People lost their children and were then harassed by a$$holes who believed this POS. Why must everything be about your extreme political partisanship.2 points

Sometimes I'm reminded there may still be hope for humanity. Alex Jones, one of the world's most shameless hacks and ridiculous conspiracy theorist, is ordered to pay $4M to the parents of a Sandy Hook shooting victim. Mr. Jones, as many as you may know, spent years telling the world that this was a hoax and the parents were paid actors and other such brainless nonsense. https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/jury-alex-jones-defamation-case-begin-deliberations-punitive-damages-2022-08-05/ The mere idea that this sort of conspiracy would even be possible is baffling to me, considering the thousands of people who'd have needed to be involved to make up a "hoax" like this and keep it a secret, but Alex Jones never cared. All that mattered to him was that he could yell at the camera, and rile up the fools who watched him by telling them exactly what they wanted to hear. Whoopsy. Free speech only goes so far. When you're deliberately lying to people in order to make a buck, and when those lies are so egregiously shameless and harmful, and when the idiots who listened to you to harass and threaten people because they believe your made-up bullshit, the Law says you can be liable. Even a Texas jury agrees.1 point

I live in Toronto. I have learned to keep my personal opinions quiet in public and at work. It's a very sad situation for exruralites and conservatives like myself.1 point

Here in NB they have a fairly new system, for minor medical vists, now you contact the hospital via phone and they set up a zoom vist with a nurse practitioner, and if you need a prescription then they send it to your drug store.1 point

Perhaps I'm not sure. Here's a great article discussing this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/03/05/why-are-urban-rural-areas-so-politically-divided/ I suppose I use the word 'acquiescence' is that I see people in urban centers making ridiculous decisions. Take Toronto... Traffic from hell...but we got bike lanes everywhere. A crosstown train line that never goes into operation. Shootings and stabbings nightly...but cops tell me there's not enough of them by at least half. Our Pride Parade is an exhibition of indecent exposure and leud acts...with no cops allowed. Regular references to 'colonialists' and 'White oppressors' in reference to rural folk and their proud heritage. And just how do these asinine issues arise? Because urban folk obviously think this is all OK because they keep voting for it.1 point

You extremist types hate to take responsibility for your actions, don't you. His lies had a direct influence on these assholes, kinda like handing a gun to a guy who says he wants to kill someone.1 point

Texas has a punitive damages cap of $750,000 per person so that plus $4.1 million is $4.85 million total1 point

What was so remarkable to me about the protests that I saw was how friendly and multicultural they were. I was also astonished to see pro-choice women and Christian farmers walking side by side. I realized that our very constitutional freedoms were at stake. This movement was not just about the disenfranchised pushing back either. There was tremendous support from civil liberties groups and intellectuals, but supporting the movement presented real risks, as the government and state-funded media painted it as radical right wing, Trumpian, unscientific, etc. The American left was more tuned in and knew this was no January 6 rehash.1 point

yeah, I used to work for the CBC on contract me & Rex Murphy used to hang out at the CBC broadcast center he's such a down to earth & decent fellow now the CBC calls him a " Far Right White Supremacist" it's absurd1 point

I liked and valued the CBC for similar reasons, but that CBC is gone. The woke programming, cancel culture (Cherry, Mesley, etc.), as well as the softball reporting on government have demonstrated that the CBC has succumbed to the same pressures and problems we see in education and woke-green organizations like Disney and Coke. I refuse to support my tax dollars going towards indoctrinating my kids to feel ashamed of themselves and their country, to whitewash unconstitutional government behaviour, and to inculcate views that are clearly left wing, quite far left actually. I just can’t take that organization seriously anymore. Subsidize the broadcast signal if need be so the remote areas get content, but otherwise let the content fight on its own merit for advertising dollars. I’m tired of the “We know better what Canadians should want and think” from the CRTC and CBC. The cultural argument is weakening because Canadians do well internationally in music, film, etc. The saddest day for me in Canadian programming was when TV Ontario canceled A Night at the Movies (formerly Magic Shadows). It contained countless hours of Elway Yost’s interviews with all the great actors and directors from around the world. I loved watching the movie of the night and seeing the interviews. I learned so much about these figures and film in general. For some odd reason TVO replaced it with second rate local documentaries. I don’t know who made that editorial decision or why. The CBC similarly cannibalizes its successes. HNIC has lost its edge. The comedies feel canned and politically correct to the point of nausea.1 point

there is no point in arguing with you about it we have totally divergent views as to the nature of the constitution but I feel no need to convince you of anything you are entirely welcome to your views where I come from1 point

there's no point in trying to reason with the left these people are utterly totalitarian if you are not an adherent to their orthodoxy never mind having no rights, they simply want to destroy you, because you are infidel that being said, almost all the Gen Z males I encounter are already on the right I don't have to convince them, they are telling me how Canada has become totalitarian the younger males are being driven to the right by the lunacy of the Millennials the future is right wing, the pendulum has already begun to swing back I've made so many new friends, who are so young I have these 21 year old men hanging out on my deck, talking about John Locke & Milton Friedman I wouldn't encourage anyone to join the Woke Canadian Forces none the less, all these men would make great soldiers I admire them, it took me many years to figure out what they already know at 21 when I was their age, I was just drinking & partying & dating girls while these lads are plotting how they are going to become millionaires there is a right wing counterculture, and it is very young1 point

