  1. They could at least have retreated within the house until reinforcements arrived. He was known to the police as a disturbed individual - just sending two cops over there was the wrong thing to do. They could have asked another family member present whether there was a gun in the house. The reality is that they got into a situation they weren’t prepared for, panicked and escalated to deadly force when it probably wasn’t required. It’s alleged he was already on the ground when he was shot. If body cameras weren’t worn (I believe it’s still being implemented there) we’ll probably never know the truth about that.

  2. A former ESPN reporter, Chris Palmer, was on his twitter account, lustily cheering on the rioting & arson when a low-income housing building in his city was being burned down. He sung a different tune when the rioting got too close to his gated complex: So when they were destroying other people's businesses and homes it was AWESOME!!!!!! Then when they came within 100 yards they were "animals who didn't belong in his neighbourhood" lol. The little bitch called the cops. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that evil? Aren't police forces supposed to be defunded now? I can promise you that there's not a single person who posts on this forum who would support the destruction of their own home or business, but all of these little hypocrites were ok with it when it was happening 500 miles away. "It's just a part of the overall protests. There's a good reason for it." Ok Chris Palmer.

  3. Obviously, nobody in law enforcement sets out to kill a person who has called for help. The best strategy is to try to minimise the incidence of this particular outcome.

  4. I agree that public disturbances and disorderly conduct are worthy of attention from law enforcement. It’s all in the how. I’d rather put up with seeing the odd stumbling fool in a park carrying a bottle around but not hurting anyone than see people get ticketed or hauled off for drinking in the park. It’s of a matter of degree, but certain laws seem to give keen zealots the green light to be assholes and shake people down who just want to socialize and relax in a park. This is especially important when the bars are closed and there’s really nowhere else to meet friends.

  5. This was a good idea for a topic, and a rational post with ideas/beliefs which are widely held and need to be fully understood without bias or prejudice in order for people to live peacefully. I really appreciate where you're coming from Zg. Of course we will have differences of opinion here, as I'm a law and order guy and you're largely a "safe space" person, but I'll do my best to start a positive exchange. I agree that no "force" should be used on peaceful protestors. *However* If you agree that rioting has to be stopped, then you must have noticed that peaceful protests morph into something else as the dusk approaches, and there are no "good protests" after dark. If you're still with me, then you might agree that dispersing crowds an hour before dark is necessary because it's not an instantaneous process. So mandatory curfews on protests are going to be needed if you want a guarantee of no force. Sad but unavoidable imo. Also, there needs to be some kind of a protocol for weeding aggressive protestors out of the situation. This is where it gets really messy. It just takes on or two agitators to turn a crowd into a mob, and it's just as easy for a crowd to turn into a mob when police move on disturbers like that. IMO this is the friction point, or the spark that ignites the flame. How od you deal with this specific scenario? Johann Hari's "Rat Park" Ted Talk should almost be mandatory viewing for people who want to weigh in on the topic of drugs. I'm no expert though, and this is a huge issue worthy of it's own thread. Public drinking is allowed to some extent, but the right for people to enjoy their property (owners and tenants both) can easily be infringed on by the nuisances of public drinking. The laws against drinking in public aren't there so that cops can bash in the skulls of anyone they catch drinking, they're there so that police can use their discretion when necessary. If you take those laws away then police have to wait until "after there's a real problem" before they can nip the problem of public drunkenness in the bud. I've been a drinker myself and been in my share of situations, I've never had an issue with the police. I play ball in parks in BC and the cops know that every team there has a beer cooler and there are people smoking weed all over the place. They don't do jack. I had an RCMP officer on a team that I played on in Bolivar Park of all places. Even I don't go there any more. He'd have a beer, he just said "don't let me see the weed" because technically it was illegal then. If police come to a park and see a problem, current liquor laws give them good reason to "nip things in the bud" and that's what good community policing does. More later....

  6. I admit I do that with some intentionally and some unintentionally. Valid criticism. Yes. Doesn't make it right. You haved the right to challenge my pretentious face before I do it. Good point...but on Infidel's arguments I argue against them with classic conservative arguments. I find his positions inherently liberal and fascistic. I do not think he cares about cops or mutual respect, just his own personal ideology. I read Shady and Wes much differently. I see them as openly making partisan arguments and admitting that openly but Infidel's positions far more rigid. That is only my subjective take. I can not see any difference between Infidel Dog positions and Taxme positions. That is me. I do not claim to be superior just totally against Dog's agenda like MH. I like to call Dog's Russian anti American agitation a script designed to incite hatred against Americans. Ultimately to accept Dog's reasoning I opinecthat you end up in an anti democracy, anti individual head space justifying all or nothing might is right do it my way or you are the enemy thinking. Putin piss pus thinking. Thanks I pass. The very issues the Yanks have are what also makes them admirable. They get it out in the open. When Trump asked on June 1 to impose the Insurrection Act his AG, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Defence Secretary said no. He listened. That is the beauty of the checks and balances system. He could not pull a Putin. Nobody saw that. No one talks about that. They bloody well should. Yah the Yanks have issues. They will sort them out. Good soldiers stood up and refused to be used politically. That is the US Infidel doesn't get and I suspect loaths because he supports Iranian theocracy and Putin totalitarianism. The US military is every damn colour today. It's no Russian political tool of a dictator and it's no Chinese political tool crushing Hong Kong citizens. Up the Yanks in all their chaos. They are continuing the development of their expression of fred speech. If it goes too far they know what to do. Yah I support Mitt Romney and Colin Powell. What can I say. Edited for spelling on June10

  7. I didn't insult you personally, I talked about your behaviour. The 'I know you are but what am I' defense would work better if you had an example of me doing this. If you do, I will explain/retract the statement as necessary.

  8. It varies in the United States as well. I am amazed that the Black Lives Matter movement has so easily penetrated the Canadian psyche and consciousness to the point of protest and riots. Even the virtue signaling blackface PM couldn't resist the photo op. American narrative....American social media....American results.

  9. Then you need to direct your ire toward legislators. It’s not the police that continue to pass laws. It’s only their job to enforce them. Legislators are free to change or eliminate unnecessary laws.

  10. OK, but the cops were still placed in the middle of it for whatever reason. If somebody else dies at the hands of our despondent hero, the cops are blamed for that too. It's a thankless job. More female officers and less testosterone might help.

  11. That "pocket knife" was a serious threat to other citizens as well. Police are trained to attack the threat with escalating levels of force.

  12. We need to change ourselves first, to stop being manipulated from left and right. Every single group is trying to use different material in regards to this tragedy to get followers. The police unions in the USA are borderline criminal. If they were transparent and fair the cop should have been put in civilian life a long time ago. Majority of cops are great and fair, you have bad apples in every profession however because the unions were not doing their jobs look what happened from incompetence and corruption. Here is a radical idea in a joking way, abolish every union and let people make it by productivity. Now, on the other side, the mob, I will guarantee you if you go in there and ask randomly some people at the protest they don't even know George's last name. All they know is that is racism and white people did it. I live downtown Toronto, I went to get a coffee this afternoon, it is very sad to see small business boarded up. A few agitators across the street and I have seen 1 guy injecting heroin right in the middle of the street. People like you or social workers will go crying in their pillow if you had to work as a cop for one night. Reform yes, absolutely but don't pretend like from tomorrow there will be no crime and the police will be fairies.

  13. The hotspots tend to be in higher density, poorer communities, which also tend to have more racialized people, which is one of the reasons we’re seeing the rebellion against law enforcement coming from such communities. The hardest done by are the hardest hit by the virus, and powerful images of misuse of authority are triggering reactions. I will address this in a new thread.

  14. What is the goal of the people(large numbers of them)doing the rioting and the looting? What they all have in common is that they would all identify as progressives. They have no intention of waiting until all the facts come out on this case. It's difficult to disagree with anyone on the left because of the inevitable cries of racism.

  15. I am always with Besty on this. Life is how you choose to define. When she says God it means humility...feeling connected to a search fo purpose that flows from a journey that set out from something far higher than us but gave us opportunity to detach from it to find that purpose and share the experiences learned in finding that purpose. In a nutshell I get glimpses of that purpose everytime I witness someone do good and how intricate and beautiful nature is. Simple but yet profound stuff. Ah that is as good as I can answer because in this material world you get easily suckered into measuring value or defining oneself by what they own or control which to me is a distraction.

  16. I like the celebs who complain about Trump's wall idea, meanwhile they live in gated communities with big walls/fences/gates around their homes to keep unwanted people out.

  17. "Capitalism is the enemy" "Free ____________ [everything]" "Equality of outcome" "People with money are guilty" You don't need a book to become a Marxist. You can watch CNN or CBC. Run some google searches. Thank your trusted news source for this low herd mentality. Stupidity. Gullibility. Leftism. Racism. I'll stop here. I see people lying here all the time, and I call them out on it. I call the MSM out on actual, material lies all the time. No one gives a rip. That's why they'll never change. They're stuck in a hole that they're helping to dig.

  18. It seems people are treating the coronavirus as something which has passed away or at least not something too serious to stop people from going to virtue signalling protests. Hopefully such complacency won't bite them in the ass. If this American incident had happened in March then people wouldn't have dared to gather in large groups of protests. Back in March people were genuinely frightened of the virus.

  19. Don't worry....the Americans will pick somebody to join Biden against Trump/Pence, and either way the election goes there will still be a U.S. president for some Canadians to bitch about, a true sign of happiness.

  20. You can't just go out and test the public at large. People have to come to an assessment centre. And because of the invasive nature of the test, you'd really only volunteer if you suspected you may have it. But DoFo has said that anyone can get a test if they want. And testing has ramped up recently. As for contact tracing. It's tough, I think it can only really be done successfully very early in the outbreak process. My issues with how DoFo has handled this is the massive grey area we have. Public gatherings are still limited to 5 people. That makes no sense when you're allowing all private retail to open, golf courses to open, parks to open. It creates this situation where people who are dogmatic narcs about social distancing can still justify their strict protocol while the rest of people can proceed where they feel comfortable. I'm not going to avoid seeing the friends and family I've been staying away from for 2+ months but go out and play golf.
