I personally think the idea of using military as police is not efficient anyways. I was forced to do it indirectly in Israel and I can tell you from my perspective no soldier wants to police civilians. They want nothing to do with it. I know soldiers spit on the face equally by both sides in the area they had to police. People do not understand soldiers are trained to fight soldiers and having to go after terrorists dressed as civilians or even real citizens protesting is not something anyone wants to do as a soldier although I defer to soldiers on it. I did volunteer medic stuff so I never carried a gun and only dug toilets or pulled nails out of barefeet or cleaned rat bites and stupid shit like that but I know the soldiers I knew hated it. They signed up to deal with other soldiers not arresting screaming pregnant women smuggling guns. But such is life. In this case, the police are in a no win situation. The politicians are hiding and without going into a long explanation no one wants to hear the laws are completely unclear as to a conflict between certain aboriginal rights to land and pipelines and so even tough what native peoples are doing blocking the trains is criminal, it is related to unclear laws and therefore political considerations that remain unresolved so Trudeau hides from them as he has since he got re-elected. You notice since re-election he no longer grabs the camera and has delegated anything controversial to his ministers especially that little munchkin lady and Deputy PM now. Garneau the Transport Minister has no directives you can tell in his vague answers. The bottom line is Indigenous Affairs not Garneau has to deal with this and they are afraid because the indigenous nations are split on this issue with some in favour and some against and then we have American natives who have come up to Canada and they believe under the Jay's Treaty anywhere in North America is their land and they have the right to protest. It will have to be settled as millions of dollars in unrelated commerce are being impacted negatively by the rail block. I think politically arresting people might inflame a situation and make martyrs and make it worse so they are hoping for cooler heads and diplomacy at this point but it does not seem anyone with any true authority for the feds is doing anything. Calling it a provincial police matter is a bloody cop out if you excuse the expression and asking the military to force there way into the situation is not going to work. Asking soldiers to engage in action againstthe people they take an oath to protect is not what they asked for. I defer to Dougie and Army on it. I do not mean to talk for them.2 points

I did just that LOL, Wet’suwet’en Nation member Shirley Wilson supports #CoastalGasLink If you cut through the doublespeak and media obfuscation, all the protests and blockades are based on the opposition of five people - 5, Five unelected Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs Vs the rights of 37 million Cdns. The ongoing protests in BC, Ontario and elsewhere show the depths of ignorance, stupidity and vapid self-indulgence we've come to expect from much of the activist and progressive populations, along with the sheer bloody cowardice of our governments. Recall, the pipeline being protested was signed off on by the elected chiefs and band councils of the tribes in the area. The 'hereditary' chiefs tried to get elected in opposition to the pipeline, and failed. From which we can determine the natives in the area didn't care what they had to say and wanted the pipeline and the money and jobs that would bring. No matter. A chance to protest pipelines?! Progressives aren't gonna miss that if they have the slightest excuse! Watch them standing their, chins elevated, filled with the sense of righteous self-granted nobility and arrogance you only see from those with an enormous regard for themselves. They're 'standing with the natives'! Well, not the actual natives, just the 'hereditary chiefs', who should be in charge, you know! This democracy stuff was imposed by colonialism (yes, they say this. The bunch sitting on the rail tracks are much the same. Some of them are Mohawks, Many aren't. The Mohawk chief says he didn't authorize any protest and neither did the band council. No matter. The OPP is standing around shaking in terror at the thought of having to say "Boo' to a native. Meanwhile in Vancouver, the police arrested angry people trying to pull down the barricades natives and their far left allies erected in the middle of the road. Arrest the protestors? Oh no! The horror! The horror! Run away! Run away! (that seems to be the motto of both Canada's governments and its police departments whenever native protesters show up). I'm reminded of a movie called Soylent Green, a cult hit. In one of the scenes, these huge garbage trucks with their scoopers on the ground in front of them move into protesting crowds, scoop them up and dump them into the back of their trucks, to be carted out and processed as food. Excellent idea! I'm sure they'd all be delighted at being recycled into dog food. They're all environmentalists, after all. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/stephen-ledrew-canada-should-enforce-the-law-with-wetsuweten-anti-pipeline-protests?video_autoplay=true1 point

