51st or no deal. Until Canucks admit to being closet Americans, we shall have 25% tariff on make believe “Canadian” goods.

America's in decline. Why would we join somebody who's probably not even going to be irrelevant country in the next 40 years?

Is that why all the foreign direct investment is going to America?

For now and until the end of history, Canada will still belong to America. Sure the Anglos are going away as an ethnic group in America but that doesn’t have any bearing for the newcomers who looks at Canada and feel the exact same way. You’re a unincorporated territory of America.

Disagree. Strongly.

Aside from the gross lie implied in the thread title, what the hell makes you even think to imply Carney is or was opposed to Free Trade with the USA?

He's not the one f*cking it up as best her can. He's trying to negotiate continuation and not some 'acceptable' tariff on our exports.

I recently drove to Plattsburgh. No problem entering the US.

Return to Canada?

Free trade remains a good thing. Trade with America was good.

This is just the latest in a long tradition of nonsense threads.  The one thing that August does well here is he brings everyone together in one place to read his posts and wonder:

Wtf????

Doubtful the international community would allow the U.S. to annex Canada - it is far too strategic. Shudder to think the deal  the Canucks would need to make and with whom to avoid it.

I've often wondered why the U.S. didn't annex Mexico in toto at the conclusion of the Mexican-American War tho. That said, they did take a big bite.

Likely had a second chance when  Napoleon III landed on Mexican shores as well.

Manifest Destiny - missed opportunity.

The current border exits because of geography. America took the best land. The Mexican and Canadian got the worse land on the continent. This is the reason why they have a weak central government. Trade being a prerequisite for a stable united society.

good points - but they don't conform to the Manifest Destiny belief for N.A.

Re; "the rest of the World wouldn't allow  it"? I was referring to blowback of any Nation taking possession of such an increasingly strategic piece of real estate. European history is a good study on this type of thing. The global community would put extreme diplomatic / economic pressure on the U.S.  x2  if China does become the #1 Global economy (dread that). It wouldn't be worth the squeeze - esp since Canada is more than willing to support the U.S. (language, culture,  language, values)  - it IS after all an ally.

All that said, annexation would conform to the Manifest Destiny.

Strategically, Canada's strategic / economic value will only increase  this century - water, minerals, educated workforce, Tim Horton's, ENERGY- treasure trove, baby!

Not sure if we're actively trying to shit the pit right now, but those that think that way should  be forgiven.

Yes who would have thought a food made by North Americans for Americans would be popular in America…. More evidence of Canadian dissonance!

Western Europe has better neighbours. They have learned to truly respect each other. By contrast, the US is barely able to cope with a trade area of three countries.

Let me know when Canada starts behaving like a good neighbor. When your national pastime isn’t pretending to not being Americans then maybe we can have some serious conversation about trade and how to leverage Canadian resources for American businesses.

Well when you're used to eating sawdust, anti-freeze and fillers in everything it could be. One Couche-Tard could feed a family for a week. And no antibiotics, hormones or Red #2 either.
