Dirty Doug’s Den of Deplorable Developer Deals
ExFlyer replied to BeaverFever's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I hope so. That is the issue with this greenbelt BS. Farmers etc that own the greenbelt land get nothing for it because it is greenbelt. Finally a developer gives them a bunch of cash and they are happy but the others are screwed. In my mind, greenbelt (everywhere, not just in the "golden triangle) is a waste of time, land and effort!! -
On top of the more than $100 billion they have gotten over the past 300 years for doing nothing. We have to get over our absolutely foolish guilt over peoples that do nothing to help themselves. First Nations in northern Ontario seek over $100B to honour treaty promise https://ca.news.yahoo.com/first-nations-northern-ontario-seek-080000425.html

Not sure what your point is??? It does not prove or say anything about "we MUST IMMEDIATELY stop using fossil fuels." nor anything about "justify any of these greenie actions". Carbon taxes are just another tax, yes, they are to lessen fossil fuel usage but, hardly a "death cult action" LOL. As much as an anti pollution action as anything. Realistic replacement? Being discussed and talked about all over the world all the time. Why dumb?? It was an anti pollution action long before it became a climate change thing, it is a good thing. Pollution is a major problem world wide and fossil fuel is the major contributor. "A carbon tax could discourage the use of fossil fuels and encourage a shift to less-polluting fuels, thereby limiting the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that are by far the most prevalent greenhouse gas. " https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/fandd/issues/2019/06/what-is-carbon-taxation-basics

I also have never read anything that stated "we MUST IMMEDIATELY stop using fossil fuels". I have read that fossil fuel is a prime contributor but that there are other factors as well. There are fanatics on both sides making claims but, as with all fanaticism, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Both sides are evident in this thread. The obverse to you, can you or anyone justify any of these anti climate change claims actions?

What "doomsday predictions"? Not sure where you are getting the "doomsday prediction" thing. I have never heard that term used except by naysayers and deniers. All "science" has said it s that the climate is changing and it is getting hotter every year.

Dirty Doug’s Den of Deplorable Developer Deals
ExFlyer replied to BeaverFever's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Seems that the ministers staff were the ones that made the deal. "He" did not favour anyone. Ford cancelled the land sale so, does that mean the owners of the land have to give the money back to the developers and that the land is again worthless? -
Not really. I strongly feel there is too much discussion about this sort of thing. It has been blown out of proportion by activists. I strongly suspect 90% (or more) of the people really don't give a rats ass but become involved because a small vocal minority keep on and on and on. Shoving something down peoples throats and being righteous does not make the thing stuck in their throats taste any better. Making this a thing about children is as farcical as teachers going on strike for more money and saying it is all about the kids.

I see PP singing the same tunes as Trudeau so.... But your NB government is conservative so, are they on the left now too? I will not challenge anything but I will say, they are only stupid to those that oppose their policies or methods. That is my middle of the road response. Some like them, some don't. I think all parties (exception may be NDP because they never have a plan) are the same right now as they all play the non offending populist game. Nothing wrong with pointing out mistakes but, mistakes according to you. My comment about you was that you used to be quite "middle of the road" and your reasoned comments but lately you are very much right leaning. I cannot and never will point out anyone is wrong as the opinions are very much theirs.

New Political Party On The Horizon?
ExFlyer replied to Canadian_Cavalier's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For sure the center is available but, it also splits the right. I agree, the smaller parties get lost but, they take votes. if the conservatives are looking at a new party, it will divide them. Peter whatsisame messed with the conservative status quo last time. -
Or is it that some people do not ant to make decisions or instill discipline themselves.. They want someone else to make the rules so they can absolve themselves from parenting? I am finding more and more folks debate and debate and end up with nothing and the authorities step in and make decisions for them and now they have someone else to blame for their own ineffectiveness.

Great, another party to divide the right/centrist vote..... LOL -
They did prove they are making money... as you say, form things other than groceries. The cumulative carbon tax issue drives up prices too as every step from seed to on the shelf add to the cost. Thing is though, those costs are business expenses. We, the consumer do not get to write off the taxes...oh wait, we get a couple hundred back every summer LOL. Lastly, what folks forget is we do not grow or supply a lot in Canada. I would hazard a guess and say over the course of a year, we import 80% of our food from across the world. Production and processing costs have gone up astronomically there too (olive oil is up 150%) and add our carbon taxes to that. So, to say, food costs are not a government or grocery store problem, they are a world problem

Pre 1900 times?? Were there trans, he/she/it, gay, asexual. bisexual, LGBTQ2+++ folks then or, is this a 20th and 21st century phenomenon?? If there were is there an increase in numbers or just empty closets? Or, its it a just because we can situation? Having coached kids for many many decades, the "helicopter parent" situation has become a real pain in the ass for anyone having to deal with kids.

Seems you are talking about an issue in NB and in your school district in particular. A PM (no matter which political party) will always say the least offensive thing about everything. I think you are assuming only the "left" (whomever that is actually) are stupid and woke (whatever that is). "Right" wingers can be stupid and woke too. Even middle of the roaders are capable of being fools. People are people with varied opinions and change their perspectives all the time. Everyone has opinions about everything, some "left" some "right" some middling and that is fine but to put things in a left/right bucket is not becoming to you.