You were clearly raised on state-funded propaganda and didn’t see how tainted the coverage of the protests were in mainstream media. There was no desecration of memorials by protesters, unless you consider putting a flag by Terry Fox or dancing by a memorial desecration. The veterans guarded the memorial. A court injunction stopped the honking. The barricades were removed before the Emergencies Act was imposed. We’re sick of having to repeat these facts over and over. Oh and there was almost no coverage of the beating of peaceful protesters that was caught on camera. The Indigenous older lady who was trampled by a horse was almost ignored. Millions supported the protests. Freezing the bank accounts was a total violation of constitutional rights, though there were many violations. Trudeau didn’t meet any of the protesters and maintained the vaccine mandates. He also called the protesters misogynists and racists and said, “Should we tolerate these people?” Even Democrat commentators like Bill Maher and Beri Weiss were disgusted. The convoy was a movement of international significance. It provided an important counter to government overreach. These protesters took personal risks to the extent of losing their business licenses or having their assets seized. The Trudeau government acted cowardly and totalitarian. I learned that our rights are not well protected and our government isn’t really accountable to the people. In fact, it takes a lot of direction from unaccountable international bodies. I’ve never seen such poor federal leadership.1 point

While I agree with most of what you say, there could be better ways to promote faster throughput. The onus is on politicis to do things like this, figure it out. Not tell us some virtue-signalling BS intended for whatever good feels. Do your job, ye heathens. Even without being a CEO of a major health network, I can come up with some suggestions. Schools full? Create more schools. Lower the tuition costs for all health care training, including mental health where they aren't always filling up classes, but where it's needed. You see, the schools are "full" because they base it on the number of jobs available in the market. No jobs available, schools full. Obviously it begs the question, do we have enough beds, labs and clinics to meet the needs of the population. Open more beds, labs and clinics. They in turn create demand for more trained professionals, so make with the schools. Let's go, let's go. .... For those who do not habla, old men like me are the problem. We have a memory, we remember. I remember a time when our local hospital had about 600 beds, that was back in the '90's. Now it's down to 400. ER capacity is less than before as well. But you people don't know that. You have no memroy (sic)1 point

Culture is one of the CBC selling points, CBC radio for some reason is the only radio station you can get to in the middle of nowhere, where you can hear all the latest trends in Canadian culture like a 2 hour special on how to make maple syrup while driving across northern Ontario nothing creates a good rubbernecking secession than that topic. And where would we put all that excellent Canadian content like the friendly giant, littlest hobo, corner gas, Schitt's creek, letter Kenny...and they say we don't have culture... I mean that's top-quality content right there.1 point

Needless to say, the reason we needed to protect our health care system from being overwhelmed is more painfully obvious. But of course years of right wing complaining about having to bear the cost of public health put us behind that eight ball long before COVID made things worse.1 point

I do, however, understand why the majority of people are blindly trusting right now. All of our institutions have presented the public with this scenario: The real answer has not even been presented to them. And anyone who asks "Isn't the answer......4?" is told that 4 doesn't exist.1 point

No need to shout at yourself, your majesty. As you know, I'm a patient guy. I can explain it to you again. The Republicans never stopped the bill. It was held up, delayed while they discussed a budgetary gimmick that could have been used to misdirect funds to Democrat pet projects having nothing to do with helping veteran's. Nobody was against the bill to help veterans. The bill had passed the Senate once before in June. It went back to the house because a tax provision can't originate in the Senate. The House sent a tweaked bill back to the senate with a budgetary gimmick attached. 27 senators that had voted for the original bill held the new version up to discuss amendments. The Dems refused to amend. They voted again and the bill passed. I don't see where you're seeing flip flopping there. Both sides were always for the bill. There was discussion over whether the new provision could be exploited to add pork. The Dems promised that wasn't what was happening and the Republicans went back to their original pro-vote. Did you see where Jon Stewart went hysterical when a couple of guys tried to explain things to him. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/jon-stewart-melts-down-jack-posobiec-outside-capital Eventually though even he calmed down and listened to reason. If he really is your hero you should learn from him. Everybody was for the bill from the beginning. Stewart wanted to stir up controversy out of a misunderstanding on how the normal process of discussion in the Senate works.1 point
