Political Junkies are treating the Comey testimony like a sporting event. I doubt he can say anything that will change anyone's preconceived opinions.

What, in your words, is the difference between an "order" and a "directive"? The latter is Comey's word.

I guess you misinterpreted it, Lynch asked him to lie and adopt the word "matter"

43% more ice in Antarctic since 1980. Thwaites is safe. http://nsidc.org/data/search/#keywords=ice+sheets/sortKeys=score,,desc/facetFilters=%7B%7D/pageNumber=1/itemsPerPage=25
-
I already explained to you how that works didn't I? GW causes more precip. leading to less salt surface water which increases the freeze temp, so therefore more surface (shallow) ice. Anyway Thwaites is not safe according to actual scientists. The warmer surface temp along with increased sea level "greases the wheels" under it. One way or the other it's heading north.
-
Wow. So if it gets warm then it'll get cold? And actual scientists say you're wrong, as I've cited.

What do you imagine war with China to be like?
You don't have a clue.
But suffice to say they've been at war with the West since they attacked us in Korea.
-
I suspect it would be WW3.
So I guess they can continue to de-stabilize Western Economies through disease all they want.
They're the ones that buy up all the Debt anyway.

China was once a close friend of the West...Nationalist China, that is. Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek, Kuomintang...etc.
The Allies flew supplies over the Himalayas and fought hard on the ground the the Burma Theater...together with the Chinese. The Flying Tigers, Chindits and such...all that legend stuff resulted.
During WW2, the Communists under Mao refused to fight the Japanese for the most part...preferring instead to use their Allied given supplies to attack the Nationalists.
Today, Nationalist China has been reduced to Taiwan.
THAT is what we should encourage for China...dump the bloody Reds.

Herd Immunity unlikely in the United States.
- Show previous comments 32 more
-
Regardless, it doesn’t matter if herd immunity is achieved in the fall vs late spring. Enough people will have been vaccinated or have immunity from being previously infected to result in low level case rates and even lower level death and hospitalization. This story is just more panic porn.
-
But are enough people going to get vaccinated? Seems the rate is levelling off in the US.
I think the variants will play a factor in how effective previous infections protects one.
Up until recently it was agreed upon that most young people will handle COVID-19 rather well, in most cases. Variants have blown that theory out of the water.

Stephen Harper once got grief for going to a Hockey game on the Government's dime. JT just flew a Canadian Indian Chef to India on the government's dime.

The State of Alabama has Zero ICU beds available due to a COVID-19 surge.
Get into a serious car accident? Tough Nuggies!
- Show previous comments 31 more
-
That doesn’t seem to be working as well as we thought.
-
Because people aren't getting vaccinated.
Back to the beginning of the thread. Alabama has no ICU capacity. Not because their supply is lacking, but because their vaccination rate is embarrassingly low.
The solution isn't to hire more nurses, while droves are quitting. It's to get people vaccinated.
-
It’s people’s right to not get vaccinated if they choose. Why would you risk shutting down society over and over, destroying children’s school years to make a political point? Train more nurses so that they don’t get burned out. There should have been a federal program a year ago.

The Stephen Harper International Terminal has a nice ring to it and they could just use the acronym for short.

The Saskatoon airport was named after that other rarity, a Western PM. Diefenbaker.
But lets pile on the hatred for Harper.

Over 50,000 COVID-19 cases in the US. Daily deaths back over 400. Even prominent Republicans are speaking out against Anti-Vaxxers. They know they're going to have to own this.

There was a Canadian study recently that said most people that died of covid were highly likely to have died sometime that year regardless of covid.
-
You mean your True North study analyzing stats from 2020?
Again, it doesn't take into account variants and the worst case counts seen during the pandemic this Spring
Because younger people were getting sick, the death-rate was less, but it didn't mean Hospitalization wasn't skyrocketing.
This is why lockdown measures were required! You didn't do anything to stem the infection death rates would have skyrocketed. Hospitals would have had to triage people and unplug those they thought may not survive.
Like seen in the US in the winter, before they got the vaccine.
Lockdowns were a preventative measure, and they worked.
-
Another reason death in Canada was less than a country like the US, was because public safety measures stayed in place for most of the pandemic.
And they still are in place.
The US lowered their guard before reaching a good vaccination rate and now there are parts of the US back to where they started.
-
Biden's goal of 70% first-dose vaccination by July 4th is an admission that demand for vaccination will plummet.
- Show previous comments 28 more
-
Yes, as cases continue to decline rapidly, many will forgo the vaccine for now. Also, politicians like to set goals the can easily meet, and then claim success. This is really a non-story.

