  1. Well is the question what's more physically taxing or what's more difficult. Being a Professional Baseball hitter and/or golfer could be deemed far more difficult than being a hockey player.
  2. WAHHHHH!!!!! a 15 cent fare hike. Do you people have any idea how much GO-Transit costs to use?
  3. Manchuria? Russia took care of much of that. The Hawks in Washington stubbornly wouldn't allow Japan to keep their emperor as a figurehead. Had they relented on that earlier they wouldn't have needed to drop the bomb. Ultimately Japan did keep to keep their emperor. I believe the goal of dropping the bomb was to end the war before Russia could jump in and take some of their spoils. Even after Japan surrendered the USSR kept fighting the Japanese to expand their influence. Which, I would argue, was part of the reason the Korean conflict happened.
  4. The Japanese interment was no doubt regrettable but as far as WW2 war crimes go, that one was pretty tame.
  5. When you look at history ultimately dropping the bomb was far more a political move to show muscle towards Russia than actually ending the war. Japan was looking for peace and posed no threat to the Pacific anymore.
  6. Well it would have made victory much more difficult. But history has proven that the Axis didn't have the resources to keep that war going. Let's say they took Hawaii. Eventually the industrial strength that crushed the axis would have have turned the tide. Japan was fighting a war on like 3 fronts, they had no shot at keeping that empire spreading at the pace they went in 1942.
  7. Pearl Harbour was a blessing in disguise. I'm sure once Winston Churchill heard about it he did a happy dance. There were many warnings of a Japanese attack and not to be a conspiracy theorist but I suspect they were shhh's because the isolationists needed to be shocked into the war. Also the idiocy of Hitler for declaring war on the US after Pearl Harbour was a death warrant for Germany.
  8. Watching you people debate is hilarious sometimes. Why are you guys debating this? Hockey Players and Soccer Players have completely different skill sets. Fast Twitch and Slow Twitch Muscle Fibers. Every see a Soccer Player built like a truck? Soccer Players have to have endurance muscles (Slow Twitch) that suits running for 90 minutes with few breaks. I suspect many soccer players couldn't bench 225 lbs. This is similar with Basketball players. I remember Kevin Durant couldn't even up up 180 lbs once during the NBA Combine. He's still one of the best players in the NBA. Where as a Hockey or Football players needs fast twitch muscle for short sprints and strength. You have Wide Receivers in football that can do 4.2 40 yard dashes but don't expect them to do that for 90 minutes. You have hockey players that take 30 second shifts then are gassed cuz they're going full out for that entire shift. Now a sport that has to combine to two is Rugby. That's a tough sport because you have to be super fit for long plays (with few if any subs) and be strong at the same time.
  9. Comparing Elite North American Professional Sports to European Soccer doesn't work. The NHL, NFL, MLB and NBA are the top leagues in their respective sports. They don't have comparable leagues anywhere in the World. The champions of these leagues are the best club team in the world, no debate. If the Green Bay Packers played the BC Lions 100 times the Packers would win 100 times. Ditto if, say, Moscow Dynamo played the Bruins. In European Soccer there are many comparable leagues. So they pick top teams in each league England, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Germany etc. And they have a tournament to decide the top Club team in Europe. I think they even have a tournament with Champions of different Football Federations. Toronto FC is part of the CONCOCAF Champions League. They're still Alive I believe. They have a game against the LA Galaxy early next year in that tournament. And yes, instead of using Best of 7 series' they use home and home series' where they they take the combined score in both games to decide the winner. They also put more weight on Goals scored in the opponents Stadium.
  10. You need to win four best of 7 rounds to win the Stanley Cup not 3. And I know exactly how the playoffs will go next year. You have 4 conferences of 7 or 8 teams. Top 4 teams in each conference make the playoffs. They play two in-conference rounds and 4 conference winners are re-seeded based on their regular season record and two more rounds are played to decide the Stanley Cup. Sports aren't you thing dood.
  11. Same deal with protesting Israel when so many nearby countries are much worse regarding human-rights. It's slacktavism.
  12. I saw interviews of her, post throne speech stunt. I seriously doubt she's some political savant.
  13. Not my criticism it's cybercoma's. I'm not really all that concerned with the instances of injuries in MMA. No one is saying it isn't a violent sport. The question is, do they have no right telling kids about the peril's of bullying.
  14. Well it calls your study into question if they can't even get the math correct.
  15. Kay. Why cuz like Hitchens says, she told people to embrace their poverty? I'm not Catholic and I haven't researched the evils of Mother Theresa so I'll yield to your expertise on this.
  16. I don't mind the sound it makes. The newer onces are silent. I also think the Avatar thing is lame but oh well. I'm not as interested in the movies, Netflix is pretty good. But I accidentally deleted my wife's recording of New Girl last week. If there was an onDemand option for TV shows included in my Live bill that's pretty awesome. They better not raise the price of Live though.
  17. Advocating Mother Teresa in public school is wouldn't be separating church and state. I could see protests happening for that.
  18. Apparently an evil 1 percenter private landscaping company has donated their time and effort to re-sod the park Pro Bono. I'm sure the City's Outsider workers are thrilled about this. http://www.680news.com/news/local/article/307272--st-james-park-restoration-to-begin-this-week-after-sod-donated
  19. What was the downside of this event that you were expecting? Sounded pretty harmless to me.
  20. Well what type of injuries are we talking about? Black eyes eyes and cuts? OR concussions and ACL tears sprained fingers. UFC fighters have a fight once every few months. Their fight is usually only 15 minutes too. Anyway this issue is currently moot. The event the Star was raging about happened yesterday. I haven't heard reports of MMA riots happening in Toronto schools as of yet this morning. But it's early. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/12/06/ufc-fights-bullying
  21. Part of this re-vamped Dashboard includes Bing Searches and Youtube so I'll assume there's some internet browsing capabilities.
  22. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2011/12/05/auditor-general-ontario-spending.html?cmp=rss I don't want to read the link, it'll just depress me.
  23. Rogers does cable TV too, it's not just a cell provider. You can only get Cable provided by Rogers in the immediate GTA. Otherwise it's something like Shaw or Cogeco, no where near as good. Microsoft is clearly partnering with Rogers to provide content. Not sure what's in it for Rogers but I suppose they have access to a larger customer base than they have access to now, It also does an end-around to get to Bell customers. They can always sell ads that go on the interface as well as before each onDemand video starts.
  24. UFC is definitely an acquired taste. I like watching some of the PPV's. There are certain fighters I try to follow. But lots of gyms are teaching MMA for fitness purposes similar to how they have boxing gyms.