Jonathan Kay lays out just how we've come to this, with years of paternalistic, patronizing government congratulating themselves on their sensitivity, and paying lip service to ridiculous native claims about being 'nations', while tolerating all the crap from activists about what a horrible country Canada is and how we've committed 'genocide' on natives (whose population continues to increase somehow). Now even trying to disagree or push back against claims made by natives is seen as sacrilege by liberals, which leaves them helpless at doing anything to control the situation which currently exists. How can you show leadership while constantly genuflecting? If you find yourself astounded by the current situation in Canada, whereby protesters have been allowed to shut down a rail network that remains a backbone of passenger travel and industrial transport (and whose coast-to-coast completion in 1885 became a symbol of national unity), it’s useful to revisit the accumulation of symbolic gestures that have steadily destroyed the moral authority of our governments to push back at any assertion of Indigenous rights and grievances. For years, our leaders offered reflexive acquiescence to increasingly expansive claims that Canada remains a white supremacist dystopia, culminating in last year’s campaign to convince us not only that modern Canada is a “genocide” state, but that even the act of expressing disagreement with this description makes you a sort of metaphorical train conductor on the rails to Canadian Dachau. Having publicly tattooed their guilty settler souls with every imaginable hashtag, our leaders now apparently find themselves stopped from restoring the rule of law. The push to recognize Indigenous sovereignty over ancestral lands stretches back generations, an effort rooted in very real constitutional and treaty rights. But what I am describing here is not this formally bounded legal campaign, but rather the more general insistence that the entire country remains stained by original sin, and so must be purified by an open-ended, quasi-spiritual process of “decolonization.” This project began in earnest in 2017 as a counter-reaction to the perceived jingoism of the Canada 150 celebrations. Within the rarified corners of the literary and arts milieus (in which I found myself embedded at the time), decolonization quickly became a sort of state religion, complete with decolonization-themed sensitivity training and confession rituals. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jonathan-kay-railroading-of-elected-bands-betrays-progressive-hypocrisy1 point

A lot of the protestors don't give a damn about natives. They're the usual climate change doomsayers demanding an end to the fossil fuel industry, mostly made up of urban, upper and upper middle class females and various brainless progressive activist groups. Protesters standing in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs are only inflaming an already intense situation, and have disregarded the years of consultations conducted with First Nations along the pipeline route, says Ellis Ross, who served for 14 years on one of the 20 elected band councils that signed an agreement with Coastal GasLink. “There’s a lot of people that aren’t from these communities, that aren’t Aboriginal, that are saying hereditary leadership has full authority, and they’re not doing it based on any facts. It would be like me saying that the elected leadership of B.C. and Canada has no authority, and it’s the Queen who has all authority,” said Ross, now the Liberal MLA for Skeena, B.C. “That would be a very destabilizing remark to make. It’s a very irresponsible remark to make.” https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/who-are-the-protesters-theres-a-lot-of-people-that-arent-from-these-communities-that-arent-aboriginal1 point

Its true while the politicians dither it costs business money I get that however with due respect to that impatience because it is costing huge amounts of business loss, the laws in Canada on the issue of land access with the railways is not by any means clear. The treaty wordings and confused interpretations in court are e a legal landmine of unresolved legal issues as to land access and rights and the Charter's wording obliges us to inherit and honour native treaties and laws and incorporate them so its not by any means an easy issue. So while the methods may be wrong to defend these rights, the arguments behind them are not necessarily wrong and natives could if they wanted go to court and get all kinds of injunctions tying this up in court for years causing far more harm than what is going on now for business which explains the reluctance of politicians to force the issue more accurately then turning this into a simplistic race issue suggesting minorities can break the law and whites can not.1 point

...and much easier to organize with smartphones and social media. No doubt...we get Canadians down here as well for all kinds of protests....lefties love this stuff no matter where it is. It seems that government and media are more afraid of the worse case optics (e.g. Oka) than the actual issues at hand. Who needs propane in February ?1 point

I've been toe to toe with them, and they ain't no supermen, but they won't back down, you can't intimidate them, they're not afraid of the army, they will defy you to kill them, or back off, and the government backs off, rather than shoot them down in front of the international media camped out waiting to film it.1 point

Yes, particularly in British Columbia. We had Mohawk warriors in the Corps (USMC)...they were fierce and ready to make somebody else die for their country. Very good with knives !1 point

I found this hard to believe, until I looked at a railway map for Canada. This vulnerability could be exploited by any group, but the government would move against non-natives far more readily.1 point

Perhaps it's a strong and necessary message to governments and business and industry. It's better to negotiate. The duty of the Crown to consult ... still needs to be done. I'm sure the Queen is aware by now that her Honour was not upheld. The law is the law. I'll be expecting to see improvements there.1 point

OK, but the Mohawks or any other Native population cannot be expected to be any more unified than any other group or leadership in Canada. First Nations are not a monolithic block.1 point

Belgium was insignificant to the outcome of the war, the Germans already overran most of it, the Belgian King was desperate for some part of Belgium to be saved, so he went to George V to lobby him and then George V lobbied the government, so the British pointlessly slaughtered their troops to include the Canadians, to keep Flanders, a tiny corner of Belgium, from being officially overrun with the rest of the tiny slave state mass liquidating people in the so called Rubber Terror in the Congo. You know how they chop people's arms off in Rwanda? Long Sleeve or Short Sleeve? The Rwandans didn't invent that, the Belgians did, for slaves who tried to escape. That's why the Hutu's did it to the Tutsi's, it was payback, because 'Tutsi' is really just a euphemism for those who collaborated with the Belgians. Tutsi is not actually a tribe, it's just the more white looking blacks who the Belgians gave preferential treatment to as House Slaves. The Tutsis in the Belgian Congo were the black overseers of the Hutu slaves, much like the black overseers in Dixieland. As for the military kit, it doesn't help against the Indians, because again, you can't use military force against them, because they don't amount to a military threat in a legal sense, so all of the military firepower and technology is neutralized, since it all ends up being overkill which you can't employ against Canadians in Canada. All the military could legally do, is Aid to the Civil Power, and that is just protecting the police while they do police work, the military is restricted as to employing the full spectrum of capabilities at its disposal, most of which would be kept in the rear, while the troops basically pulled guard duty. To wit, you can't bomb them with the CF-18's, you can't launch a Harpoon missile at them, you can't run them over with the Main Battle Tanks, only the infantry can be used, and only in support of the cops. Canada simply doesn't have anywhere near enough infantry and cops to secure the Windsor to Quebec Corridor, period end of story. The Indians don't have to snipe at anybody, all they have to do is put things on the railway tracks at random places, and that grinds things to a halt.1 point

