  1. Old people are well aware of how vulnerable they are, and that death is imminent. These are the people who need to be most protected in an outbreak. On the other hand if protection brings its own issues, the decision what to do isn't so black-and-white. It is not always wise to try and save life at all costs, when you understand certain realities. Mental health problems due to virus fear is an issue just beginning to come to our attention. Little old ladies who are scared are hiding at home, don't go out for many weeks hardly at all, stop doing the things they used to do that kept them busy and kept them going. A certain number of them will die earlier. And so it comes down to quality of life issues. Would you rather isolate for months, upheave everything, enduring loneliness, depression and the impact this has on you, or go to the places you always go, take your chances but use "social distancing" as always, same techniques for flu season every year. Just need to do them consistently and well, but not useless things. Stores marketing themselves as "clean" now makes virus its own industry. Cheers

  2. Interesting thoughts from Karl Deninger over at the Market Ticker (here), from the get-go we seem incapable of understanding who are the vectors and drop a heavy lead blanket over the non-vectors:

  4. I have no difficulty with any of this. But then I'm semi-old. I grew up in a pre-Liberal Canada, before Trudeau senior opened the floodgates to immigrants and then set about deliberately destroying our traditions and institutions because they were too closely related to Britain and he wanted to assuage Quebec. The 'multiculturalism' bullshit helped with that because it was only ever applied in English Canada, never in Quebec. We were told that we couldn't do this or say that and that this and that had to be changed so as to not offend newcomers. And the more newcomers we had which had no part of our traditions and values the more this argument was used. Now we have Trudeau the shallow proclaiming that Canada is a 'post-nation state', ie, not even a nation, and has no core identity, and saying it PROUDLY, as if this is a good thing! Mind you, he'd cut his own tongue out before saying anything like that about Quebec.

  5. A global pandemic has never been a secret. It's a concern that humankind has been dealing with for thousands of years. Just because groups were having meetings about it, the pentagon has been talking about it, it doesn't mean that they're plotting something malicious. What are your thoughts on the flat earth conspiracy theories?

  7. No, it's not "particles" It's droplets, and only the ones are your face are going to infect you Even turning away from someone as they cough or sneeze protects you

  9. I'm an infection control officer. Part janitor and part security. I wipe the door handle 1000 times each day, and am trained to take you down in a full nelson if you don't use the hand sanitizer.

  10. Here's a tidbit, as looking forward to the future we are likely going to become obsessed with "particles". You are breathing in particles all the time. You are constantly being exposed to viruses every day, and they enter your body every day. You can't completely get rid of them, but a certain amount of virus is tolerable.

  11. I don't mean the hospital. I'm quite certain I would be compensated on one way or another later on as, from the view point of politics, it is always someone's fault if the hospitals are too crowded or there's a shortage of staff etc. They'll spend ages speculating whose fault this and this was and who's the most innocent and who's the most guilty. Who's minimizing it and how? Not much of an argument against the existence of God, but thank you for the input. I never claimed otherwise — nor does it contradict the existence of God..

  12. Apparently we never had any real meaningful news ever! The virus just made this painfully obvious. We were being fed bullshit, while the rich were using us as a tool to rape the environment. Think about the deep discussions we had about Carbon Tax. Carbon Tax did fuck all. The virus helped reduce our carbon emissions 10-20 fold in a month! But I am sure I am still paying carbon tax to our corrupt useless government. But now they will reap the rewards of their own schemes. Now that they have to depend on other nations for medical supplies. Of course the other nations will first take care of their own citizens before ever considering shipping anything to Canada. There goes the global market economy concept and the outsourcing of jobs strategy.

  14. Who are the experts? The WHO? The ones who told the world to leave flights open when people from Wuhan were fleeing? The last thing I would do is trust Trudeau, or the WHO.

  16. Which is what makes it worse. Yes misinformation has played a role throughout history since the dawn of man. But today it is so huge. So fast. The misinformation goes around the world in seconds and reaches way more people. The whole lot of you are now under its spell. That's why you're mesmerized chicken shit go wash your hands, it's been more than 5 minutes. And remember to wipe everything down again and again, and... again

  17. But before doing that do you speak french fluently? No broken french will get you the job either. If not, forget about that idea right now. Lol. Trudeau has failed Canada and Canadians with everything ever since he became the dyktator of Canada. When was it that he did anything good for Canada or Canadians? I will give you a month to answer.

  18. "Elect a clown, expect a circus . . . " The clown has pissed away a mountain of money . . . and we have nothing to show for it. Crisis looms on the horizon, we have little in resources to deal with it. Up the carbon tax on the appropriate date of April 1st . . . . That smug prick is a traitor . . . . an enemy of Canada.

  19. Progressives believe they can run an economy on other people's money...until that runs out. Then the true authoritarian nature comes out in them. Wouldn't change anything....we already have plenty of lobbying video to see.

  20. Depicting a virus as coming from China and taking measures withstanding immigration for a certain amount of time from the origin of the virus is legitimate. And beings singing Imagine by John Lennon and giving hugs to everybody don't make the world a better place. Healthcare workers do, alongside the scientists.

  22. Contact drills ; if you do get sprayed, don't panic The droplets are on your face, but it's not being absorbed through your skin, so nothing has happened yet Don't touch you face, don't rub it, go home, take a shower, spray your face off with the shower head, then follow up with soap

  23. As the strong, our role is to help the weak Also to help those on the front lines, they have shortages, I gave my N95 masks to a cop buddy of mine, because I don't need them. He was RCR : Pro Patria

  24. They work if everyone is wearing them, at the strategic level, the mask prevents you from infecting others so it needs to be collective response People are not trained professionals, they constantly fiddle with the mask, adjusting it all the time In terms of defensive, all you need is a spray guard for people coughing/sneezing on you, So I just use a neck gaiter and put it up when people are close, take it down when they are not, wear sunglasses as a visor When people are shedding, they are dropping it around themselves like snow, when they cough/sneeze, they launch it further out It's not like a powder or a gas though, the droplets are heavy, so they fall back down like rain. The actual military alert for this is not GAS-GAS-GAS but rather SPRAY-SPRAY-SPRAY Think of it like a spray bottle, they are not releasing aerosol, they are squirting liquid droplets at you

  25. Just to review; masks prevent the spread but they don't protect you from infection, in fact they make you touch your face more, which makes infection more likely You don't need N95 because the virus is a spray not a gas, so you can use just a regular bandana style mask and sunglasses as a spray guard The virus is not airborne, it's a spray and that spray is around people, it doesn't float around, it drops straight down around them Surgical gloves are single use, don't wear them around, handwash, gloves on, do the task, gloves off, handwash again Lysol wipes do work, it kills H1N1 so it will kill this bug, but use sparingly., expend one downrange at a time to wipe things down if you need to, otherwise just handwash Handwashing is life, 90% of the battle is just keep handwashing all the time In terms of surfaces, it doesn't stick to soft surfaces, the surfaces to wipe down are metal and glass and plastic, smooth and hard is what gives it a launch pad

  26. I'm not sure I totally agree with the lawsuits being "frivolous." To an extent - yes. I mean, it's a friggin' cake, after all. On the other hand, it is "tyranny" for Christians to discriminate and refuse service to others based on their own harsh, rigid interpretations of the Bible. I mean, it's a friggin' cake, after all. Baking the cake would be an opportunity to show Christ-like love, create relationships and support people without judgement no matter what their choices are. I believe that was Jesus' point when he came to earth. The only upside to these lawsuits that I see - it turns a lot of people off religion. I'll take a lesbian or gay couple over a self-righteous, judgemental, critical, hate-spewing religious nutter any day.
