News media has never really been not biased. It could be more balanced though. That’s why Fox News is so important in the United States. It provides a little balance to the rest of the mainstream media.

I grew up in a small, rural and still pretty conservative area - as in they primarily vote conservative and in the last election, voted in another conservative. Yet, on social issues they are mostly left-leaning and we agree more than we disagree; it's really only on fiscal management that I would call them conservative and even then we're not that far apart. Right-leaning people on this forum sound like the people in my hometown, on steroids. The hatred expressed here for 'lefties' isn't found among the conservatives in my family or their community at large; their attitude seems to be that we have different political ideas and while mine are pretty stupid, I'm not an evil person who deserves to be drawn and quartered. My partner often listens to right-wing radio stations and rants about how the world as we know it is being destroyed by things like immigration, Canada's debt, children being forced to change gender and other right-wing complaints though he hasn't gotten to "woke" people yet. Yet, he consistently votes NDP because at heart he believes that people deserve respect and equality, and that government shouldn't be swayed by Big Business lobbyists; he doesn't see either Conservatives or Liberals actually supporting what he believes is important, so he votes NDP because they do promise those things, are untried and might be better than our current choices. The point being that your relatives are not much different than the rest of Canadians - it's you that sees them as being part of the 'enemy'. Partisans on both sides demonize the other. Demonizing means that lies must be told about the other side in order to make them seem more unreasonable than they really are, and insist that the other ideology will destroy our culture and society. Both are equally wrong, imo. (I've also made that mistake, and must remind myself that we're not that different, and that it's wrong to paint all conservatives as unreasonable based on what I see on this forum.)

Why Liberals were reelected: the Moderate vote goes for the Liberals in urban areas, and people over 65 voted massively for them. I find this forum to also show the Conservatives as being well represented: they are out of their minds when it comes to Trudeau's reign, and sound foolish criticizing it like they do so. When you hear a Tory speak about the fact that Liberals are holding power, it is like the end of the world is coming. They can not pinpoint where exactly is the downfall of our civilization, but they say it's happening. This kind of mentality crystallized the electorate rather than convince.

Canada is unique in that it has pretty much no conservative media whatsoever. The National Post is more center or left of center. Just not rabidly so like the Globe and Mail. It also has very few think tanks or foundations that are conservative. There is the Fraser Institute but really they are just policy wonks. The Taxpayer federation is there but its not overtly conservative.

This isn't something that would bother the Trudeau Liberals in the least since they are very strongly pro-China. The Niagara Independent Trudeau no doubt opposes any kind of pact like this, no surprise there.

Also, if people who've had the vaccine die, then it's a vaccine death. Clearly, getting Covid is a much safer option than getting the vaccine when you count properly.

it violated other rights, not a right to an abortion, which was never a right in Canada in America, apparently a right doesn't have to exist before the Supreme Court can claim someone violated that imaginary right while violating an actual right to create the legal justification to enforce that imaginary right that's why Roe v Wade is such a bad decision it sets a terrible precedent thankfully Canada had the good sense not to do that

free speech goes further than you left wing nut jobs think it should free speech doesn't only include speech everyone likes if it did, you wouldn't need it to be a right in the first place, because no one would ever call for it to be banned free speech is a right that must be protected from government infringement, specifically because of people like you who want to ban speech they don't like

freedom of speech is more important than some nurses and doctors being more stressed for nonsensical reasons speech not being "respectful" is not grounds to ban it some people being uncomfortable with speech is not grounds to ban it a pandemic is not grounds to ban speech willy nilly either all of your reasons to ban it are stupid reasons you simply want to ban protests you don't agree with and are grasping for straws to try and justify it

On Sept 9th, out of 130 BC Covid patients in ICU, 32 were under 50 and another 25 were in their sixties. None of them were vaccinated. 90% of BC Covid patients in ICU are unvaccinated and they are currently plugging up 20% of the provinces ICU beds. The average ICU stay of a Covid patient is 21 days and the cost is $51,000. Six times the cost of treating a heart attack patient. The unvaccinated's "choice" is having a big impact on the health care system and everyone else in the province who needs medical care. Under 50's are not boomers, the youngest boomers are now in their late fifties.

How about this solution: People are allowed free speech but they have to use their real names - no fake accounts. I suspect that few will want to put their name behind actual hate mongering, and few will want to LIKE postings of that kind.
