You have to understand where Betsy is coming from. As long as Trump says he's going to ban abortion he can sacrifice virgins in the street and worship Satan. It doesn't matter. Just say he's against abortion and he's her new God.3 points

I saw the press conference. I don't see any so-called "debacle" over what was said. Just because some people think it is, doesn't make it so.2 points

So if we do any business with the Saudis we have to fling open Canada's doors to everything Saudi? Let their extremist brand of Islam have full reign in Canada? No thanks. Just because I shop at Sobey's for groceries, doesn't mean all their employees are entitled to enter my home anytime they feel like it and do anything they want.2 points

It's not really an effective debating strategy to hold that because you think others are exaggerating their case you too can do so. According to polling, two-thirds of Ontarians (and probably an equal proportion of Canadians in general) agree with Ford's position on this issue. Obviously, a great many of these people are not Conservative partisans. And Canadians have never been afforded much say about immigration and refugee policy as the political compact (sometimes referred to as a "consensus") in Ottawa has largely precluded public debate. But when a specific policy is so clearly wrongheaded as is the current approach to the migrant problem, is it really wise to denigrate those who oppose your position? What you really appear to be saying is that Canadians can go f*** themselves, right? This appears to have been the consensus position among our federal politicians on immigration for quite some time. But once the pandora's box that is immigration and refugee policy is opened, can it be shut? Progressives have walked right into this with their eyes closed.2 points

The first wave of thousands of illegal crossers were from Haiti - because Trump announced that Haiti would be considered safe again after the 2011 earthquake and the TEMPORARY sanctuary program would soon be ending in 6 months or so. That would give them time to prepare to return home. It's seldom reported that Canada also had a temporary sanctuary program for Haitians which was terminated in August, 2016 under.....wait for it.....Justin Trudeau!!!! But thanks to Trudeau's stupid, virtue signalling tweet, Haitians all headed to the border - crossing illegally to avoid being sent back. You're on a slippery slope on this. Is it not the right of any Canadian to question or criticize any government policy? You seem to believe that unquestioning fealty to the sitting Liberal government is the only acceptable position. Further, most of those crossing illegally (yes, it's illegal to cross anywhere but at an authorized entry point, as the signs along the border point out) from the U.S. into Canada are simply migrants. They can't file refugee claims here until they're on Canadian soil at which point they become refugee claimants rather than refugees. The most recent flows seem to be dominated by migrants from countries that are not today war torn. Finally, as some lawyers have noted, Canada doesn't have a legal obligation to guarantee those crossing from the U.S. asylum as applicable international law requires such migrants to claim refugee status in the first safe country they reach (see article at link below). The fact that the U.S. system is more stringent than ours doesn't render it illegitimate. Our laws and processes are at present more permissive and lenient than international law requires. Maybe the current situation should be taken as a lesson on why we must change our system. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/trudeau-is-exaggerating-what-international-refugee-law-compels-canada-to-do2 points

The Trudeau government calling legitimate criticism of their failed border policy UnCanadian is nothing but a slap in the face to every Canadian who wants to see their government do a better job addressing illegal border crossing2 points

Canadian fetish or not, it is inconsistent with demands and dependence on America to defend the interests of NATO deadbeats. Anti-Americanism is also rampant in Europe, and Trump is right to confront that head on, where it hurts...trade and defence.1 point

Lot's of people enjoy that.....men and women....so what's the big deal ? Are you a prude ?1 point

Agreed...and this is the funniest part. The deadbeats are whining because the American president is no longer willing to cover their NATO asses just because it always has before. Suddenly, U.S. intel agencies are infallible and "WMDs in Iraq" are long forgotten.1 point

How am I forcing her to not exercise her choice? By expressing my opinion that forced hijab is more common than we like to admit and that I agree with all the studies that show how oppressive it is to women and to society?1 point

Actually, our national sport is politics. Anti- Americanism is more of a disturbing fetish that we should have out grown 150 years ago.1 point

Fox News has taken Trump to task before, notably during the early election media battles and attacks (e.g. Megan Kelly). I actually find it laughable that Fox News would now be held up as the standard by critics in Canada.1 point

Don't know about anyone here, but I am so sick of the constant reporting and commenting on Trump. Eventually Trump will no longer be POTUS. . In the meantime some important issues are neglected.1 point

If someone wants to kill himself - why not just go ahead and do it? People do it all the time. Why force someone to assist?? Pointing them to someone, IS, assisting! That would be like showing where the gun is located, to someone who wants to shoot himself! There. It's right in that cupboard, behind the sugar. Somebody wanna hang himself - he should do it all by himself! Somebody wants someone willing to assist, should do the homework himself. "I think," is not good enough. Making up laws willy-nilly, without serious study over its implications, will result in confusions and a tangled system. We shouldn't be playing with laws just to appease special interest groups.1 point

The Trudeau regime is not doing it's job, many of the gov't sponsored refugees are not doing so well, but large families are doing very well with the very generous child benefit. Most are still struggling not finding work or integrating but some are still managing to sponsor their relatives. The gov't sponsored these people they should be doing a follow up and reporting back - so much for the openness and transparency we were promises. Sunny ways https://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/douglas-todd-trudeau-government-goes-silent-on-syrian-refugees Once in power, Trudeau’s Liberals switched the name of the Immigration Department to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, to highlight their concern for those forced to leave chaotic home countries, especially Syria. Given the grand gestures, you would be forgiven for believing the federal Liberals and the department responsible for refugees would be tracking the fate of the tens of the thousands of struggling Syrians that Canada has recently taken in. But, after more than two weeks of inquiries by Postmedia, a media relations officer acknowledged the department has not produced any report in almost two years on the about 50,000 Syrian refugees now in Canada.1 point

She'd be better off calling him out as a liar, pointing out that we have no international obligations - which he knows full well, and that these refugees, if accepted, will most certainly be jumping the queue on those people who try to go through the legitimate immigration queue.1 point

God aint real. So, according to you, something a person is born with (their sex) somehow justifies having a society where the head of state is determined by birthright instead of by merit... Birthright justifies more birthright. Monarchist insanity gets crazier and crazier.1 point

What I care about is that we insist on having the opportunity to send our corporations around the world in search of greener pastures while blocking human beings from doing the same. We're people too after all. There's nothing more typical than a right-wing conservative who puts wealth ahead of people. The consequences and angst this is now producing is what we get and deserve for building a one world economy without a one world government to check and balance that economy's effects. I hope you choke on it.0 points

There's nothing more typically Canadian these days than right-wing conservatives conflating clearly legitimate refugees from a war torn country with refugees whose illegitimacy is still in question. You avoid recognizing a refugees rights like you do housework.0 points
