TEHRAN — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran would free the 15 detained British sailors and marines Wednesday as a “gift” to the British people.

He said the captives, who were seized while on patrol in the northern Persian Gulf on March 23, would be taken to Tehran airport at the end of the news conference that he was addressing.

Yes...and now as a sign of friendship the Brits should destroy the boats that the Iranians stole.

This is indeed good news.

What's that matter Dog? Sorry that the UK can't go and blow up some innocent Iranians? You must be sad about that. Your true colours are certainly showing on this board - far clearer than back at the other forum (from which you were banned).

What I find rather interesting is the treatment of the British soldiers - no matter how one cuts it they were treated far better than anyone in US/UK custody!

Good on Ahmedinejad.

Good on Ahmedinejad.

Show me your credentials regarding your knowledge of the handling of troops in the custody of the US and the UK. Are you privy to inside information, do you work for either government on a level that allows you to see such treatment? Or are you just reiterating what you see in the news?

Please tell me why you want to see someone like Ahmadinejad succeed. Iran is a backwards country. They execute people for being gay, rights of women are practically non-existent, etc. A young girl was just spared from being killed because she defended herself from being raped, not because someone was having a good day, because there was a lot of international pressure. How nice, a victim of rape and she is being executed. Why, because they were men she killed. I would love to see you move to Iran for a year and try and live it out. We would probably see you in six months.

Where did I say that I want to see Ahmedinejad 'succeed'? How is Iran a backwards country? The Persian culture is far older than the so called west. Do they have some problems right now? Sure they do - but part in parcel these problems are due to Western meddling beginning with the overthrow of Mossadeq back in 53. Also, have you conveniently forgotten the tyrannical rule of the Shahs? (Puppets!)

It is well known in ALL circles that the US tortures her prisoners. Even Gonzales thinks it's acceptable behaviour to torture children - this is simply a fact.

Or you do believe that two wrongs make a right?

Or do you believe that the US can do no wrong? Guess what - women get beaten murdered raped and savaged there too!

Personally, I'd like to see Iran deal with her own problems - they really are none of our business. The sabre rattling and threats of nuclear attack won't work. Or would you like to see another Iraq? Or an irradiated Persia?

*sigh*

Some folk will never learn.

Child Protection Services in Florida lost 3000 kids. Some turned up dead, others in foreign brothels. The juvenile detention facilities are being used as brothels. Alex Jones said this and he wouldn't get away with saying this if it wasn't true.

The 3000 kids missing in Florida was in a Florida newspaper according to Jones. It didn't get picked up by mainstream media.

Read this Link and its linked copies of letters sent around the legal community. Apparently if the kids are not injured this is OK.

Some people will never learn.

Ahmedinejad is an NWO puppet just like Bush. There was an article posted on Rense showing a pic of Ahmedinejad giving the NWO devil worship hand sign (what we know as the "bullshit" sign) beside one of Bush.

B_Cat, I bet you have seen this and have the link. If so can you link it here ?

This war will be fought against the people of the English empire and the people of Iran and the people of Israel.

Fact = cite. If so well known then you will have no problem showing us the reams of sites that back you up.

Or you do believe that two wrongs make a right?

Well two negatives do equal a positive.

Or do you believe that the US can do no wrong?

Do you believe they do NOTHING right? It seems so.

Some folk will never learn.

And some....never did learn.

Depends how you view Iranian illusionary tactics.

The timing says it all.

Easter gift? I don't think so.

This is simply making a mockery, out of the perception of good will.

All Iranian smoke and mirrors, but is a smart move.

In a short time the Iranians will insure, it will be pay back time.

It is reported that Syria may have had a hand in getting the Brits released.

Evidence of Nancy Pelosi's influence?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17944210/

Syria's information minister and foreign minister said Damascus had played a key role in resolving the standoff.

Information Minister Mohsen Bilal said that "Syrian efforts and the Iranian willingness culminated with the release of the British sailors." Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem told reporters that "Syria exercised a sort of quiet diplomacy to solve this problem and encourage dialogue between the two parties."

The two officials did not provide details of the Syrian mediation.

A British Airways flight carrying the British sailors and marines who were held in Iran has taken off from a Tehran airport heading to London.

The 15, whose release from nearly two weeks in Iranian captivity was announced Wednesday by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, arrived in a convoy of sedans that drove directly to the presidential VIP section of the airport. The convoy was escorted by several cars belonging to the elite Revolutionary Guards.

How is this at all relevant? Persian culture is older than western culture? So is the stone age. What's the point? Women get beaten and raped in the US, so how is it different? Well, it's different because in the US they don't stone women for being raped. Maybe just a minor difference, but it's there. Where would you prefer to get raped? It never ceases to amaze me, the lengths to which anti-Americanism can twist logic and attack reason.

Pelosi should be proud of herself. Diplomacy DOES work. Bush never negotiates, Blair does not negotiate. Maybe Bush and Blair could learn a few things from Pelosi. And to have Syria help out in the negotiations is odd, but encouraging.

By that note, DO YOU??? Well, when they were shown on TV, they seemed in good health, not bound tied and gagged. Althought that can happen off camera. Now let's take a look at Gitmo there. Hmmmm.

Crisis everted. And to think there are some knee jerk reactionists here that wanted to start lobbing nukes at them. Indeed that would have solved this crisiis.

First, it's pure speculation that Pelosi had anything at all to do with the release. Second, if she did, it's a national outrage having opposition politicians cynically manipulated by the enemy. Third, negotiation has a long history in cases of hostagetaking. In fact, it makes it all worthwhile to take hostages.

As I believe it was speculation that those British soldiers were in Iraqi waters. Even if there is a shred of evidence that Pelosi had helped in the negotiations, it is still a shred more that what Bush and Blair had to offer.

Yeah yeah, those dumb lefties always getting in trouble like that.

Minoan (the so-called West) and Persian cultures are about the same age give or take. Sumer goes much further back. But Islam trumped all that and is much, much younger.

Neither you nor I have the slightest idea of what went on behind the scenes to secure the release. If it was something Bush and Blair did, fine. If it was something Pelosi did, shame on her, since she allowed herself to be used as stupidly as Jane Fonda a few decades back.

Iran managed to win the propaganda war on the home front, they have deflected from domestic problems and united the people against a common enemy. They also proved that their enemy is weak, that they can continue to push the envelope and get away with pretty much anything.

One thing I'm interested in sourcing is what U.N. mandated mission the Brits were on as reported in just about every article I read. I've tried searching but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

The UNSC Resolution of record would be #1723 of November 2006, which re-authorized multinational forces and security provisions for Iraq until terminated by request:
