  1. Jesus was a Jew - The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. - John 3:2. The first followers of Jesus were also Jews, it is only later that Gentiles also followed his ways (Acts 11). Christians are technically both Jew and Gentile.
  2. So far he hasn't provided any platform, other than to oppose what the current government is doing. I expect he will follow Patrick Brown's footsteps, in trying to whitewash his history and pretend to be a nice person.
  3. I have elected two governments, the Mike Harris one and the Justin Trudeau one. Harris messed up badly in his second term, Trudeau is only doing so-so and failed miserably on one of the main points I elected him (first past the post).
  4. I am not the one proclaiming the supremacy of the Bible. To me it is a bunch of fairy tales, perhaps very loosely based on events that have been heavily modified through "telephone tag". Please elaborate. I (not me personally but Biblical scholars) am not dating the Bible, I am dating the story the Bible tells. I don't care when the history book was written, I care about the event it relates. I can pick up many history books that talk about Samuel de Champlain sailing up the St. Lawrence, from them I get a good idea of when he arrive in places like modern day Quebec City, Montreal, lake Champlain, etc. I may not have an exact date and time of day, but I know what year. The Bible is a bit less defined, I may not know what year but I can get a good idea what decade or century depending on what event is being addressed.
  5. What? I said the Bible is dated by the begetting. Are you suggesting that current copies are invalid in that respect? If so then I claim equally that current copies are completely invalid in all other respects.
  6. All that begetting has allowed scholars to date the Bible. Are you suggesting that Noah actually lived 900 years, and that methods like carbon dating of organic tissue are wrong?
  7. Both Homo erectus and Neanderthals were extinct many 10's of thousands of years before the Bible begins.
  8. I see 17 verses in Deuteronomy & Exodus, not 10 commandments. If I was Catholic I would have a different interpretation of them then if I were Anglican, let alone Orthodox Christian, Jewish, Lutheran, etc. Depending on my religion, the first 3 or 4 are completely self serving - God proclaiming his omnipotence and demanding everyone supplicate themselves before him (her/it); I would say that is very radical or extreme. Only two are really incorporated into the legal system (prohibition on killing and stealing), and one might conjuncture that false witness does have some limited in context applicability. Coveting is more a quality of capitalism, so I would say it is pretty radical to prohibit it.
  9. Unless we are talking about homosexuals: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. - Leviticus 20:13 ... or fortune tellers: A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them. - Leviticus 20:27 ... or if you hit your parents: And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. - Exodus 21:15 ... or even if you curse them: For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him. - Leviticus 20:9 & Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. - Proverbs 20:20 ... don't even think of sleeping around: And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. - Leviticus 20:10 ... daughters of priests are to be burnt to death for their sexual transgressions: And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire. - Leviticus 21:9 Do we need to get into the countless passages for non-believers, blasphemy, and working on Sunday? Some of my personal favorites however are: Murdering little children for calling someone baldy: And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them. - 2 Kings 2:23-24 How about being mauled by a lion for refusing to hit someone: And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the Lord, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him. Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the Lord, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him. - 1 Kings 20:35-36 I could write an entire book on all the murder God has done or commanded to be done.
  10. Other cities have subways to maintain, I see the transitway as an alternative to a subway. Is it more or less expensive to maintain? Do you have any empirical data to support the notion that buses are no faster one the transitway than on regular roads? That of course would be during rush hours, not off peak hours which is meaningless.
  11. From our friend Taxme - The left wing liberal lying media like the CBC does their political thinking for them. Yes, the left wing media do think unlike the right wing media which just lies and doesn't think. From our other friend bush_cheney2004: Mueller cannot use evidence obtained illegally ("fruit of the poisonous tree"). Not sure what evidence you think was obtained illegally, you were referencing public videos.
  12. She has been a judge since the 80's, and practiced law out west before that but I don't know what her record was, do you?
  13. Latest news is Trump is making appointments to the federal bench of "lawyers" who have never tried a case in court.
  14. It is about 50/50 in Montreal these days, and the treads are rubber not heavy equipment (tanks or bulldozer) treads. Nope, city infrastructure is paid for by property taxes and the single occupancy vehicle drivers have 10-50 times the use of what bicycles use at the same price. The bicycle drivers are subsidizing your wasteful ways by a long shot.
  15. It appears that countries with a high standard of life have a low or negative population growth rate, perhaps improving the lot in life for everyone would help address population growth concerns. One big impediment to curbing population growth appears to be religion.
  16. Yes, all those fat bicycle riders cause significant damage to the bike lanes. We need more featherweight trucks instead.
  17. Yes, Trump became a lame duck on January 21, 2016. Yes, Trump does appear smart and intelligent to 62 million Americans.
  18. The President is not the law, you need a class in civics. He was fired on the recommendation of Rod Rosenstein, if you are to believe the President's official first letter. Of course he contradicted that many times since.
  19. Two children per male (or female) is a move towards depopulation and not population sustainability. Ok, that is your goal. I am not sure that is a "Liberal" goal, it seems all governing parties have followed that goal since our country was founded. The problem is that we listen to "economists", who are nothing more than bankers with a self interest who create models that further their wealth and then convince our politicians to follow that model. We need to recognize that the "economy" is purely an artificial construct, and we need to look at the real world (e.g. natural resource consumption, pollution, etc.) as the major drivers. Yes, we will run into some natural barriers but what they are an when we run into them is hard to speculate. We have relied on technology solutions ever since society has evolved from hunter/gatherer. The obvious technology solution to your immediate limitation will by hydroponics, but that itself might be obsoleted by future developments we cannot envisage today.
  20. The problem is that the so called economists (bankers with connections) that influence our politicians demand that we grow the population to drive their models. They don't really care how we grow it, but because their models have made it economically difficult for Canadian families to have more children, the politicians resort to immigration. We need new economic models that are not designed by bankers.
  21. Yes, we need to invest in alternative transport systems. The subways, trains, bicycle, and pedestrian networks in Europe are far superior. Many (most?) European cities have closed part of the downtown to road traffic entirely, creating large pedestrian malls; we have very few examples of that in Canada (Sparks street in Ottawa, and part of St. Catherine in Montreal for a few weeks in the summer being the exceptions). The bicycle networks are extensively developed, and along with dedicated bicycle lanes in the downtown they have well interconnected bicycle paths in the suburbs that connect with commuter rail transit.
  22. Did you just say that? You need to pause and think before hitting submit reply.
  23. Street calming is trying to address the excessive speeding that kills on city streets. Bicycle lanes take a very small fraction of real-estate, perhaps the single occupancy vehicle crown feels too entitled and anyone else that uses public spaces are the enemy. Roads are public spaces, why do single occupancy vehicle drivers feel entitled to 110% of the real-estate?
  24. I remember when a Canadian mayor got a lot of air time in the US. I believe the laugh value has a lot to do with some news.
  25. Cool image on that website, too bad it is over a year old.
