I think they are serious but like everyone else, they have to keep their economy going at the same time. The OP correctly states that China is being used as an excuse to roll back protections elsewhere.

I’ve never said they are a victim, just that we are being two faced when we buy all the stuff then blame them for the emissions it took to make it.

And we’re still the ones buying all the stuff they make for us.

So you are saying they could make all the crap we buy from them with no electricity. BC is importing power, how much more do you think we would need if we had to make all the stuff we buy from China. The port of Vancouver exports 10 million tons US thermal coal annually to China because US ports won't handle it.

No but you will criticize China for needing to use the energy required to produce everything you buy from them. Per capita, China ranks 25th in CO2 emissions. Canada is #12 and the US #16. Perhaps our appetite for manufactured products is as big a problem as China manufacturing them.

What do you think US energy consumption would be like if you had to produce all the stuff yourself that you import and how would you generate it?

With all of today's electronic methods of communication I don't think a postal system can ever make money unless maybe it becomes a major player in digital services itself. The status quo is not good enough but I don't see a postal service ever making money. If it could, we probably wouldn't need it.

You can't operate everything at a profit and still provide essential services. That's why we have governments.

California has the 4th largest economy in the world. It contributes 14.2% of US GDP with only 11.7% of the population.

China is by far the larges producer of wind and solar but as long as the west downloads its manufacturing it will always struggle to generate enough electricity to produce what we buy from them.

Canada Post needs to be rethunk but there is a definite need for it in more remote parts of Canada that are not served by courier services.
