Texas Redistricting
Aristides replied to gatomontes99's topic in State Politics in the United States
Trump didn't win the popular vote in either of his wins. If you can't win the popular vote, your only alternative is gerrymandering and winning the electoral college and Congress. -
CUPE tears up Carney’s return to work order.
Aristides replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The IRB has ordered them back to work. If they refuse, the union can be subject to huge fines. They are probably due for a big raise. Workers gave up a lot of concessions when airlines were on the brink during things like the economic melt down and covid. As far as getting paid from the time they show up goes, that will be problematic. Being paid only when the aircraft is in motion is pretty much industry standard for FA's and pilots in North America and anything else would put the company at a disadvantage to their competitors. Apparently the company offered half pay for some of the time but we don't know what "some" means or what the union is demanding. -
I've probably read more history than you ever dreamed of. I'm old enough to have known camp survivors and gone to school with their kids and that's why I think you are an insult to their memory. Yes there was some overreach during Covid but comparing it to what the Nazis did is just a pathetic insult by someone who is really ignorant of history. For starters I read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich when I was 17, all 1250 pages of it and all six volumes of Churchill's The Second World War. Have you?

Atrocity! FFS, what a snowflake. You bore no responsibility for protecting society and those that did had to do so with limited knowledge of something unknown. I accept the fact they could have got some things wrong to begin with and had to adapt. That's what responsible people do but zealots can't. I didn't like restrictions anymore than you did but the enemy was a virus, not people. Your comparing them to the real atrocities committed by the Nazis just shows what an ignorant SOB you are. You are an insult to the victims of Nazi atrocities, and wouldn't know a real atrocity if it kicked you in the nuts.

WestJet & Sunwing -Airlines in Canada
Aristides replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Do you think police, military, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses etc should be allowed to strike? -
Look. I have no problem with people being critical of some of the things the government did during Covid, they probably deserve some of it. But worse than Nazis? If you actually believe that, you are an id!ot. Either that or incredibly ignorant.

WestJet & Sunwing -Airlines in Canada
Aristides replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, if the airline was to shut down completely it would take them a week to get going again. That would affect over half a million passengers, many of them stuck overseas. I understand the union's frustration but basically they work for an essential service. If they are going to force arbitration it is a lot better to do it soon rather than later. It's a crap shoot for both the union and the company, you don't know what an arbitrator is going to impose. -
WestJet & Sunwing -Airlines in Canada

Ryanair could start an airline in Canada if it met Canadian ownership rules. Virgin did in Australia which has the same rules. There are reasons most low cost carriers don't make it in Canada. https://financialpost.com/transportation/airlines/why-so-many-discount-airlines-fold-canada -

Anyone who hates liberals more than Nazis is one f*cked up excuse for a human being.

Texas Redistricting

It favours those in power at the time. It's a shit system that no self respecting democracy would touch with a barge pole. -

Both sides gerrymander. Just one more thing that makes the US electoral system a joke. -
