  1. Rugby is difficult because of the physical demands on your body and that you both have to be strong and able to run for a long period of time. But the skill required to hit a baseball or hit an approach shot in golf that stops on a dime required a completely different skill set.
  2. Of course I believe that the UK had no ability to repel a direct assault from Germany. But I think that Hitler had two main goals in the early years of the War. First to get retribution for the Treaty of Versaille (taking France did this) and destroy the USSR. Invading the UK wasn't high on his list of priorities. The Lufwaffe didn't really have the type of heavy bombers that could bring a country to its knees like the Allies did so the Blitz, I would argue, was not as severe as it could have been. The bigger threat to the allies would have been if the North Africa campaign failed and Hitler had access to the Middle Eastern Oil Field. Because ultimately many the problems the Nazi's had for much of the war revolved around a lack of fuel. As a total side note. I was watching a show about the campaign in Burma. Had Burma fell and Japan gone into India (which really was too hot on the UK) and Rommel ended up defeating Montgomery. It doesn't take much imagination to think that Japan and Germany could have also linked up through the middle east.
  3. I made the assumption that this post was in direct response to Olp1fan's link that stated Hockey was the second most difficult sport to boxing. Therefore I contended that, as skills go, baseball on golf require a much more difficult skill set. If I mis-represented your true opinion I'm deeply sorry.
  4. How so? The Battle of Britain ended in 1940 and Barbarossa didn't start until 1941. Are you implying that's what saved the UK or what doomed the operation? The delay in Barbarossa meant that the Battle for Moscow had to happen in Winter which gave the USSR the advantage. Stalin used seasoned Winter fighters from Siberia to fend of the Wehrmacht. This coincided with Pearl Harbour and Stalin knew that Japan had it's sights on the US and not on Russia. Otherwise the Siberian troops probably wouldn't have been re-deployed. Another reason for the delay, I believe, was Hitlter telling Army Group Centre to assist Army Group South in taking Ukraine before taking Moscow. That was a tactical error. But I'm confused as to what the end-game in defeating the USSR would have been even if they had taken Moscow. Stalin wisely moved his industrial strength to the east so they could built up their might, plus they were receiving tons of aid from the US. I wonder if he thought he could link up with Japan in the east through Russia.
  5. I thought I knew Volleyball well but I have know clue what a 51 is.
  6. The idea of Daytime Precision bombing without fighter escort was, for the most part, folly. OK I won't call it limp-wristed but it was daft.
  7. Unless I really care about the team playing. I can't watch Soccer, is boring as eff. Regarding Volleyball. At a high-level you need to be physically fit, powerful and be able to jump (unless you're the setter) Spiking a ball isn't easy. But I'm not going to say it's one of the world's most difficult sports. But that's why a lot of people play it. Beach Volleyball is a blast!
  8. You could say that the US were actually "limp-wristed" about how they approached bombing Germany. The Eight Air Force did daytime raids on only military targets while the RAF was like "eff the Hun" and bombed entire cities under the cover of night. Many Americans died because they thought they could be civilized about how they attempted to take Germany out of the war. If the Mustang hadn't been invented the 8th Air Force would have been decimated.
  9. I reality I'm sure much of Germany would have loved to have surrendered to the Western Allies. But after the Yalta conference the fate of Germany was already decided. I'd imagine the Cold War would have turned into a real war had the Western Allies allowed all of Germany to surrender to them, and them only attempting to deny Stalin of East Germany.
  10. That's because it's very difficult. And it's not just hitting a fast ball but determining in a split second if it's an off-speed pitch or a in the dirt. And hitting the ball is only half the battle, you have to hit it by 8(catcher excluded obviously) people in a field.
  11. You're telling me it takes daily practice to learn to skate backwards? Puuuleese! Not saying elite hockey skating is a piece of cake but it's not the an extraordinarily difficult thing to do.
  12. You know the reason Soccer is so popular is because it's so accessible. Hockey is super expensive to play. The world's second most popular sport is volleyball, yet I don't see professional volleyball being such a popular spectator sport either.
  13. No but you're implying that skating is what makes Ice Hockey the most difficult sport. Something that almost any able bodied person can learn to do with a little practice.
  14. I bet some lefties consider mowing down dozens of Banzai a war crime.
  15. Not that I doubt that, but have a link to support this? Seems like everyone is getting together to make the Park look better than before. If anything, this whole Occupy thing was positive for that alone.
  16. Which is why Hockey players only do short shifts.
  17. Sure they can. Why didn't the Germany demand the surrender of the Nazi party? Why did the soldiers keep fighting past the Battle of the Bulge? Operation Valkerie was evidence enough to people in Germany thought that the war was lost. They must have known defeat was only a matter of time. In-order to make invasion of Germany cost as few allied lives as possible all possible threats had to be taken out. It wasn't like they systematically killed German civilians like the Germans killed Jews. Dresden was full of refugees at the time of the bombing. Who knew what potential threats lied there if they city had to be taken by ground troops. Here are three reasonable reasons for bombing Dresden I found after a simple Google search. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/bombing_of_dresden.htm
  18. Strength like that would be helpful to a Hockey player. That's why they are different skill sets. Occasional sprinting in Soccer is quite different than going all out for 30 seconds to a minute and potentially taking or giving body checks, like in Hockey. From what I see when I, rarely I'll admit, watch soccer the sprinting is to get to a ball just to pass it off or take another shot. And when the ball is in the other side of the field they can pretty much saunter around the field.
  19. So? 5-year-olds can learn how to skate. Hitting a ball going 90+ mphs require an inherent skill "God-Given" skill.
  20. I'm sure they also think the Holocaust was a hoax and the the Nuremberg laws were a reasonable compromise.
  21. Apparently the government ensures that private insurance companies can maintain a 12% profit margin.
  22. The type of Moral relativism displayed by people who complain about the allies in WW2 is quite frankly sickening. There's quite simply no comparison to how the allies treated prisoners/civilians and how the Axis did.
  23. This morning on the radio I heard that if the make it 15 cents they may be able to keep service levels maintained. But hey, paying more for less service? You you live in Ontario right? That's what our provincial government does best.
  24. Didn't they get back on their feet because Oil was found offshore of Newfieland?
  25. What "unknown" atrocities are you accusing the Allies of? Going to bitch about Dresden next?
