I don't think math can be learned in a single evening on wikipedia. Yes, if you already know it and need to jump back for a refresher on one topic then it might help, but you are not going to be able to put it into practice without the practice (even if you knew it before). Things like simplifying in algebra might come back quickly, but do you remember the quadratic formula and would you be able to put it into practice today? Can you still solve trigonometry problems with a table or even a calculator? Certainly if you want to spend some time researching a single problem then yes today's resources make that possible, but is it efficient if you have many problems to solve.

Yes, certainly that has some merit. It does seem to clash with other unhealthy activities like smoking, which many people use to control their weight. That is probably an issue for commercial jets, but does it apply to fighter jets? Regardless, a fighter jet should have a lot more thrust than is necessary for takeoff because it needs the speed and acceleration for combat maneuvers; the thrust:weight ratio is much higher. While the thrust to engine weight ratio can be similar (make sure that is not what you compare), the thrust to airplane weight ratio is about 150% to 300% in fighter jets compared to airliners.

Thomas appears to want to join the Guiding program because the activities appeal to him. Now there are some practical considerations, just like when girls joined Scouting groups. First is there should be male leaders as well, just like it was important to have female leaders in scout groups to accommodate girls wanting to join. This group says it was for 14-26 year olds so we wouldn't need the same ratio as younger groups. The other side of to consider is how males would change the group, that was in some cases a problem with girls joining scouts in that they didn't want to do the same activities.

WWII seemed to glorify going to war in the general public, television was a big eye opener. While Canada didn't participate in Vietnam, I think we we also learned a big lesson from it. Unfortunately people have a habit of lashing out on a symbol of what they see wrong, so Soldierophobia grew in the latter and post- Vietnam era.