Indeed, 60,000 Canadians killed to defend Belgium : a slave empire which liquidated 10 million Africans in the Congo. The King of Belgium went straight to George V and requested it be done, and Ottawa served up its boys as lambs to the slaughter in defense of slavery. The great fear of the British was that Canada would refuse, that Canada would withdraw its troops in the face of the unprecedented attrition But they need not have feared, for Canada is the ultimate lick spittle crony, culture is destiny.1 point

It's a tough decision to get a pregnancy terminated due to a baby's health issues, but it's more than just an 18 year ordeal and not every family has the time or money to provide a consistent, high level of care. When babies are born in really rough shape they'll need 100% care right through their adult life, and there are lots of adults out there who can't even provide a decent life for healthy kids, let alone kids which have extreme needs. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I can handle tough obstacles as well as almost anyone, but I could never do the day to day things that a nurse, doctor or vet does. My mother-in-law is a huge wimp who gets in a flap when things go even a bit squirrelly, but she used to volunteer in the hospital and sit with people in palliative care who had no one to visit with them and just offer comfort and support. I could never do that either. Some people couldn't provide care for a severely handicapped child who will never crawl or walk or talk. I'm in awe of the people who can, but I won't lie - I couldn't do it.1 point

Also bear in mind that the CAF is bound at all times by international law and the laws of armed conflict The central pillars of which are military necessity, proportionality and collateral mitigation. This means that the military can only use military force against a military threat, so unless your protestors are heavily armed, there would be no mandate to use military force against them, so again, it isn't actually an escalation above police force to deploy the military in Aid to the Civil Power.1 point

With the repeal of ye olde British War Measures Act ( dating from the First World War, enacted on 22 August 1914 ) there is in fact no more provision for martial law under Canadian Law The War Measures Act was replaced by the Emergency Measures Act, which is not martial, the military simply plays a supporting role, the CAF never takes charge under the EMA1 point
-
The War Measures Act was repealed, it's no longer on the books. Martial law doesn't actually empower the military to do more than the police anyways, the military is still bound to follow the same laws and procedures the police are already using1 point

Mobocracy is not democracy, upholding the rule of law that Trudeau likes to bang on about is in the best interests of Canadians. bit that apparently doesn't apply to some where race based preferential treatment is the order of the day. There were consultations, 20 elected Chiefs agree with it, they want jobs and prosperity for their people , those protesting are only one band the Unist'ot'en who I suppose, don't want prosperity and jobs. the real views of the nation are not often reported by the MSM https://www.spencerfernando.com/2020/02/10/watch-wetsuweten-nation-member-supports-coastal-gaslink-pipeline-says-many-protesters-are-from-outside-community-from-united-states/?fbclid=IwAR29Zq9fbRvXqpRtM4bAYdecSL6e3ro3QvnzVX4SIcgu4toQ5lmSUUCY0-4https://www.spencerfernando.com/2020/02/10/watch-wetsuweten-nation-member-supports-coastal-gaslink-pipeline-says-many-protesters-are-from-outside-community-from-united-states/?fbclid=IwAR29Zq9fbRvXqpRtM4bAYdecSL6e3ro3QvnzVX4SIcgu4toQ5lmSUUCY0-41 point

It has nothing to do with democracy. If somebody is breaking the law, the law has to be enforced. Like I've already stated, I'm sure if protesters were shutting down abortion clinics, you'd have a much different attitude.1 point

While I generally understand and respect First nations, I would like to ask this tiny minority where are their protests in support of the Kootenai first nation who have never ceeded their traditional homeland in South-Western Alberta they were forcibly removed from by the Blackfeet? What about the Sinixt nation who were enslaved and forced from their traditional lands in the northern west Kootenay by the Shushwap, or the genocide of the first nation in the eastern arctic at the hands of the Inuit? Slavery, colonialism, and genocide are not activities confined to Europeans.1 point

The first statement is another classic example of your reference to ALL Jews in a negative manner based on an unsubstantiated subjective assumption based on hating Jews. Next your second paragraph has been answered many times. Pretending it hasn't is stupid. Each time I have answered your question is not a question, its a statement that you believe Hitler and others have good reason to hate Jews. To ask me what others think shows just how ridiculous you are. How would I know what others think. I could speculate and do speculate that anyone who thinks and states things about Jews as you do is a hateful bigot, but I do not know. I can't read the minds of such people you invent. You really need to think before you respond just once. Next who ist"that ilk". Go on explain. As for a chance to make you look bad, I do not ask for any, you just can; help though but make them possible.0 points
