  1. Anybody that runs up the worst deficit by far (almost twice any previous one) and then attempts to control future governments deserves ridicule.
  2. He didn`t have time to change it after gaining power, becuase the US system exploded shortly thereafter. Hid did however give our banks a $120 billion bailout anyway.
  3. After the debate, Trump was again on his "crooked Hiliary" nonsense. Time to call him "freeloader Donald" for living large off the American taxpayer for years.
  4. Perhaps because Clinton provided clear answers and Trump didn`t.
  5. He was being lauded for having our banking system not fail, of course they didn`t realize that while he was in opposition he argued for the same lax regulations that caused the American banking system to go tits up.
  6. I think he was pointing out her youth.
  7. There is something to be said about putting term limits on the Executive office.
  8. Trump won, gosh dang it. Sure he lied, sure he was exposed to be a tax cheat, sure his 'looks'/'stamina' BS backfired big time, sure he demonstrated he is a racist, sure his lie about Obama being responsible for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq was exposed, it all doesn't matter. I like racist, lying, misogynist, because I aspire to be one myself.
  9. I didn't vote for McGuinty, I didn't vote for Wynne. What makes me a Liberal? The last time I voted for a major party in Ontario it was the corrupt incompetent scum Harris, and for that I am deeply ashamed. How does me asking for a better opposition make me a Liberal?
  10. Trade deficit was years before the price of oil dropped. China was roaring along early in the recession, 16%+ growth rate.
  11. Still not answered, giving a totally difference scenario does not answer the question I posed. How are we, or they, supposed to try someone in another country? Who does the prosecution, who provides the evidence, etc.
  12. Would you prefer Campanga and Intermeccanica? Would could also go with Dynasty and HTT Automobile. If you would like some history, McLaughlin acquired Chevrolet motors and merged them into General Motor Company of Canada. Let us not forget Bricklin.
  13. Boomers & Gen X are paying way more taxes than the millennials. Many grandpa's are also paying a lot of taxes, but a significant number are not.
  14. No, Canada needs to have a strong value added export economy. We have had many decades of growing positive balance of trade, until the previous government with its hewers of wood and drawers of water mentally turned us into consistent trade deficits.
  15. When you lead a country that has many decades of positive and increasing foreign trade surplus, and bring us into a consistent negative foreign trade situation, I would say you lack any credibility on the economy.
  16. Big mischaracterization of what has happened. I have started a new topic in the Technology section to continue this tangent. Basically targets were set by Congress through the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Last year Obama lowered those targets, and this past May he increased them over what he had lowered them to but are still below what Congress set long before he became President.
  17. This is a followup to a statement in another tread: "A recent story that no one has mentioned was of the Obama Administration’s approval of an increase in the ethanol concentration in the nation’s fuel supply, and how the current program has been a “raging success.” I guess if you consider causing all gasoline powered vehicles and devices endless problems, increasing the cost of both fuel and food, causing people in other countries to starve, and actually using more oil in the production of ethanol than the supposed savings a success then hip hip hooray!" There are 3 levels of ethanol in the automobile fuel supply: E10, E15, and E85. The number represents the percentage of ethanol in the fuel. All vehicles in the US are able to use E10 fuel, and only flex-fuel vehicles can use E85. Most vehicle manufacturers have not rated their non flex-fuels vehicles to be able to use E15, although some newer vehicles are entering the market that can. The legislation (Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007) was established by Congress (ie. before Obama) and set targets for how much total volume of ethanol in the nations fuel supply, and last year Obama made changes to the legislation that lowered the amount of ethanol below those targets. In May of this year he increased from what he set last year, but still below the 2007 set targets. Note that none of this changes the percent of fuel in the above grades, it is all about total volume. Ethanol is problematic for many reasons: The fuel will degrade over time. This is generally not a problem for vehicles that are regularly driven, but it does show up in seasonal equipment (lawnmowers, snowblowers, etc.). Ethanol only has about two thirds of the energy ontent of gasoline by volume. The end result is E10 gasoline will have about 3% lower fuel economy than petroleum only gasoline. Ethanol has a high cost of production. Some have argued there is a net loss of energy, while other have argued there is a net gain. The US department of Agriculture shows a 67% gain.
  18. The opposite of a progressive is a regressive. Thanks for stepping up.
  19. So what the frig does that have to do with health concerns. She was suffering from pneumonia, that is not a long term health concern. Many otherwise healthy individuals have temporary illnesses, that doesn't make them health concerns. The mindless Trump followers latch onto any silly notion because they are told lies by their lying leader.
  20. Again I ask, if someone commits a murder or rape in China a flees to Canada what do we do? The question has not been answered, despite pretending it was. Saying Canada is free to put them to trial is completely meaningless.
  21. There are no health concerns, just idiotic theories from the uneducated deplorables that hang around the liar Trump. If you think that facts mean anything to that gang, you are deluding yourself.
  22. So again I ask: So someone commits murder or rape in China, and then runs to Canada before being caught, what do you suggest? Do you want to harbour a murderer, rapist, etc? Do you want them roaming our streets freely? Neither of you addressed the question, are you running to be Trump?
  23. The traditional American work ethic? You mean where companies invest in their employees, they take them in, train them, establish a career path for those that succeed, and take care of them in retirement? ....or do you mean where the companies want free interns, minimum wage, outsourcing to Asia, no job security, and screw you when you get old?
  24. Yes, it does seem excessive. My guess is a 1 year lease was signed for about $1500/month which would not be unreasonable rent for a downtown Ottawa apartment, and getting short term rentals is never easy. The election was in October, Also perhaps they didn't want to yank the kids out of the middle of the school year which can be a major issue depending on what grade they are in. This is always a problem with relocating a family, everyone has other commitments and coordinating them is problematic. Selling a million dollar home as well takes time, between listing it, selling, and waiting for an agreed closing date, it is not surprising a few months would pass.
  25. I am confused. Perhaps we should have a different thread about aspirations about the future of Quebec and Canada because those two goals seem contradictory, but nothing is ever simple. I agree the media coverage doesn't help. They often have their own agenda and will focus on isolated events. Yes, pastagate did escalate very high and regardless if it got "resolved" it clearly demonstrated the idiocy. Yes, the media may not have followed up but the real news was the idiocy and not the resolution. It didn't solve the basic problem with OQLF, a bunch of mostly useless civil servants trying to justify their existence. There was a flap earlier this year about "grilled cheese" at a Quebec city restaurant; could you tell me how you would order one? I wouldn't be surprised if "hotdog" is next on their agenda. Yes, they are English (or Italian) words but they are also international. This would be no different than someone wanting to rename poutine or tourtière.