"Canada probably won't reach herd immunity against COVID-19 anytime soon" (if ever)....no kidding.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/herd-immunity-threshold-canada-covid-1.6013685
-
From your citation (which is just an opinion column):
QuoteIn the United States, vaccine hesitancy is increasingly seen as a major and perhaps permanent barrier to herd immunity. The vaccine rollout south of the border got off to a fast start but has been slowing as time goes on and the supply of doses starts to outpace demand.

Trump Tweeted today that that sometimes 100,000 people die from the Flu. Last time that happened was 1968. The CDC Estimates anywhere from 12-62k annual deaths in the last 10 years. But the Dems are the liars LOL! https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

Anything to get away from Michelle Obama's lie!
-
So again quibbling about Michelle Obama completely distracts from the fact that Trump told a bold face lie about the COVID-19 infection rate in New Zealand. I guess that's the tried and true tactic.
-
Also note, the article referenced said the claim was misleading. Not a lie.
So who's the liar?

Back to the guy that died, his name was Chris and he had a show with his live partner Steven and Chris was the comic of the two and mostly women were the supports of the show on CBC. Chris was a really nice person, born in TO but moved to Nfld. Sad to hear he's gone. but came back to Toronto.

Saskatchewan is sending ICU patients to Ontario and needs the military helps with their COVID situation. This is what happens when proper COVID precautions are not taken. AND when public health measures are lifted too early.
Saskatchewan has more people hospitalized with COVID than in all of Ontario currently.

So that's one Hospital postponing 7 surgeries. Not an entire province cancelling them all until further notice.
-
Hahaha, that's cute that you think it's just one hospital, one time, in one province that ever cancelled surgeries during flu season. You are a special kind of willfully blind.

It’s a religion to these people. They’re ignorant because the media doesn’t broadcast flu season problems on a daily basis like they do with covid.

I think it's safe to say, that anyone who holds water for the Mantle of Trumpism, going forward, can easily be grouped into that rabble that invaded the Capitol yesterday.
Those people weren't intellectually objecting to an election result they disagreed with, they were rioting because "their" country is quickly moving away from them.

Yes, Democrats technically control all of congress. But with razor thin margins. No, he won’t be able to make D.C. a state. Red state democrats in the senate have already insisted they will not be supporting anything radical.
-
How is that radical? DC is larger than many states.
Controlling the Senate is huge. McConnell obstructed many bills. This sheltered his caucus from voting on many things. Now they'll have to at least put their names to things like COVID-19 Stimulus.
-
Take it up with the red state Democrats in the senate who aren’t on board with D.C. statehood. It’s unconstitutional. It’s never going to see the light of day in a 50/50 senate, and only a 4 seat margin in the house. I have no idea why you think that’s a good idea anyways. Other than for senate packing purposes. Which is disgusting and anti-democratic. Once again, you’re a complete hypocrite.

No, you fight mask mandates and lockdowns and vaccine passports and laws against shooting people in the face.
-
No I don’t fight mask mandates. I do fight lockdowns because they’re destructive, especially to children. Anyone that really cares about children would recognize that.
-
What about when Manitoba's ICUs are full and you're whining about them sending patients to Ontario? Only people who hate children would call for restrictions on indoor gatherings in that situation?

If climate change was an urgent issue, leftists would/should be organizing sanctions and tariffs on Chinese goods to force them to act sooner than 2030. Until then STFU. Canada shouldn’t be subsidizing China’s refusal to act. We’ve done more than enough.

All the while China is becoming a world leader in Battery production and EV adoption.
If we just wait until China stops building Coal fired plants to innovate to where the Green economy is headed, we'll have to buy all our Batteries from China anyway.
-
I'm all for preparing for EVs but I don't see Canada doing much other than subsidizing the purchase of them. Who's building battery plants except Americans?
