to cover anything a person does not agree with. If they agree, it's OK if not then it is left/right. Anyone and everyone can have an opinion to take on a subject and it is not a left/right thing, just an opinion. I am sick and tired of people making everything political when it is only an opinion. . The "advertising industry" only shows, prints or records what they are paind to do.
  6. Interesting comment. I was unaware the school district choose what books to stock and even that the ministry has "approved textbooks".
  7. Can be said for every candidate for all elections?. Maybe we would not have had to suffer with Trudeau for 3 elections?? LOL
  8. Lets be realistic. Grocery chains are a profit making business. They earn for their shareholders. Things like carbon taxes are a significant reason prices are higher as the carbon taxes affect every little thing along the supply chain from buying seeds to harvesting the crops to delivery of the products. Not sure where Trudeau thinks the high prices are originating but if he thinks buying Canadian is the answer, he is very wrong. Canadian produce and products are exponentially higher cost than imported products. Go to "farmers markets" and buy things, you will pay 20, 30 or. more % higher than in grocery stores. If you are asking grocery store chains to reduce costs and profits, dream on.
  9. This isn't Canadian Political Discussion Move this to the American politics forum
  10. Yup, do something illegal or atrocious and just rant on...because you then have the "mental health" excuse. Seems to work more and more these days.
  11. 1. Healthcare is a right and welfare is a lifeline, libraries are neither. 2. Any elected person is a politician. They all campaign and they fight for the position. They convince the electorate of the good they are going to do for our kids. I have told you I have no skin in the game bit...even many decades after having no kids in school, good percentage of my annual property taxes go to the schools. I will always have criticism or (very little) praise for school boards. Here in Ottawa, we have 5 school boards for a city that just reached 1 million population and only 77,000 students. Methinks that is over governance
  12. Mtg Royal is an official park. You have them in the GTA too. Waters around Manhattan??? I fail to see the comparison. The waters edge is not accessible for decades, except doe a few vantage points. The greenbelt property is primarily private property. As a matter of fact, I cannot figure out is any is public property at all. here is no recreational property. Far,m]ms are farms and if owners can make more money selling to developers than farming, what do you think they would do? Plus, farm land is a once a year venture and it supplies only local area once a year. Don't make it sound like it is a big industry.
  13. 1. It is actual evidence of value. Please tell me you are not equating welfare and healthcare to library usage??? 2. I suppose but school board members are elected officials and supposedly leaders in the direction of our childrens educations. They are as much politicians as any other elected persons. The majority of the board voted it so (maybe mioe depending on how the board is set up).
  14. 1. No, I have no kids in the game but am paying taxes to keep libraries open. I do have a public library in a school a block away and volunteer at the school and see no one in the library at all. They even reduced their hours to 3 days a week and only during school hours. As I said, when I worked near the central library, I walked past it twice. a day and it was empty except for the homeless, many that were sleeping. (and it was only open 10 to 4. The ones that are most upset are publishers and authors. I think that, with a few exceptions, book sales are to libraries and with them closing all over, those groups lose big time. COVID kind or proved libraries were not necessary anymore. Other sources became more available and ,more useful. EBooks were popular but they also declined. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/feb/10/library-use-plummeted-in-2021-but-e-visits-showed-18-rise-during-lockdown Only 7 percent of Americans report visiting libraries weekly, while 59 percent state that they seldom or never visit their local public library. https://www.aei.org/politics-and-public-opinion/libraries-are-in-decline-lets-renew-them/ 2. I suspect that to make such a dramatic policy change, the whole board would have had to have voted on it's acceptance. As I read it, there was no dust until a news station made a comment. It was being done and would have been completed had the station not brought it up. What surprises me is schools, librarians and teachers have not said anything. I agree with you, I think the whole thing will be shot down.
  15. Not sure where that came from. Seems like misinformation to me. I did hear and read about a GST removal for renters,
  16. 1. I am unsure of that but regardless, the actions of 2020 are not relevant and those actions have all been resolved. I did not read anything about culling books. 2. I can argue the library requirement with you for a long time. I used to work near the old central library and what I have seen is, I suppose you are correct, it was a community space, a place for homeless when it rains and in the winter, free internet (and often a source for porn), free movies and even free loans of art. Free internet is available almost everywhere nowadays, I do not see the library as being. a needed source and the cost of and upkeep of the computers should not be public expense. In my neighbourhood, the loneliest place is the community library. No one uses it. Having said that, audio book loans are good and I do see a need for this as there are many visually impaired folks that can really use them. Overall though, I think the expense of maintaining huge libraries is no longer required. Anyway, how is the Peel school board action justified? The entire board must have debated it and voted on it. Where is that information and result?
  17. A pure NIMBY reaction. People want to live in the areas close to cities and that is where the greenbelt is. The greenebelt was a kneejerk reaction to some noisy tree huggers and now it is a problem for everyone.
  18. says that this came from Stalinist Stephen Lecce's office... Here's some advice... wait a bit before reacting to these things... Not sure what happened in Peel but it was 3 years ago that the ministry had to set down some rules and objectives and requirements for results. I suspect that issue (or issues) have been resolved so, I am not sure why you brought this up? Also I am unclear why the Peel board made such a ruling. Why was a 15 year old llmit set on what is in libraries. How are students going to do research? EDIT: Brings me to a personal point... with the internet availability nowadays...are libraries even necessary any more. Here in Ottawa we are spending millions and millions and millions of dollars to build a new central library and the ones using it are really only for free internet and movie loans.
  19. Who is "handing over" anything? As i have asked numerous times, who owns the greenbelt It is not government. They have not expropriated the land. A developer would have to buy the land form the owners. Oh, you mean pay property taxers like everyone else??? Houses on the land pays more property taxes to the province, region and municipality than if left greenbelt or farmland so...it would benefit all levels of government. LOL So, in essence, build smaller homes instead of the 3000 to 5000 sq ft homes which are now being built and sell like hotcakes?? Not sure why they should not be permanent though. Oh and be on acreage instead of smaller lots?? Makes the neighbourhood exclusive does it not?? Quickly built homes and for sale only? No rentals? What about the folks that cannot afford to buy homes? That is the problem. Lastly, you want it to be OK for folks to be wandering around your homes unhindered???
  20. Ha Ha Ha...on and on and on... Ha Ha Ha. One sentence would have been sufficient but Doougie cannot just stop there LOL
  21. remove the man's pants under order of the King of England.???? OMG.... Was Dougie93 there?? LOL
  22. Or, perhaps it was configured for max passengers as opposed to cargo or part pax part cargo? It is a pretty big effort to change configurations and using one already configured makes operational and practical sense. "The material" does not take a lot into consideration. It is easy to say it is easily done as so many that do not have to do things say but it requires significant effort. Lastly, it is also a matter of operations, what aircraft are available to do all the tasks.
